Chapter Text

She never heard him when he said she was beautiful. Doesn't mean he won't tell her endlessly.

He and his friends were sitting on a rocky shore, not having a care in the world. It was nice having some time off of his duties among the village. He didn't even really want to be out here, but she had insisted. His friends just followed him. Until they got bored waiting with him and left. Like he cared. He was only here for her anyway.

His thoughts were interrupted by a splash. The girl walked out of the water, arms full of shells as she  tried to get her hair out of her face. Chuckling, he helped her as she gently placed the shells in the basket she made him bring.

"Ma beautiful Ma'kkari."

At the feeling of his voice, she turns around and tilts her head at him curiously.

"You're late."

He always had made it a habit of singing and talking to her, making sure that she wasn't lost in anything anyone was saying. She smiles sheepishly at him, nodding her head towards the basket.

"I wanted to find the golden coral tablet that everyone has been talking about."

Ao'nung huffs at this, shaking his head. Her and her adventurous spirit would be the death of him.

"You'll find it, Ma'kkari. Just not today. Today we go home and feast!"

He captures her in his arms as he yelled, causing her to squirm. She silently growled as she hit his chest, trying to escape. That was all stopped when one of his arms left her waist and cup her face, lovingly gazing into her golden eyes.

"Ma beautiful, beautiful Ma'kkari. The beautiful pearl of the deep. You will one day be the death of me."

Ma'kkari stares into his eyes, before scrunching her nose and tilted her head upwards, playfully challenging her future mate. He does it back, his rare smile revealing itself.

It always did around her.

"Let's go home, ma 'Kari! I'm starving!"

"I'm coming, you baby!"
