Work Text:
Bleeding out being held close by his husband fading in and out of conciseness he manages a lopsided smile and says:
“I love you,”
It’s not a revelation, he’s said it hundreds of times before, Flop already knows he’s loved.
But this is different, the three words hold a heavier meaning in this moment as blood paints the sidewalk beneath them crimson.
“No, stop,” Flop begs, voice shaking just as much as his hands do as he tries to hold pressure on his husbands wounds.
The paramedics aren’t getting here quick enough.
“Don’t do that, your going to be okay,” he’s lying, he used to be a paramedic and he knows Ziggy would need a miracle to survive this. And it seems like Flop isn’t the only one that sees right past his lies.
“I love you so much,” Ziggy murmurs, a slurred mess of a sentence.
“No you don’t,” Flop hisses, sirens of another officer arriving on scene ring near, “becuase if you did you’d fight this, you’d not give up,” Flop argues but Ziggy's not really aware of his surroundings anymore. He looks so close to death Flop starts to get nauseas, tears blurring his vision.
He shouldn’t argue right now, he should say it back. Make sure Ziggy knows he’s loved.
“I love you, please,” Flop begs, although fitting, there last conversation can’t be an argument.
Ziggy falls unconscious right after he says it, as if he was waiting for it. Flop tried not to panic but he’s holding the love of his life’s broken body in his arms with no help in sight.
He glances behind him to the sudden sound of footsteps and yelling but he only sees more officers.
Where’s the ambulance? He needs an ambulance. Ziggy needs an ambulance.
They have so many questions and he wants to answer them, he wants to be able to fill them in on the situation so they can help but when he opens his mouth to say something all that escapes is a broken sob.
Quickly one of them drags him up to his feet, pulling him away; the other takeing his place beside Ziggy, holding pressure to his wound.
The world is a blurred mess around Flop. Voices, sirens, and distant gunshots of officers trying to quell the firefight that’s left him a widow.
