Dabi didn't know what love was, and for him it meant nothing but the biggest nonsense the world had ever invented. He'd never needed love before, and he wouldn't soon.
And things didn't change even when he joined the league and met Tomura. At least, not for him.
But for Shigaraki, something has changed.
Before, his only ambition was to destroy. Destroy the society that had so mistreated him. But now, Shigaraki also wanted to build.
A future with Dabi. Because Shigaraki fell in love. But not Dabi.
And Dabi didn't know love, he didn't want to know either.
The only thing Dabi knew was anger and hate. The only thing he wanted was revenge, and he was so blind that he didn't see Tomura break down little by little because of his own fault. Not until the day he saw it explode.
It was raining, of course it was, and the bar was empty. Dabi didn't care where the rest of the members were, but now that Shigaraki was in his room screaming while crying, Dabi wondered where the others were.
If Dabi was being honest, he was barely listening to his leader. He knew he was complaining about his recklessness in recruiting a hero, but at some point, Dabi realized that it wasn't just a boss scolding subordinate.
Tomura was worried.
When Dabi pointed this out, Shigaraki's neck and ears turned bright red from the amount of blood pooling there. Dabi couldn't identify whether it was anger or shame.
But when Tomura started to cry, he saw that it was from fear. Afraid of losing him.
His eyes widened and Dabi sat up in bed in a hurry. Seeing those thick tears running down his boss's cheeks, Dabi realized that there was something wrong, but he didn't know what.
Dabi didn't remember much about that night, but one thing he would never forget is the regret of having asked why Tomura was crying.
It cost him his league rank, a possible job, his home, but most of all, his reason.
Dabi lost his motives and didn't know what else to do after hearing from Tomura that "I love you". Because love was a disease and Dabi was terrified.
Running wasn't an option, but that's what Dabi did.
And he would never forget the pained expression on Shigaraki's face.
Because the only love Dabi received, he threw away. And the pain of taking something so important away from someone could never be forgotten.
