Chapter Text
Where is it.
I have to find it.
He's waiting on me right now.
I can't fail him now.
I can't lose the only person I have left.
The front gate had failed to close, it had gotten caught on itself. Now their base was filled with those subject to the infection. They had gotten more aggressive recently, it was getting harder to keep them out.
They were going to die. Die alone, apart from each other. Without even saying goodbye. No one knowing of their sad fate, and all those moments they had shared would be abandoned and lost. Like they were, their base was left a ghost of what it once was. It was once full of life, but now it was lost to time. Time had gotten to the others, and arguments blew up. But between them, they had an agreement, a promise that they couldn't break. He would have to stay by his side until they died.
I found it!
There it was, at the bottom of the chest. Bandages, they weren't much, but it was the best thing to find at the moment. This needed to be done quickly.
He quickly grabbed the roll and ran.
Rushing past the hoard, knocking over everything in the way. From empty boxes to cans they set up as alarms. It wouldn't matter the mess he would make, nor the damage he would cause if they died. The only thought going through his mind now was the survival of his best friend.
The path was blocked. He looked around for anything that would help; an ax was leaning against the wall. Immediately he grabbed the ax and started swinging. Blood splattered and flew all around the more he swung. It was the blood of once-living people. Although it was hard to say if they were even still conscious by the time he had gotten to them.
It was likely they weren't.
They were mindless creatures at this point. He didn't care that they were once people, people with lives that got discontinued due to some psycho madman. If he could've done anything, it would've been-
Oh.
He was soaked in blood. But not his own. It was of those he slaughtered, could he call it that? It was more he put them out of their misery, he told himself. But deep inside he knew that he could've done anything else instead of killing them.
He threw the ax to the ground and continued shoving through every obstacle in his way. There was no time to stand around and sob at a loss that didn't matter to him. If he didn't hurry up he would have a bigger loss on his hands.
He rushed into a small broom closet and immediately shoved his body against the door. Putting all the force he could to keep it shut. Once it closed shut he barricaded it with the heaviest things he could find.
"Oh hey Grian! I thought you left me for dead out there!"
"Scar, now's not the time to make small talk. You're bleeding!"
"Oh,” he looked down at the wound in his leg. “well so it seems"
"Just.. put your leg on this box to elevate it for now. I brought something to help."
Grian pushed a box and placed it near Scar, which he then lifted; with the support of Grian, onto the box. Grian released the leg brace on Scar’s leg, which caused more blood to pour out.
Noticing the blood, Grian quickly grabbed the bandages and wrapped them around the wound.
“I'm sorry if I'm a pain for you to deal with.”
“That's nonsense Scar!”
“But I got stabbed in the leg and now you have to deal with caring for me! You risked your life there!”
Grian tightened the bandages.
“Ow”
“Scar, look. I didn’t risk my life just because we made a promise. You aren’t a pain, it isn’t your fault.”
“But it is, I caused this!”
“No you didn't.”, Grian grabbed onto Scar’s shoulders, facing each other eye to eye. “It wasn’t your fault. You didn’t want all of this to happen. This was just the result of some failed experiment of that laboratory you’re no longer a part of. I wouldn’t be putting this much effort in if I didn't actually care for you.”
“Aww, that's sweet Grian”
“Well don’t expect this too often Scar”
“Aw, well it was a nice thing to hear from you”
“Yeah, it was..”
Blood dripped from his face.
“I’ll clean that up for you.”, Scar took off a scarf from his neck and wiped the blood from his face. “Oh, and also. Grian, whose blood is this?”
He froze.
“Grian? What did you do? Did you kill a bunch of people? Grian! They were people with lives! You just took the lives of so many people!”
“Scar, I-”
A piece of the door flew off and a hand burst out of the hole.
“Oh no!”
“Scar! Get ready, I'm going to get us out of here!”
“How! Grian we can’t both get out of here!”, Scar said grabbing his crutch and balancing himself up. Grabbing the other that was leaning against a stack of boxes. “Just look at me! I can’t catch up to you. You just have to leave me behind Grian. If you want to survive”
“I have a plan, Scar. Just follow my lead”
He rummaged through the boxes.
“Well, what’s your plan?”
“Get in that cart.”
Scar turned to look, a cart was hidden in the back of the room.
“What!”
“I said, get in the cart”
“Are you insane, Grian!”
Grian took out a gun and bullets.
“Well it seems I am, now take this Scar.”, he said handing Scar the gun. “Now sit, and shoot”
“We can’t do whatever it is you’re planning. They’re people!”
“They aren’t now, and we’re just taking them out of their misery. They caused the others to run.”, he loaded up another gun. “Do you want to see Mumbo again or not?”
Scar looked at the cart, then back at the gun.
“Scar!”
Scar looked back up at Grian. He clenched his jaw.
“Okay Grian. Let’s do it”
