Nothing On You

Summary:

Simply put, Danny Gonzalez was in hell.

Work Text:

Simply put, Danny Gonzalez was in hell. He was sat with Eddy, Jarvis and Kurtis in a bar located in downtown LA. They were there winding down from a weekend at VidCon.

That wasn’t why he was in hell though, although if he was forced to hear Eddy go on a tangent about a new feature in Kingdom Hearts, he may lose his mind.

But no. Danny was in hell because he was sitting straight across from the bar and was being forced to watch as his best friend and secret crush of seven years, Drew Gooden, was flirting with another guy.

The guy was about Danny’s height, but far more trim. His arms looked strong and his jaw looked so chiseled he could break stone with it.

Danny sighed and took another sip of his beer. He watched as Mr. Chisel Jaw leaned in closer to Drew, probably to whisper some cheesy line. He was suddenly assaulted with a fantasy of grabbing Drew and kissing him long and hard.  Finding out what else Drew tastes like besides peppermint toothpaste. Pressing him back against the bar and letting him feel just how hard he was.  His hand would slip down the front of Drew’s jeans and he’d stroke him ever so gently through them. He’d pull back breathless, smirk at the man still sat on the bar stool and walk back to the table.

“Danny.” Kurtis’s voice broke through his fantasy. “Are you even listening?”

“Nah.” Eddy said. “He’s too busy pining over Drew.”

“Wh-?” Danny turned to Eddy, a dramatically offended look on his face, “No, I’m not.”

“Really?” Eddy challenged. “Because I was about to ask the waiter for a bib the way you were drooling. Also your face is really red dude.”

“I really have no clue what you’re talking about Burback.” Danny countered, taking another sip of his beer, and then nearly choking on it when Drew looked over at him while the guy had his back turned, and winked at him.

“Yeah, totally not pining.” Kurtis chuckled.

“Come on guys, leave him alone.” Jarvis said. “We all know how hard it is to be in love with someone we can’t have.”

“You guys, I’m not in love-“ Danny stopped talking as Drew made his way over to them.

“Hey.” He smiled as he sat down. “What’re we talking about?”

“Uh, nothing.” Danny said, hoping his voice sounded normal.

“Who was the guy?” Kurtis asked.

“His name is Ben. He’s a doctor.” Drew said.

“You two seemed to really be hitting it off.” Jarvis mused. “Did you get his number?”

“Actually I did.” Drew grinned.

Danny nearly choked on his beer again.

“You ok over there Danny?” Drew asked.

“Uh yeah, yeah. Just happy for you man.” Danny stuttered. Desperately trying to hide his jealous rage.

As Drew and Eddy began discussing a new video game Eddy had started playing, Danny sat  silently fuming. He knew he needed to tell Drew how he felt. Every time Drew met someone knew it was like a knife to the heart.

“I’m gonna grab the next round.” Danny said, standing up and walking to the bar.

As he waited for the drinks, Drew walked up beside him.

“Are you sure you’re ok? You’re not usually this quiet.” Drew questioned.

“I’m fine.” Danny said firmly, his hands gripping the bar.

He could feel Drew’s eyes on him. “You know, Ben is one of the best Orthopaedic surgeons in the country? He’s only 27.” He said.

“That’s great Drew, really.” Danny turned to look at him, “I’m happy for you.”

“Thanks.” Drew grinned. “He’s incredibly handsome too. Jet black hair, a killer smile, slim build. Funny.”

Danny’s hands tightened on the bar. Suddenly, he felt two hands on his hips and lips right by his ear. Drew’s hot breath against the shell of it was like gasoline on an open flame. “He’s pretty amazing. It’s just to bad he’s got nothing on you.” Drew’s hands squeezed his hips and before Danny could respond, he was gone.

Danny could hear his heartbeat in his ears. He could still feel Drew’s hot breath on his skin and his firm grip on his hips. He exhaled a shaky breath as he took the drinks to the table.

When he sat back down, Kurtis was grinning at him.

“What?” Danny asked.

“Oh nothing.” Kurtis smiled, taking a sip of his drink.

They spent another hour at the bar, with Danny catching Drew side eyeing him more than once. He could feel barely contained excitement and nervousness coursing through him.

They spent another hour at the bar,  before Drew and Danny made their way back to their AirBnB.

Before they left the bar, Drew turned to Eddy.

“Ben said he can see you on Monday, about that rash.” Drew said, handing the business card to Eddy.

Danny’s jaw nearly fell to the floor.  Had Drew not been flirting with the guy after all? He felt heart squeeze as emotions flooded his body.

Once he and Drew made it back to their AirBnB, Danny grabbed two LemonCellio la croixs out of the fridge. Drew sat at the island watching him.

“What?” Danny asked, handing him a can.

“Nothing. Nothing.” Drew said, looking down at his can before looking back up at Danny. “I’m just wondering if we’re going to talk about this or if we’re gonna keep tip toeing around each other. Because I gotta tell you Danny, it’s getting kinda tiring.”

“Drew, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Danny said, so use to playing dumb that it seemed to be part of his persona now. A perfectly manicured mask so tightly secured on his face that it had consumed him whole.

“Really?” Drew asked. “You’re gonna play it that way? Ok.” He took a sip of his la croix before standing up and walking next to Danny. “Look me in the eye and tell me you weren’t jealous tonight?”

Danny looked down before meeting his steely blue gaze. The thing about poker faces is, they work the best when no one is looking at them dead in the eye. “I wasn’t jealous Drew.”

“Really?” Drew asked, stepping behind him, his voice now close to his ear. “So, when you saw Ben and I talking, you weren’t plotting your revenge on him?”

“N-No.” Danny stuttered, finding it very hard to think with Drew so close.

“Hmm.” Drew said.  “So, when I told you he had nothing on you. Your breath didn’t hitch?” His hands braced Danny’s hips, just like they had at the bar.

“Drew.” Danny whispered. “What are you doing?”

“Trying to get you to admit what I already know.” Drew smirked.

“What?” Danny asked, his breathing picking up.

“That you’re completely, head over heels in love with me.” Drew smiled.

Danny turned to look at him. “How do you know?”

“So, don’t be mad at Kurtis.” Drew started. “But, he kind of let it slip the last night of vidcon.”

“Wait, so you knew all night?” Danny stammered. “Why didn’t you say anything? Unless, you don’t feel the same?”

Drew turned Danny around fully so his back was against the granite. He rested his hands on his hips. “First of all, there’s no world in which I wouldn’t feel the same.” He squeezed Danny’s hips. “And second, getting to see you jealous was a huge turn on for me.”

Danny let out a laugh, hardly believing what he was hearing. “How long?”

“Since we first met.” Drew smiled.

Danny wrapped his arms around Drew’s neck. “I just, I can’t believe all this time.” He cupped Drew’s jaw.

“Why don’t we not waste any more of it?” Drew smiled, leaning in and kissing Danny deeply.

Danny moaned as he pulled Drew closer. Savouring the taste of his lips. As he allowed Drew to pull him down the hall and into the bedroom, he felt the missing piece in his heart fall into place.
