Work Text:
Zoya used to hate the mornings. She used to hate having to get up and start another day of saving Ravka from its certain doom.
Now, mornings were quite bearable with her golden-haired boy by her side, his arm resting across her stomach.
For a little, she just watches him. The way his hair looks when the sun hits it just right. The way his brows furrow and then relax as if he’s thinking so hard about something in his sleep.
He looked saintly.
“Enjoying the view there, my love?” Nikolai smirks, cracking one eye open. “Shut up.” Zoya rolls her eyes fondly, turning on to her side, facing away from him to hide the blush that had creeped onto her face.
Nikolai laughed quietly, pulling her closer and pressing a kiss to the skin of her neck, “Good morning.”
“Morning.” Zoya responds, turning in his arms so that she’s facing him.
Nikolai rests his chin on the top of her head, his hands running through the ends of her hair. Zoya, warm and comfortable, feels herself drifting back off to sleep. She does nothing to stop herself from doing so, she hasn't got any meetings with anyone until much later in the day.
Nikolai shifts onto his back, startling Zoya, who was almost asleep, awake again.
“Must you move around so much?” She asks, slinging an arm over his torso and resting her head on his chest.
“Must you always be so grumpy?” He retorts, kissing her hairline. Zoya shakes her head and smiles, “I think we should just skip breakfast.”
“Sounds like a great plan.”
Oh, mornings were now definitely Zoya’s favorite time of day.
