Chapter Text
Jisoo stared at his own reflection in the mirror in disbelief.
Two white bunny ears were attached to the top of his head, and no, he wasn’t wearing a headband since the fluffy ears twitched and moved according to his will. As if that wasn’t enough, Jisoo turned around and slightly pulled his pants down, revealing a puffy white tail on his lower back, just slightly above his tailbone. For who knows how long, Jisoo kept going back and forth between the bunny ears and the bunny tails, staring incredulously at them with his mouth wide open.
They were real. This was really happening.
Jisoo grimaced, turning towards one of the empty potion bottles propped at the brewing table—the one he had been working hard on for the past few weeks, and the same one he drank barely five minutes ago. That potion failed him. The witch glared at the empty bottle as if this whole mishap was the potion’s fault and not his.
Letting out a groan, Jisoo scratched his head in frustration, but he stopped the moment his fingers grazed against the bunny ears, feeling them quite reactive to the touch. Oh, right, Jisoo shouldn’t be too rough to his newly attained bunny ears. He sunk to the ground, returning his gaze towards the mirrors, his mind light-headed from processing the situation and barely figuring out what to do next.
At times like this, Jisoo needed the counsel of his wizard roommate. And so, Jisoo found his phone and through his slightly trembling fingers, he managed to call Jihoon. Thankfully the other half of his coven picked up at the second ring.
"Jihoon, where are you?”
Jihoon was quick to notice his urgent tone. “Resource room. Is everything okay?”
"Emergency. I need you back here."
“What? Are you okay?”
Jisoo heard a loud clatter from the other side, the noise of Jihoon dropping everything and readying himself to go back, and he felt slightly bad for making this incident sound so urgent. He hastily clarified, "I'm fine—I mean, technically, I’m fine, but um… just come back home if you’re free. I really need you here, but it’s not that urgent.”
“Jisoo. You’re the one who told me it’s an emergency. What happened?”
“I’m saying—I’m just saying you don’t have rush. Anyway, you can see it for yourself.”
“Alright.” Jihoon’s tone was still in a hurry, unconvinced by Jisoo’s reassurance. “Stay put and stay calm. I’ll be there in a second.”
As he waited, Jisoo originally planned to tidy up the brewing table, but he ended up rereading the reference material and retracing the steps he did, trying to figure out where he did wrong. Soon the apartment’s door swung open, much faster than Jisoo expected, but he was taken aback to hear such a ruckus at the front door. Jihoon wasn’t alone and he had Jeonghan, Soonyoung, Seungkwan, and Seokmin tagging along, basically one third of their whole group—much to Jisoo’s horror.
Thankfully, Jisoo was wearing a hoodie, so he pulled the hood up to hide his ridiculous state.
Before Jisoo could say anything to him, Jihoon crossed the distance between them with such a stern expression on his face, patting down Jisoo’s body, spinning him around to make sure every limb was intact.
“You look okay. Tell me what’s wrong, quick,” Jihoon prompted with a single breath.
“I told you I’m fine, but what are they doing here?” Jisoo dragged Jihoon away and talked in hushed whisper, trying not to glance at a certain vampire gazing at him with his concerned eyes, but Jihoon remained unbudging.
“You look fine, the house looks fine,” Jihoon glanced at the messy brewing table. “Did you brew something wrong? What happened—oh."
In the process of thoroughly examining Jisoo once again, Jihoon pulled down the hoodie and two white bunny ears sprung up from Jisoo’s head, all exposed for the world to see.
“Oh.”
This time, the “oh” came from multiple people inside the room.
Jisoo wanted so badly to find a hole and hide.
Soonyoung gawked, pointing a finger at him. "Hyung… is that real?"
“Is that… bunny ears? Hyung? What happened?” Seungkwan was at his side in an instant, peering closely at the two twitching fluffy ears, rapidly fussing over him. Honestly, it was quite overwhelming for Jisoo’s sensitive ears.
Even worse, Seokmin was at his other side too, and he was doing the exact same crowding as Seungkwan. “They are real! Whoa—they’re moving!”
Jisoo groaned, stepping away from them and pulling the bunny ears down, both to hide them and muffle the noises. “Uh, so I… I messed up, basically.”
Jihoon blocked Seungkwan and Seokmin from approaching him, and as he snatched Jisoo’s hands away, the two bunny ears stood back to their original position. Jisoo could feel the whole room staring at him in wonder, but Jihoon furrowed his eyebrows together, his scrutinizing expression quite intimidating. “What potion did you drink? What are you even trying to do?”
Sheepishly, Jisoo responded. "I want to speak to bunnies."
"You want to what?"
"Speak to bunnies. As in understand and speak their language."
“What the fuck,” Jihoon blurted out.
Jisoo frowned, and even though he was used to Jihoon’s bluntness, this time it kind of stings. "I know what I'm doing, Hoonie."
Jihoon saw how Jisoo visibly drooped—but he was blown away by how those bunny ears literally droop too. He felt his heartstrings yanked and quickly fixed his words. “No, I know you’re good at what you’re doing. You’re a clever witch, Jisoo, but you have the most absurd idea sometimes and you clearly messed up. Tell me what happened in detail.”
So, Jisoo told him how he brewed a potion, and he didn’t know exactly where he messed up but the potion gave him a pair of bunny ears and tail instead of giving him the ability to speak to bunnies.
“Any other changes in your body? Are you feeling okay?” Jeonghan asked and Jisoo jolted in surprise, finally realizing how close Jeonghan was standing right now, his gaze scanning Jisoo up and down before settling on his bunny ears curiously.
“Umm aside from the ears and tail? I don’t think so,” Jisoo hummed, pouting as he thinks. “I’m mostly fine, but I think my hearing is a little bit sharper. I can pick up more sound and it’s a bit more sensitive. I think the same goes for my smelling too.”
“Are you in pain?” Jihoon was next to ask.
Jisoo reassured them with a smile. “Not at all. I’m a little confused with the new changes but trust me I’m not in pain at all.”
Jeonghan sighed in relief, patting the back of Jisoo’s head. “Okay, that’s good. Wait, did you say you have bunny tail too?”
While the rest persuaded Jisoo to show the bunny tail (mostly Jeonghan), Soonyoung disappeared into the kitchen and returned with a carrot in hand, interrupting the moment where Jihoon and Seokmin were holding Jisoo down, with Seungkwan halfway pulling Jisoo’s pants down to reveal his butt and the bunny tail. Jeonghan was just… watching, unsure whether he should help or stay back and enjoy the show. Soonyoung’s interruption made them pause.
“Jisoo-hyung, you want this?” Soonyoung asked, waving the carrot in his hand.
Jisoo reacted almost immediately, his bunny ears going upright and his gaze fixated on the carrot. The others let him go, intrigued as they watched Soonyoung wave the carrot once again, and as if he was entranced, Jisoo trotted towards him. Soonyoung held the carrot for him while Jisoo experimentally took a small bite, looking a tad confused at his own action, but then his eyes lit up, the way they usually did when he ate delicious food. The rest watched in both awe and confusion as Jisoo continued to munch on the carrot, taking tiny bites.
“He’s eating a raw carrot…” Seungkwan commented, seemingly quite speechless.
Jihoon folded his arms, grimacing at the endearing sight. “So, it’s not just the ears and tail, alright. Heightened hearing and smelling, and now he is obsessed with carrots. Definitely bunny characteristics.”
Soonyoung couldn’t care about anything else right now but feeding the bunny Jisoo, holding the carrot steady and reaching out to pat Jisoo’s head, to which the older didn’t seem to mind at all. “Hyung, you’re so cute!” He cooed with a bright grin.
Oh wow, Jeonghan wanted to take over Soonyoung’s place so badly.
“How are we going to fix this?” Jihoon really was the only one asking the most important question here.
“What?” Jisoo paused his snack time, looking at the younger witch.
Jihoon raised an eyebrow. “Don’t you want to fix this whole situation? Create an antidote or something?”
"No?” Jisoo tilted his head and one of his bunny ear flopped adorably, earning a coo from Seokmin. “I want to try speaking to bunnies first."
Jisoo admitted he was panicking before so he overlooked the fact that even though his potion had unexpected side-effects, he still didn’t know if the intended effect worked or not. In fact, the minor transformation might be a good sign that his potion really worked, and he should’ve gained the ability to speak to bunnies now. Yes, the little mishap confused him, but it didn’t deter his determination in communicating with bunnies at all.
“Hyung…” Jihoon went speechless, letting out the deepest sight ever and pinching the bridge of a nose. He couldn’t be completely mad with Jisoo since he could relate to the feeling of wanting to do anything to finish a project. Such were the nature of witches and wizards, after all.
“Yes, I know I did something wrong somewhere, but other than this,” Jisoo gestured to his fluffy ears and tails, “there’s nothing wrong with me. I’m completely fine. Don’t you think it’s a waste to turn back without testing if the potion did work or not? I’m going to try and talk to bunnies first. Plus, the effect will wear off naturally in a week or so. No harm done at all!”
Jeonghan chuckled fondly, giving a smile to Jisoo that caused the butterflies to flutter in his stomach. “Well, I agree it’s a waste to fix this immediately. You look so cute, Jisoo.” The vampire turned to the group, more specifically to Jihoon. “I know you’re worried about the side-effect and withdrawal after this, but what’s the worst trait a bunny could have? I think he’s going to be fine, as long as Jisoo is not lying to us about his condition.”
“I’m not,” Jisoo assured, hopping in place as if to show them. “I feel a little energetic and that’s it.”
“And you can always hide your ears with a hoodie just like before, or with a beanie. I think you’re good too,” Seungkwan added, helping Jisoo tuck the bunny ears under the hood and showing it to Jihoon.
Why was everyone going against Jihoon?
“I’m just worried, okay. But alright,” Jihoon relented with a hint of stubbornness on his voice, crossing his arms again as if to make a stance. “Promise me you have to be honest, okay? If you start feeling weird, tell me and we’ll create the antidote together.”
Jisoo broke into a cheery smile, running over to Jihoon and giving him a hug. “Okay! Thank you, Hoonie.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be watching after him too,” Jeonghan said with a grin, stroking Jisoo’s cheek tenderly with the back of his hand, giving such a sweet gaze and making him blush.
Even though Jisoo did try to control his expression, his bunny ears gave an honest reaction, twitching excitedly at Jeonghan’s words.
The room cooed at him which flustered Jisoo more.
“You’re really, really cute, Jisoo-hyung.” Seungkwan reached out to touch one of the bunny ears, but Jisoo slightly flinched, squeezing his shoulders together.
“Wait—be gentle, Kwannie.”
“Oh! I’m sorry.” Seungkwan quickly corrected himself, his fingers gently grazing the soft fur, and only after Jisoo melted into his touch that Seungkwan started stroking the back of the ear. “Can you feel them? How does it feel?”
“Yes, I can feel them, and um… it’s a little ticklish…”
Jeonghan and Jihoon watched as the trio took turns in touching Jisoo’s bunny ears, both sporting the same disapproving gaze. The vampire glanced at the younger witch, knowing well that Jihoon was definitely holding back and acting as if he didn’t care, but the truth is later when it was only the two of them in the apartment, Jihoon would definitely ask to touch Jisoo’s bunny ears.
What about Jeonghan?
Well, Jeonghan would make sure to have his own private time after this.
Jeonghan noticed their friends had been hogging Jisoo too much for the past two days.
If they are out from public sight, they would find any reason for Jisoo to take his beanie or hoodie off, revealing his white fluffy ears. Of course, it’s not every day that bunny ears pop out of your friend’s head, so they must indulge in the moment as much as possible. Everyone tried to sneak in a touch or two, and whenever the bunny ears moved, their eyes were drawn to it as if bewitched.
Jeonghan couldn’t blame them. Jisoo was so, so adorable.
They were literally taking turns spoiling Jisoo. Seungcheol kept buying Jisoo sweets especially carrot cakes, and even though Jisoo was originally a sweet tooth and loved carrot cakes before this, the transformation brought his love for carrots to another level. Soonyoung even fed him those baby carrots from the mart and Jisoo happily munched on them the entire day.
On another occasion, Jeonghan caught the moment of Jisoo napping on Minghao’s lap, while the latter played with his bunny ears, both basking under the warm sun and looking so cozy that Jeonghan almost felt bad for interrupting them. When a light rain happened yesterday, both Mingyu and Seungkwan fussed after Jisoo, telling the witch that water isn’t good for a bunny’s health.
So much pampering and Jeonghan was always a step late. Today though, he had Jisoo all to himself.
To continue Jisoo’s project of communicating with bunnies, Jeonghan accompanied him to a bunny rescue today. A cousin of Wonwoo worked in the said rescue, so they were able to contact the place and asked for a special arrangement. Jisoo specifically requested a private playroom because he needed to expose his bunny ears, and thankfully, Wonwoo had told her the gist of the story first so she wouldn’t be confused.
Jisoo was literally bouncing on his feet the entire time since they met up this morning, and he was even giddier as they were led into a room with three bunnies waiting inside.
“They’re so cute!” Jisoo instinctively cooed the moment they stepped in.
Three bunnies were gathered around the pen, two of them busy chasing each other and the last one focused on munching on the stack of hay, and they all stopped to look up at the arrival of two strangers.
The rescue staff, who is also Wonwoo’s cousin, explained to Jeonghan and Jisoo how to hold the bunnies properly and how to play with them. She also introduced them to Kkuma the gray bunny, Ddol the light brown bunny, and Coco the white bunny with chocolate spots. Each one of them had a pair of round curious eyes and cute snout, and they reminded Jeonghan of Jisoo very much.
“Well then, I’ll leave you to it. Enjoy playing with the bunnies!” Eunsoo said cheerfully and she left the room with a wave.
Jisoo carefully entered the pen, sitting on the floor and lowering himself, trying to look as small and not intimidating as possible. The bunnies stared back at him cautiously, watching his every move, and so Jisoo slowly pulled down the hoodie to reveal his own bunny ears. Jeonghan watched in amusement as the bunnies perked up, instantly taking interest in Jisoo and approaching him, four pairs of bunny ears reacting to each other’s presence.
The sight was so adorable that Jeonghan held his breath, avoiding any interruption that might ruin the moment.
Opening his palm, Jisoo waited for the nearest bunny, the gray bunny Kkuma, to come and sniff his fingers first. Once Kkuma stayed, proving that it was safe, only then the other two bunnies approached him as well.
“Oh wow, they are so cute,” Jisoo whispered under his breath, watching as the bunnies wandered around him with their little hops.
He picked a stalk of hay and waved it around to play with Coco, seemingly the most energetic and friendly bunny out of the bunch. While Coco chased after the hay enthusiastically, Ddol was constantly hovering around the white and brown bunny as if asking for attention. Coco might be distracted by the toys, but he did remember to groom his needy bunny friend between his playing session.
Seeing the bunnies groom each other was cute and Jisoo wanted to join in, so he sank to the floor, pressing his chest to the carpet and leveling his gaze with the bunnies. The trio jumped to crowd around Jisoo’s face, grooming him with their little tongues, making Jisoo giggle from the thorough loving.
“Hannie, they’re so cute!”
Jeonghan watched the endearing sight unfold from the sidelines, sitting cross-legged from a distance away, busy taking photos and videos of the cute exchange between the four bunnies. After a while, he chuckled and asked Jisoo. “Did you forget what we came here for?”
“Nope, of course not.” Jisoo returned to his sitting position, much to the three bunnies’ disappointment. “I think it works. It’s not that I can communicate with them using words, but I feel like I understand their emotions vaguely. I managed to convey that I meant no harm, that I wanted to be friends with them, and look, they have accepted me.”
Jisoo reached out to pat each of the bunnies and they didn’t flinch or draw away at all, simply accepting Jisoo’s gentle strokes happily.
Jeonghan was intrigued. “So, you understand what they’re thinking right now?”
“Yep! Kkuma is mostly asking me to play with him, like he really wants a lot of attention. Coco is very sweet and gentle, but he’s starting to show more of his energetic side. Ddol is the most careful out of the trio, he seems kind of distant and cautious, but he actually cares a lot about his two friends.”
Jisoo pointed out at how Ddol stopped sometimes to just stare in the general direction Jeonghan. “He’s starting to let his guard down around me, but he’s wary about you. Look at him, he’s occasionally glaring at you, right? He’s giving you a warning.”
“Me? What a cheeky bunny.” Jeonghan raised an eyebrow, wondering if he even did anything wrong to that little critter.
Jisoo giggled at the childish tension between the brown bunny and the vampire. “It’s because you don’t look friendly enough, Hannie. Come here and let’s play with them. Also lower yourself and let them approach you first. Don’t scare them away.”
“I’m pretty sure Ddol is going to bite me.”
“Noo, there’s no way.”
Jisoo’s bright smile convinced Jeonghan, so the vampire placed his hand down and it was Coco who approached him without hesitation. It took one sniff for the bunny to warmed up to Jeonghan, instantly snugging to his fingers in content.
Oh wow, Jeonghan felt his heart stolen by a real bunny this time.
“Ohh, he likes you!” Jisoo looked excited too, his own bunny ears twitching adorably and Jeonghan resisted the urge to coo.
Jeonghan barely stroke Coco’s fur a few times before Ddol jumped in, interrupting them. The brown bunny stood between Coco and Jeonghan, looking quite disgruntled and baring his fangs.
“Let me, guess, he didn’t like me touching Coco?” Jeonghan guessed in a flat tone, exchanging glares with the said bunny.
“You’re right! how did you figure that out?”
“It’s not that hard to see through this guy.”
“Apparently Kkuma and Ddol is pretty protective of Coco. Since I’m somewhat of a half-bunny right now, I guess they’re more open to me, but they’re still very wary when it comes to you.” With a small laugh, Jisoo added, the playfulness clear in his tone. “Well, I’m not surprised since you’re not that friendly. A grumpy vampire.”
Jeonghan scoffed, reaching out to pinch Jisoo’s cheek. “And then we have Coco, who is very defenseless and reminding me of a certain someone.” He grinned towards Jisoo and was pleased to see that adorable blush return.
“Hey!”
Whenever Ddol was distracted, Jeonghan would sneak in to touch Coco, and once the brown bunny realized what had happened, he immediately lunged at Jeonghan and thumped his tiny feet around in anger. The two went back and forth antagonizing each other (of course, not too much or else he would make the bunny really upset), which turned into entertainment for Jisoo and the rest of the bunnies.
Using the toys, Jisoo played fetch and tug with them, and at one point he used a blanket to play peek-a-boo, covering and uncovering the bunnies with the thin fabric. They were enthusiastic to play with him, hopping around cheerfully and even doing little zoomies. Jisoo took every opportunity to stroke their soft fur and thankfully the bunnies always welcomed his warm touch.
When Coco suddenly climbed into his lap, Jisoo braved himself to scoop the bunny into his arms, making sure his position was safe and secure.
“Hi Coco,” Jisoo whispered fondly, lowering his head to nuzzle at the bunny. Coco leaned up to groom his nose, even daring to climb higher towards Jisoo’s shoulder, causing him to giggle at the ticklish sensation. “Wait, wait, Coco, it’s dangerous so stay, okay?” Jisoo secured Coco back to his chest, and he turned to Jeonghan with a cheeky bright grin. “Here, Hannie, you can now pet Coco to your heart’s content without Ddol’s interruption.”
Jisoo knew he had somewhat betrayed Ddol by offering Coco to Jeonghan. The brown bunny would definitely sulk at him later.
Jeonghan scooted closer and reached his hand out, ignoring the way Ddol was nudging at his legs, but instead of patting Coco, his palm landed on top of Jisoo’s head. He ruffled Jisoo’s silky black hair before stroking the back of his white bunny ears, the two were contrasting in color but equally soft to the touch.
It took a second for Jisoo to process his action, his cheeks burning from Jeonghan’s ridiculously smooth move. “Why are you petting me?”
“Why not?” Jeonghan flashed him a playful grin, his gaze sweet and dripping with honey. “You’re the cutest bunny here.”
Jisoo was held captive by Jeonghan’s gaze, his heartbeat quickening and growing noisier, and he held his breath when Jeonghan leaned even closer. It was clear how flustered and conscious Jisoo was thanks to his actions, bringing satisfaction to Jeonghan. He glanced at Jisoo’s lips, as if giving a signal, before planting a soft kiss there, pressing their lips together in a short peck.
Jeonghan couldn’t resist the smile coming to his lips at Jisoo’s startled expression, blinking and blushing so endearingly at him. He was about to lean in for another kiss, and this time Jisoo was tilting his head to welcome him, but something hard hit him on the stomach, slamming him right in the gut.
“What the—,” Jeonghan groaned, shocked to find Ddol hopping from his lap, the brown bunny had such a smug look on his face and Jeonghan wasn’t sure if he was imagining it or if a bunny could really taunt him like that. It was as if he could read the bunny’s emotion too, because Ddol looked proud that he managed to stop Jeonghan’s advances. “Did he just headbutted me on my stomach?”
Jisoo burst out laughing, settling Coco down to the ground so the bunnies could snuggle together again.
Jeonghan knew it was ridiculous to feel annoyed, but he couldn’t help it. “Tell me what that guy is saying right now.”
“He didn’t like you touching Coco or Kkuma, or me,” Jisoo told him sheepishly.
“What? So, he’s claiming you as his as too?” Jeonghan was baffled that he got literally cock-blocked by a bunny.
“Basically.”
Jisoo was about to laugh again and tease Jeonghan for feeling jealous of a bunny, but Jeonghan moved even faster. He held the back of Jisoo’s neck, bringing their faces together into another kiss, and it happened so fast that it caught Jisoo completely off-guard. Jeonghan was purposely making a show in front of the bunnies, keeping Jisoo in place and their lips locked for an embarrassingly long time, even to the point of using his tongue.
When he was finally satisfied, Jeonghan pulled away, hugging Jisoo tight in his hold and sticking his tongue out at Ddol. “Sorry, he’s mine.”
The reaction was instantaneous. Ddol started headbutting and clawing at Jeonghan, but they barely did any damage to the vampire. Coco and Kkuma intervened by grooming Ddol from both sides, trying to distract and calm him down, and it somewhat worked. With that settled, Jeonghan turned back to Jisoo to find him sporting an adorable pouty look.
“What is it, Jisoo? You’re really red.”
“You idiot,” Jisoo slapped his shoulder, trying to push the vampire away, but of course Jeonghan refused to budge.
“Why are you so embarrassed? They’re just bunnies.”
“I can understand what they’re thinking, you know? And they’re saying—they’re saying…” Jisoo faltered, realizing that the words he was about to say was rather suggestive, so he flushed deep red and pursed his lips tightly instead.
“What did they say?” Jeonghan was really curious now.
“Nothing.”
Jeonghan chuckled at how Jisoo wasn’t fooling anyone. “Tell me, or should I guess? Did they say we’re a couple? Or that we’re mates? Or is Ddol disappointed that I just claimed you?”
Jisoo’s eyes widened at that, his bunny ears standing upright, so it must be something along that line. Jisoo was normally already so cute, but now the bunny ears made him ten times even cuter and this was clearly bad for Jeonghan’s heart. It’s not his fault that he couldn’t resist touching and kissing Jisoo the entire time.
“You’re cute,” Jeonghan said it for the umpteenth time that day, claiming Jisoo’s lips again.
The kiss was heated and dizzying, more so than normal for Jisoo.
Jisoo tried to melt into the kiss, drowning himself in Jeonghan’s scent and presence, but he couldn’t ignore his erratic heartbeat and the growing heat inside of him. His body felt hot, much hotter than before, and there was a tingling sensation inside his stomach. Perhaps, this too, was a side-effect of the potion, or maybe Jeonghan was the reason he was feeling so much right now.
The two were getting carried away and Jeonghan almost pushed Jisoo down to the floor, until he felt a biting pain on his ankle.
