Chapter 1: Setting Up A Revival

Chapter Text

The midday sun had reached its peak and was slowly descending from the sky. The gathering grey clouds indicated rain would fall in the evening. The breeze was mild as it ruffled flowers, clotheslines and peoples’ hair.

Among all of this, a young girl walked with purpose. Her head was held high and determination to prove herself burned in her eyes. Midori Nishimura was the daughter of a yakuza boss, but not anymore. She was willing to do anything to get that power – dirty or not.

She walked down the street, past various people who saw her with her head high. Some glanced at her cautiously, some stared brazenly and shouted at her. Midori simply stared back and rolled her eyes. Her tight grey skirt and blazer clashed against her floral top's delicate purple and white. Around her waist was a gold chain belt. A necklace was around her neck, the pendant on it glistening in the fading light.

“Mind your own business.” She snapped back. Midori didn’t care what other people thought of her, didn’t care about the stares she got. She wanted power and didn’t care who she hurt along the way. The teen didn’t have any tattoos yet, because her uncle was non-yakuza, but she was looking into making connections to get her first tattoo.

On the way to the park she was heading to, she saw signs that something wasn’t right. Bushes were decimated a bit, bystanders were milling about almost in confusion she noticed and there was a crowd in the distance using raised voices.

What’s going on? She wondered, stopping once she arrived at the park. There was a blue canine-like Digimon with white fur on its chest standing over a male teen. What the hell’s happening here?

“Get away from him!” Midori raised her voice at the Digimon, insisting he move away from the teenager.

She’d heard of the Tamers who had fought Chaosdramon, so she knew a little bit about Digimon. Not a whole lot, but enough to recognize a few species and had basic knowledge of the different attributes. Midori didn’t know why the Digimon was here, but she would find that out. And quickly. She observed him pull away from the other teenager and size her up as the bipedal canine strutted over to her.

Who are you to tell me what to do? ’ His smirk said everything.

The only reason she knew a little about Digimon and the Digital World was because she’d had a chance encounter with Tsurugi and the others not that long ago. They hadn’t revealed much since she had been unaware of the existence of the Digital World until that point in time, but it was enough for her at that point. Midori had learned crucial information and she now kept a tight grasp on that knowledge.

She stood opposing the Digimon and they circled each other a few times, trying to look for weaknesses. They stopped momentarily and the silence dragged on.

Gaomon sized up his opponent. The female didn’t show any weakness from what he could tell. She had a tough exterior that he recognized very well from his younger days. And her stance was perfect, to the point of not giving him the opportunity to strike. He smirked. She would have been a fine soldier against the Holy Beasts’ Chosen… or maybe she could still be.

Gaomon raised his gloved hand and taunted the human. “You are foolish to think you can take me on, weak human.” As suspected, the human bristled at the insult, causing her to make the strike.

“Why you…?!” Her eyes blazed with that of a vengeful warrior, seeking retribution. Their fists collided and a strange feeling came over him. He could feel a set of emotions that were not his own as well as briefly see a vision. He looked at the girl as he caught her other fist.

Anger. Rage. Betrayal. Determination.

Those were the emotions he felt overshadowing the others’ to the point of being nonexistent. And the glimpse of the vision he saw… Hmmm. I can work with this .

He lifted up his leg, stopping her kick before he threw her back. The girl merely stumbled a little but was back up before he could throw another punch. Within minutes, the two of them were back to throwing punches at each other, with neither one backing down. Punch after punch, they went at each other until the sun began to set behind the trees.

The girl pulled back her fist. Mentally and physically exhausted, she finally gave him an opening he had been waiting for.

“Double Backhand!” Gaomon spun around so fast that to the human he would have looked like a tornado. Her eyes widened, not expecting the array of punches coming at her at a speed she could not even match in her current state.

The girl’s cry of surprise was all he could hear as she collided against the tree behind him. The tree cracked under her weight but did not break. The girl trembled slightly as she fell to her knees. Her eyes blazed with that same defiant passion as before. He frowned as he thought back to the vision he saw after their fists collided.

Midori stared at the people that had raised her. She refrained from showing a single emotion as they confirmed that she was indeed adopted.

“We are sorry, darling. We weren’t sure how to tell you.” Her mother said, her eyes misting with tears. “It is true that we are not your birth parents, but we love you as our own daughter.”

Her father nodded with a small, sad frown, knowing he would tell her what she wanted to know without prompting. “Your mother is currently in jail from what we were told when we adopted you and your father is the boss of the yakuza.”

Midori didn’t say anything as she recalled the short conversation she had with the yakuza boss the day prior.

_________

“Why are you here?” The female’s voice snapped him out of the vision he had been reminiscing on. He shook his head, not wanting it to distract him as the female human slowly got to her feet. The girl had that blazing look again. She would do anything to accomplish her goals. Consequences meant nothing to her, meant nothing to either of them.

He tilted his head, feigning innocence. “What do you mean? I have always been here.” He said, trying to see how far he could push her. “As far as I can remember, anyway.”

She scoffed at him. “Don’t play coy.” Her tone was cold and held a certain authority that was most appealing. “You know very well why you are here, Digimon. You can’t fool me. Maybe those children that call themselves the Tamers, but not me.”

Gaomon noticed right away the way she addressed the Holy Beasts’ warriors came out with a hiss of annoyance. Hmmm, how interesting? Something we have in common .

“Very well, girl.” He said. “The name’s Gaomon. I was once a powerful ruler in the Digital World that had been opposing the Holy Beasts for eons. Unfortunately, the Holy Beasts had managed to summon mere children to my world, the Digital World, and gave them special partners who were able to defeat me.” He sneered. “They defeated me and I was almost destroyed.” He quickly slammed his two boxing gloves together until it made a beating sound. “I was lucky to reconfigure into one of my lower forms without them knowing.”

The thin, fourteen-year-old girl was silent for only a brief moment as she put two and two together. A stubborn strand of white positioned itself in front of those expressive bright red eyes. “You’re that fearsome Chaosdramon those children were whispering about.” Her long white hair flowed down her back as she straightened to her full height. “Well, it is certainly an honour.”

“The honour’s all mine.” He said, offering his gloved hand. “And what are you called?” Gaomon asked of his future ally.

“The name’s Midori Nishimura.” Her soft cream hand took his offered glove in a firm handshake. “I am the daughter of Sakaki Fukunaga, Lord Gaomon. He’s the boss of the yakuza gang here in Japan. I never thought I would meet someone as powerful as you. I heard quite a few things about you from those Tamer kids.”

Gaomon was rather pleased with her response. The girl wasn’t one of those goodie goodies and wouldn’t follow the path of light, no matter what those children say to her. He needed her on his side. “Oh, what were they?” While he didn’t care what those brats said about him, he was curious about the wonderful stories those children managed to tell his new ally.

“Oh, yes.” The girl said with an amused chuckle. “Destroying villages, only to enslave the women and children, killing off the men and the strong, tearing down the other kingdoms and empires and reducing the strong to only a shell of themselves… I must say it is most impressive.”

Gaomon nodded, with a grin on his features. He approved of this child already. She would do wonderfully in his master plan. She was everything he could ever want in a human partner. Midori was the perfect blend of chaotic evil.

But he was going to have to be honest with himself. Being beaten as thoroughly as what he had been by Tsurugi and the other Tamers had left him severely weakened, to the point he had devolved from his Ultimate stage. Entirely unwillingly.

“Enough about me though.” Gaomon brought himself back to the present and stared directly at Midori. “You’ve mentioned those Tamers a couple of times. How did you encounter them?”

Midori turned her gaze to Gaomon and thought back. It had been the end of a school day and she was walking home after buying an icecream. She’d seen a small group of children playing with their digital devices, called V Pets or something. Midori walked over to them and introduced herself, inquiring about the story they’d been discussing.

She had noticed the look they shared but thought nothing of it. When they told her they’d beaten a whole range of evil Digimon, the leader being Chaosdramon, she was amazed by the information. Midori had filed away the tidbits in her memory for use at a later date. She then thanked the group and made her way home after leaving them.

She brought herself back to the present and remembered Gaomon’s question. “Oh yes. I met them not that long ago actually. They seemed pretty proud of how they beat your army. As if they’d done it with ease…” Midori glanced to Gaomon to see if he would dispute the claim.

Gaomon was angry for a second, a look of fury crossing his face. “Pah! As if they could beat the forces I had easily. What nerve!” He shook his head vehemently from side to side. Then he remembered he was in the presence of someone who hadn’t seen his full strength and he went silent.

“So what now?” Midori questioned Gaomon as she offered her hand. Gaomon first looked at her, before staring at her hand. He shrugged, as if trying to overlook his outburst, before taking her hand within his gloved one.

The pair shook hands. It was done.

They talked in length in regards to what they both wanted from each other and shared a laugh together, before they strolled back to where Midori lived. Gaomon agreed to hide in Midori’s wardrobe and not make very much sound. He didn’t want his partner’s adoptive parents finding out he was in their house.

Their time together was going to be very fun indeed. He had a great many plans to think of, along with strategies. Gaomon was going to be very busy for a while, but he was really going to enjoy testing his wits against the new Tamers.
