Kiss Me in the Dark

“I'm bored,” Kenma sighed as the four men lay on their couch dejectedly.

“I second that,” Kuroo exhaled slowly, staring up at the ceiling.

“Third,” Bokuto huffed, “I want to do something!”

“Fourth. Let's find something to do,” Akaashi suggested. The lovers had been chilling on their lazy night, watching TV, when the power had abruptly gone out leaving the four of them in darkness. Luckily, their phones had been charged before the blackout, but more importantly, they had each other. But now that an hour had passed, they were starting to get restless.
“Can we play hide and seek?” Bokuto asked, “it's been ages since we’ve played it,”

“I don't see why not,” Kuroo shrugged, even though Bokuto couldn't see him.

“Sounds like fun,” Akaashi added. “Kenma? What about you?”

“I nodded, but I forgot you guys can’t see me,” Kenma replied, and the four men got up from their seats.

“Ok, so let's decide who’s seeking first!” Bokuto’s face suddenly glowed as his phone screen lit up the room. “We’re all going to think of a number between one and one hundred, then I'll randomly generate one, and whoever is the furthest from it has to seek first,”

“Alright, Kōu. Good plan. My guess is forty-one,” Akaashi announced.

“Sixty-nine,” Kuroo said as sensibly as possible while Kenma and Bokuto snickered.

“In that case, I'll say ninety-six,” Kenma said with a chuckle.

“Children,” Akaashi laughed.

“You still love us,” Kuroo smirked. “Kōu, choose your number,”

“Twenty,” Bokuto pressed the “generate” button which quickly scrambled to ninety. “Aw, man! I lost! Okay, I'll count to thirty,”

“No fair. Count to fifty,” Kuroo pleaded, and Bokuto sighed.

“Okay, I will. One, two, three-” Bokuto shut his eyes and began counting. Three sets of footsteps thudded away as Akaashi, Kenma and Kuroo ran to find a hiding place.

“Can we all hide together?” Akaashi asked, and Kenma nodded.

“Yes, let's do that. Any ideas, Keiji? Kuro?”

“The linen closet. If we move some of the things, we can stand on one side and have the towels and things on the other,” Kuroo replied and the three of them rushed down the hallway.

“Does anyone else find it ironic that we are rushing to hide in the closet?” Akaashi asked as they frantically moved things over so they could stand inside.

“Funny, Keiji,” Kenma rolled his eyes, “how exactly are we going to close the doors?”

“Just use your fingers to pull it in from the inside,” Kuroo shrugged. “I'll turn on my phone torchlight so you can see,”

“THIRTY-NINE! FORTY! FORTY-ONE!” The trio heard their boyfriend from a distance, meaning they were running out of time. They quickly pulled the door in, closing it firmly. It was hard to see because it was so dark, but there was a chance Bokuto would use his phone to see.

“It's a bit cramped in here,” Akaashi mumbled, “Ken, you’re pressing into me,”

“Whoops, sorry,” Kenma teased, leaning into his boyfriend more.

“Ah, Ken, don't do that,” Akaashi hissed, attempting to hide his pleasure.

“No, keep doing it, Ken. Every time you take a step back, Keiji backs into me,” Kuroo whispered huskily, making both Akaashi and Kenma shiver slightly. The three of them stood in silence, their breathing nothing but ghosts of air as they heard Bokuto running around the house to find them.

“WHERE ARE YOU GUYS?!” The trio heard him yell, followed by loud footsteps thumping down the hall.

“He’s going to hurt himself, running around in the dark like that,” Akaashi muttered, to which Kenma promptly silenced him with an off-centred kiss. “W-what was that for?” Keiji mumbled shyly, and Kenma grinned in the dark.

“No reason,” He replied casually, falling silent again.

“MAKE A NOISE!” Kōtarō shouted, “I CAN’T FIND YOU GUYS!”

“What do we do?” Kenma whispered, and Kuroo seized the opportunity to find Kenma’s side in the dark and tickle him. “Oi! Cut that out!” Kenma yelped, elbowing Akaashi, who was knocked closer to Tetsurō. “Don’t do that again, Kuro,”

“I HEARD A NOISE!” Bokuto yelled before Kuroo could reply.

“I’m starting to feel bad,” Akaashi mumbled, “I’ll just forfeit,”

“What? Where’s the fun in that?” Kuroo pouted, awkwardly manoeuvring his hand to gently clasp Akaashi’s arm.

“Don’t you want to win?” Kenma added, his competitive side starting to creep out.

“Well, yes, I suppose so,” Keiji relented, “but let's at least make things a bit easier for our poor boyfriend,”

“KŌU, OVER HERE!” Tetsurō yelled as heavy footfalls neared their hiding spot again.

“I’m going to find you guys, I swear. This is literally our home and I have no idea where you guys are,” They heard him ramble, the sound of closing doors and opening boxes audible through the linen closet’s door. “Maybe if I shine the torch everywhere, I’ll find someone. What if I find something I was trying to look for and forgot about it? That’d be cool. What if- AHHH!” The shrill yell made Kuroo, Akaashi and Kenma freeze as if they hadn’t already been as still as possible.

“We should go check on him,” Kuroo whispered.

“I think he hurt himself,” Kenma added, as the three of them pressed their shoulders to the door, opening it successfully.

“Kōtarō, are you alright?” Akaashi asked, flashing his phone torch down the hall.

“Bo?” There was silence.

“Wait, what happened? I thou-”

“HAHAHAH SUPRISE I FOUND YOU GUYS!” Bokuto laughed heartily, the torch’s spotlight crazily spinning around the hallway. “That was such a good plan,” he smirked gleefully to himself as Kuroo bounded over to him, digging his fist into his boyfriend’s muscled bicep.

“You scared us!” Tetsurō frowned as Bokuto grinned sheepishly.

“Sorry, I would’ve never found you guys!”

“That’s probably enough hide and seek for now,” Akaashi huffed with a gentle smile.

“Didn’t you like my kiss, Keiji?” Kenma queried slyly, linking his arm with Akaashi’s.

“Um, well,” An embarrassed pause. “Of course, I did,”

“You got hide-and-seek kisses?” Bokuto asked, “Lucky!”

“There’s plenty more to go around,” Kuroo smiled, pressing his lips to Bokuto’s cheek. As he did, the lights flickered for a moment before all the power in the house was restored.

“Just when I was getting used to the dark,” Akaashi commented.

“Now you can see us when we smother you with kisses,” Tetsurō smiled and Kōtarō nodded enthusiastically.

“I love you guys,” he gushed as the four men retreated back to their bedroom, collapsing onto the giant bed.

“Love you too, Bo,” Kuroo smiled as Akaashi kissed Kōtarō’s hand and Kenma huddled into the volleyball player’s side. In the dark or not, everything about their love was right.
