Work Text:
"Do we still hate each other today?" Agnetha said in a sleepy voice, stirring at the sound of the newspaper page turning.
Anni-Frid smiled down at her.
"Of course, the press couldn't possibly go a day without reporting on our alleged feud," she said dryly. She took a deep inhale on her cigarette before resting the newspaper on her raised knees, using her newly free hand to reach to tenderly stroke the soft skin of the blonde's face. "Good morning, angel eyes."
"Good morning, darling," Agnetha replied. Slowly opening her eyes, she noticed the light coming in through the windows. She sat up and frowned. "What time is it? Am I late?"
"It's just coming up to 10am," Anni-Frid said. "I told the boys we'd skip breakfast this morning. You seemed like you needed your sleep."
"I must have done," Agnetha said, settling back into the pillows, and shifting a little closer to the other woman as she did so.
"My little sleeping beauty," Anni-Frid said, leaning down and pressing a kiss to Agnetha's lips, smiling when the blonde gasped at the contact.
"It's funny, really, how convinced the press are that we hate each other," Agnetha said when they broke away.
"If only they knew," Anni-Frid said, gesturing towards the newspaper on her lap. "I can just see the headline: "ABBA QUEER SEX SCANDAL: Supergroup in Lewd Hotel Partner Swaps."
Agnetha made a disgusted face.
"You think they would let themselves lose out on a chance to use the word 'lesbian'?" she asked.
"Exclusively because they would want people to know it was the boys too," Anni-Frid replied. "I think they would almost certainly use a photo where it appears that I'm looking at your bottom, though."
"Only appears?" Agnetha teased.
"I'm very subtle, when I need to be," Anni-Frid said, offering the cigarette to the other woman, who waved it away, raising her eyebrows. "I'm quitting after this one."
"You're always quitting after that one," Agnetha said with a smile.
"I am," Anni-Frid said simply.
Agnetha lifted herself up on her elbow to bring their lips together again, lifting her free hand to run over the older woman’s shoulder.
"I wish we could wake up like this every day," she said softly. "Without worrying about all that, I mean."
"Me too," Anni-Frid replied. She extinguished her cigarette in the ashtray and dropped the newspaper to the floor, pulling the blonde into her side. "One day, precious one."
"What do you think it would be like?" Agnetha asked softly.
"Waking up together every morning?" Anni-Frid clarified.
"Yes," the blonde replied.
"Well, you would finally be free of Björn’s snoring, although I would be stuck with yours," Anni-Frid said, laughing when Agnetha gave her a gentle shove.
"Seriously, though," Agnetha said, pressing a kiss to her shoulder.
"I think it would be quite wonderful," Anni-Frid replied. "I suppose, down the line, we could just run away, go someplace remote. We could spend our days doing precisely as we liked, Benny and Björn in an adjacent room."
"That sounds nice," Agnetha said, threading her fingers through the other woman’s.
"It does," Anni-Frid said. "I could finally make you my Grandma's köttbullar. I know everyone says theirs are the best, but hers really are."
Agnetha smiled. "I would still want to sing with you," she said quietly. "Maybe I would write more, too."
"I'm glad to know I would still get to hear your beautiful voice," Anni-Frid replied. "I don't think I would mind about much else."
"Like this?" Agnetha said.
She started singing, her voice a little crackly from sleep and an unexpected bashfulness:
"We can go dancing, we can go walking, as long as we're together
Listen to some music, maybe just talking, get to know you better."
She felt Anni-Frid's finger under her chin, encouraging her to lift her head until their eyes met.
"'Cause you know I've got
So much that I wanna do, when I dream I'm alone with you
It's magic."
"Yes, very much like that," Anni-Frid said, closing the gap between their lips for a quick kiss. "Getting a private performance from Agnetha Fältskog is something I will never tire of."
"You're my favourite audience," Agnetha said.
She gave a small bow, causing her hair to tumble across her face and Anni-Frid moved to brush it back behind her ear.
"And you're wearing my favourite outfit of yours," Anni-Frid said, running her hands down the bare skin of her back and brushing the silk of her knickers. Leaning in, she placed several kisses in succession on Agnetha's upper thigh, stomach and just above her nipple, quickly moving up to meet the other woman’s lips as she moaned. Resisting the urge to use the fingers playing with the seam of Agnetha's knickers to remove the garment, she ran her hands up to cup the other woman’s face, pressing a soft kiss to her lips before pulling away. "I love you, angel eyes."
"I love you more," Agnetha replied, bringing her hands up and placing them over the other woman’s.
"Impossible," Anni-Frid told her, taking in the younger woman’s smile and the tears glistening in her eyes. Agnetha was prone to crying, and Anni-Frid didn't always understand why, but the lump in her own throat gave her a good idea.
She held her gaze until the clock on the wall chimed for the hour and the other woman looked away.
"I suppose I should get dressed," Agnetha said, kissing the other woman’s shoulder as she got up. "Has Björn been by?"
"He dropped some things off when he came to ask about breakfast," Anni-Frid replied, gesturing towards a pile of clothes on the dresser.
"Do you think he's forgotten anything essential this time?" Agnetha said.
"Oh, almost certainly," Anni-Frid said.
Agnetha swung her legs over the side of the bed and hopped down, letting out a frustrated growl a few seconds later.
"We missed out an important part of the fantasy," she said, turning back to face Anni-Frid with a frown on her face.
"What's that?" Anni-Frid asked.
"The part where we can actually keep our things in the rooms we sleep in and not have to rely on our gay husbands to bring us clothes," Agnetha said.
"I feel like it was implied," Anni-Frid said.
"There's barely an outfit here," Agnetha said, holding the garments up in a bunch in the other woman's direction before discarding them again and bringing one hand to her forehead in frustration.
"Perhaps you can borrow something from Benny," Anni-Frid teased.
"Does he have a bra in my size?" Agnetha said.
"I mean, I wouldn't entirely rule the possibility out. Come here," Anni-Frid said, taking each of the blonde's hands in her own and giving her fingers a squeeze. "It's okay. My case is here, I'll get dressed in a moment and go next door and figure it all out."
Agnetha let out a breath, the building panic subsiding.
"Thank you," she said. "I know I didn't need to get worked up, I just-."
"Hush, precious one, it's fine," Anni-Frid replied. "I'm sorry for teasing."
"I don't think I would know who you were if you didn't," Agnetha said.
Anni-Frid laughed.
"Well, if you're sure you find it an endearing quality, I have to say, from where I'm standing, Bjorn's selection doesn't seem like such a bad choice for rehearsals at all," she said.
Agnetha rolled her eyes, a blush creeping into her cheeks.
"I don't think it would encourage you to do your best work," she said.
"Perhaps not, but it would be the most enjoyable practice we've had for a while," Anni-Frid said.
She hooked her hands behind Agnetha's thighs, pulling the other woman towards her. The blonde shrieked in surprise as she fell forwards, the noise turning to a giggle when she landed on the bed next to Anni-Frid.
"I suppose it won't hurt to keep the boys waiting a little longer," Agnetha said, closing her eyes as the brunette pressed kisses along her neck.
"My thoughts exactly," Anni-Frid whispered into her skin. "Just a few minutes more."
