Notes:

I blame Twitter shenanigans. That is all.

Work Text:

Sayo was just a young boy when he was sent to live with his caretakers.

He didn’t completely understand it at the time. His family was facing some sort of trouble. He barely understand the discussions and arguments among the adults before he was moved out of the main Samonji household, and away from the brothers he can just barely remember. All he caught were small snippets of their tensed discussions he overheard, the sad pink figure of one of his brothers in the middle and the pale back of his other brother’s departing figure.

He hadn’t seen them since he moved out and was placed in the care of a small family. A good, trustworthy friend of the Samonji. That man’s smile and his family’s warmth welcomed him into their humble household. It’s the first time he can breathe so easily, without that tensed “family trouble” hanging so heavily in the house.

Those months with that family might be the happiest he ever remember having.

It’s red.

Sayo stare with widened eyes at the fallen bodies of his family -  the ones who took care of him, not those related to him - laying in the pool of their blood. His eyes gaze upward to the man standing nearby with a bloodied knife in his hand. He stepped forward, Sayo stepped backward.

“So there you are… Sayo Samonji, right?” The man started to speak, slowly with a smile. “I won’t hurt you like I did to them.”

This man killed his family. This man killed his family. This man killed his family.

He snapped. He screamed and charged at the murderer. Unfortunately, he’s just a little boy. Small, light and weak against a fully grown adult man who can fight. Sayo’s yells was cut short when he get knocked unconscious. His vision turned dark.

When he woke up, he was sitting in an unknown place. His legs and arms were tied up. He looked around and see that man sitting on a chair, drinking from a mug and holding a mobile phone in his other hand. He noticed Sayo’s awake and gave him a smile, lowering the mug from his lips.

Sayo’s drowsiness faded away as his anger and sadness returned to his mind. He can barely hear the man’s words - something about a “ransom” - no, more like he didn’t want to hear his explanation. He just want that man to pay. He screamed at him, threatening him, but the man laughed and pointed out his situation.

What can a small, helpless boy like him can do? He should just sit here until he get the ransom.

Sayo snarled, but there’s nothing he can do.

If only he have power. If only.

The fox appeared in front of him. For a moment, Sayo wondered if he’s dreaming or imagining it. The man didn’t seem to see it, as he talked on the phone in another room. The fox started to speak, promising to grant him a wish and powers to fight, as long he would use his powers to fight against Witches.

It didn’t take Sayo very long to declare his wish.

“I wish to have power for revenge.”

The contract was sealed, and Sayo easily broke out of his ropes with his newly granted strength. His Soul Gem was blue, the same colour as his hair and eyes, but it’s rapidly started to darken. A sword manifested in his hand before he quickly moved to the other room, where the murderer was talking.

Unlike last time, Sayo was now stronger and faster. A yell came out from his mouth as he rushed at the man. The murderer was caught off guard - how did the brat escape? - before he tried to disabled the boy. Only to get stabbed in the chest before he can do anything. And stabbed again, again, again, again, again.

His pained, gurgling screams filled the air, as he fell backward onto the ground. His phone dropped from his hand, still in the middle of a conversation with someone. Sayo didn’t care, as he sat on the man’s stomach and keep on stabbing his chest with tears in his eyes.

He got power and he killed him, but he won’t get his family back.

Konnosuke watched the bloodied sight before him. He didn’t need to get close to know how much Sayo’s Soul Gem was darkening.

Sayo stabbed the already dead man for the last time and screamed, as his Soul Gem turned completely black. Konnosuke already started to leave before the outpour of magical energy enveloped him. One of the magical boys will noticed this soon.

Outside the first magical boys to arrive was an androgynous figure in pink and a tall, pale haired man in priestly robes. They met with Konnosuke and discussed their plans, before they entered the dark Witch’s barrier.

The interior was disturbing. Everything was dimly lit and there’s many familiars covered in blood. A good number of them all have a knife stabbed in their chest and crying. It could be his imagination, but Kousetsu thought they all sounded so sad. But he didn’t dwell on that thought for very long when Souza located the Witch at the centre.

Just like its familiars, it’s covered in blood. Unlike them, it’s holding a sword in its hand, waving it wildly as it screamed in an incomprehensible tongue. Its large, wide hat cast a shadow over its face, with only its mouth opened to scream.

The feeling Kousetsu had before was still there. But both he and Souza still manifested their swords and ready themselves for battle.

After the battle, Souza heard the news from his relatives.

Sayo was taken hostage and his care takers were murdered. Held for ransom from the Samonji - frightening, yet not at all surprising - and they were negotiating with the kidnapper until their connection got cut. They don’t know where that man or young Sayo was, or how safe the young, potential heir would be.

His heart was tensed with worry, watching everyone scramble to start searching for Sayo with their connections.

Souza’s pink Soul Gem darkened a little after tonight.
