For as long as he could remember, Rodolfo had been with Alejandro at his side.
Since they were kids, into teens, and now their adult lives, following Alejandro into the military.
If you were to ask him why, he'd respond with a lie, that he knew well. They were good friends who stuck together. Maybe saying it would help him believe that was the reason. Though he knew deep down no matter how much he said it, it would never be true.
Maybe that was the truth at one time. Rodolfo remembers the day it became a lie.
They were teenagers about 15, Alejandro had begged him to meet him outside of town at a creek.
Reluctantly he agreed, because he knew his father was going to be upset, but for it was for Alejandro so he was ready to face the consequences. He went to the creek, and saw Alejandro waiting.
"Rudy!" Alejandro jogged over to him.
"Yes? " He answered his close friend.
"Rudy I know what I want to do. " Alejandro smiled at him.
"What's that Ale? " Rudy smiled back.
"I want to join the military, but I want you to go with me. " Alejandro said rubbing the back of his head glancing to the side.
Rudy felt something internally, it made him feel special to think Alejandro wanted him to do this. Rodolfo didn't think twice before responding.
"Of course, Alejandro, if you want me to."
Rodolfo said feeling his face heat up as he avoided Alejandro's gaze. He didn't know why he felt so happy about this, or why his face heated up.
"Thanks Rudy I'm so glad that you agreed I couldn't do this with out you and Valeria. "
Rodolfo felt his heart sink a little, of course Alejandro asked his girlfriend too. Technically Valeria was supposed to be his friend, but she wasn't all that nice to him when Alejandro wasn't around.
"Your welcome, I've got to go Alejandro. " Rudy quickly ran home without letting Alejandro respond. He knew if he stayed any longer Alejandro would have seen the tears in his eyes.
Although when he got home, what waiting for him there wasn't much better. His father was very angry at him for leaving, and he saw him crying.
His father yelled at him saying "real men don't cry" and things of that nature. He received one of the worst beatings of his life that day.
Rodolfo shook his head standing up from his chair in the barracks.
The things he did for Alejandro even though he knew he wouldn't love him back, he was a fool. Rodolfo excepted he'd always come second even if he was the only option. At least he could love him as a friend, and watch over Alejandro from his side.
He sighed, and put his sad thoughts a side. They went to go to capture El sin nombre today, he had already prepared a storage container for when Alejandro, Ghost, Soap, and Graves got back.
It had been a couple hours, so they should be back soon if everything went according to plan of course.
He walked out of the barracks to the area they'd meet him at, and waited.
It felt like a matter of minutes before he saw the SUV's pull up; he opened the door to the storage container.
When he looked back up, he felt like throwing up when he saw Valeria with a confident smirk.
When she noticed him, she scoffed at him.
Rodolfo just wanted this to be a bad dream, but he knew it wasn't. He shut the doors to the container when everyone was inside.
They started interrogating her, and he knew Alejandro was freaking out. Rodolfo didn't blame him though, if it were his ex whom he loved so dear left him just like that, he'd react the same way.
He was quiet as Graves and Alejandro spoke. He watched as his Colonel's temper got the best of him.
"THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING FUCK!! "
He watched as Alejandro furiously walked off.
He looked at Soap, Ghost, and Graves apologeticly before turning to leave to find his commander.
Right as he turned, Valeria spoke.
"Still chasing after him? It's a waste Rudy, I think we both know that. "
Her words were like venom, but they were the truth. He ignored her, and went to find Alejandro as she laughed at him.
He found Alejandro pacing back and forth near the edge of their base.
Rudy stood there for a second before speaking.
"Are you ok? " His voice was soft and quite.
"No but I will be. " Alejandro stopped pacing and faced him.
I don't know what to do Rudy. " Alejandro's voice was softer than before.
"You'll help the 141 and Graves first, and then bring her to justice." Rodolfo said with reassurance in his voice.
"I know that Rudy but I... " Alejandro looked broken, his words soft.
Rudy knew what his best friend was going to say. "I know you still love her Alejandro. "
Although it pained him but it was the truth and he's excepted that.
Alejandro had let two tears fall from his eyes, and Rudy wiped them away as he always did.
"Your gonna be ok, Ale. It'll take time but you'll be ok. " Rudy let his hands fall from Alejandro's face.
"What would I do with out you. " Alejandro's words made Rodolfo's heart swell in happiness and pain.
"Let's get back to the others and deal with this shit. " Rudy said walking back, Alejandro following.
Rodolfo saw Soap and Ghost, and walked over.
"So what did Graves do? " Rudy asked them.
"He made a deal with Valeria to get the missile information. " Ghost replied.
Rodolfo nodded, and Alejandro replied.
"Let's just hope it doesn't bite us in the ass."
"Yeah." Ghost nodded.
