Work Text:
Living with a quirk was a dream for a lot of people since they were a child. The thought of becoming a hero and helping people was mesmerizing and a lot of quirkless people were getting jealous of their abilities. While others dreamed of such a life, you hoped to get rid of your quirk. They called you “Dreamer” since you were able to use your quirk to enter peoples dreams and do all sorts of things in there. You usually were called to help people with severe nightmares since you were able to banish nightmare seedlings. You worked closely together with the local hospital, but even thought you were seen as some kind of hero by your patients you didn't really feel like a "real" hero. For a long time you thought that those were the only abilities you had until you had gotten into an accident with your best friend. You two had been caught in a villain attack and one of their quirks had somehow reacted with yours sending a wave right towards your best friend. You hadn't even known that this could even happen until this day and you were confused about everything that happened after that. Your friend had fallen into an uncurable coma and not even the doctors could figure out what was wrong with them. A few weeks after the accident they had sadly passed away. You had no chance to help them and you kept on blaming yourself for their death because it was your quirk that reacted with that villains quirk. After everything that happened you tried everything in your might to get rid of your quirk because you never wanted to hurt anyone else ever again. You stopped working at the hospital and completely secluded yourself. During that time, you accidentally stumbled into two guys that felt just as miserable as you and the spark instantly flew over and you started to be the greatest of friends. Your feathered friend Hawks and the ex-member of the League of Villains Dabi helped you find your way back into a normal life and they actually mentioned to find a way to weaken your quirk. Someone had developed a quirk dampener that thankfully worked on you. The cuffs that kept your quirk sealed hadn't moved from your wrist ever since that day so that something like what happened with your best friend could never happen again.
It was a normal and boring weekday as you left your apartment that day. While you were walking down the street you suddenly heard the sound of wings flapping above you. The sound got louder and you name was called several times before you were lifted up into the air. You looked up at your friendly kidnapper and shook your head laughing. It was no one other than Keigo.
“Keigo…How many times do I have to tell you that you should stop just picking me up from the street whenever you feel like it?”, you asked a little annoyed since this wasn’t the first time this had happened.
As he didn’t instantly answer you looked at him and noticed the serious look on his face.
“What’s going on?”, you asked now in a more serious tone since you could see that something was wrong.
“No time to complain now. I need you to help me”, he said and kept looking forward.
“Where are you taking me? And how in god’s name am I supposed to help you?”, you asked confused.
“There’s no time to explain. You’ll see soon”, he said before he picked up the pace.
It took a while until you were able to gain your orientation back and noticed that you were above the street that lead directly to the hospital.
“Keigo…why are you taking me here?”, you asked now with a slight fear starting to bubble up slowly in your body.
He landed on one of the balconies at the hospital and placed you back on your feet. You looked at Keigo.
“Why are we here?”
Keigo sighed and turned your body around so you were facing the door to the balcony.
“Just look into the room.”
You stepped towards the door and opened it. As soon as you set your foot inside the room your eyes landed on the person laying on the hospital bed in this room. The anxiety that had build in the time you were flying here was now amplified around 1000 times. You almost ran into the room and rushed to the persons side.
“What happened to him, Keigo?”, you asked as tears started to form in your eyes and you grabbed Dabis hand and softly caressed it.
“We were on a mission outside the city when someone attacked us out of nowhere. I still have no idea who they were but some kind of wave hit Dabi and ever since then he hasn’t woken up. The doctors said he is in a pretty bad condition and if he doesn’t wake up soon he might die.”, he explained and sat down next to you.
As soon as his words had reached your ears it was as if you were brought back to the accident a few years ago. You were about to have the worst panic attack if it wasn’t for Keigo instantly pulling you into a hug to keep you calm.
“Breath”, he whispered and you deeply inhaled his scent.
Ever since Keigo, Dabi and you had been around each other you had experienced some pretty severe panic attacks and you figured out after multiple times that for some reason Keigos scent and words were able to ground you pretty quickly and stopped you from collapsing.
After staying in his embrace for a while until you had calmed again you sat back up and looked at Dabi who was laying there as if he was just sleeping peacefully. Your body wasn’t shaking anymore and Keigo softly grabbed your hand again to show you that he was there for you.
“Y/N, I know you don’t use your quirk anymore ever since the accident but we think you might be able to help Dabi. I talked to the doctors and they think that the chance to bring him back and save him from dying is really high if you try to enter his dreamlike state”, Keigo explained in a very soft voice.
Your head turned towards the birdman and your eyes scanned his face for any signs that he was joking.
“Keigo…I…I can’t…I’m sorry. You know I promised to never cause anyone harm with my quirk anymore. I can’t help him. Besides that how do we even know if my quirk still works or if I can still control it. It’s too risky, Keigo. I don’t want to hurt him”, you tried to reason with him.
You understood his and the doctors idea but it was just too risky. You didn’t want to use Dabi as guinea pig and then maybe fail in the end and lose him. You could never forgive yourself for losing another person that you loved more than yourself. Keigo placed his hand on your shoulder as he watched you cry in frustration. He wished that he could help Dabi in any way but sadly there was nothing he could do. You were his only hope.
“I know it’s risky but if we don’t risk this then maybe we’ll never see him ever again. Do you really want that?”
You shook your head. You knew he wasn’t trying to put pressure on you but you still felt like the air in your lungs was being squeezed out by his heavy words.
“I don’t want to lose him”, you cried and leaned your head against Keigos shoulder.
“Me neither. I’m sure you can do it. I will be right here by your side and if something happens we’ll stop right away and consult the doctors again, alright?”, Keigo suggested and after some more thinking you agreed.
He was right. You couldn’t let Dabi down with not trying. He would want to be brought back and he would be the first one to encourage you to use your quirk if it meant saving someone’s life.
“I’ll do it.”, you mumbled still sniffling and rubbed your eyes before you looked at Dabi again.
“Alright. I’ll tell the doctors and let them know what we’ll be doing. I’ll be right back”
Keigo placed a kiss on your head before he got up and left the room. While he was gone you sat down on the edge of the bed and leaned your body forward to lean your forehead against Dabis.
“I’ll do everything to bring you back. So please if you can hear me in there. Please hold on a little while longer. I need you…we need you”, you whispered.
It took a little until Keigo came back and sat back down on the chair next to the bed. You got down from the bed and sat down next to him.
“Promise me to wake me up if anything happens”, you said and he nodded.
“I promise. I’ll be right here observing both your vitals and if anything happens I’ll notify you.”
You nodded and took one last deep breath before you held your arms out towards Keigo. He grabbed the small key from his keychain and unlocked the dampeners and removed them. After receiving the dampeners you had asked Keigo to keep the key with him and never ever give it to you so you would never be able to hurt anyone else ever again. He had kept that promise until this day and you never actually thought you would ever take them off again to use your quirk. You rubbed your wrists before you looked at your hands. It felt weird to not have the cuffs on, but for some reason it also felt you with a weird feeling of power that you hadn’t felt in forever. Keigo grabbed your hands and made you look at him. He had noticed that you were lost in your thoughts and brought you back to reality.
“Are you ready or do you still need some time?”, he asked with a slight smile on his face.
“I’m ready.”, you reassured and placed your one hand on Dabis and the other on Keigos.
You closed your eyes and concentrated on the warmth of Dabis hand in yours. Usually you would feel a slight tug before you could enter someone’s dream but for some reason this tug was a strong pulling and almost sucked your into the dream. This was already a sign that something was really wrong with this situation. As you entered Dabis dream you looked around where you had ended up. The location was unfamiliar and you couldn’t really explain where exactly you were.
“Y/N. Are you ok in there?”, you heard Keigos voice like a faint whisper in your ear.
“I’m ok. Everything a little weird but I think that might be normal for this situation. Don’t worry about me”
You felt your hand being squeezed and you looked down at your hand to see that there was nothing. You were glad that your body was still able to separate reality from dreamworld and that you were able to hear and feel Keigo on the other side. You decided to find Dabi as soon as possible. You started to walk around to see where the dream lead you and after a few steps the scenery already shifted and you ended up at a very familiar place.
“What is this?”, you asked yourself and looked at the building in front of you.
You were standing right in front of your apartment complex. Why did the dream guide you there? This entire situation was weird and you already felt like this wasn’t going to be an easy thing to solve. You tried to grab the doorhandle of the main door and as your hand just phased through the handle you swore.
“FUCK”
You walked through the door and tried to get up to your apartment without phasing through the steps of the stairs. With a lot of concentration you managed to get to your apartment. As you entered it you let yourself fall onto your couch exhausted.
“Y/N. Your vitals are a little off. Are you alright in there?”, you heard Keigo whisper in your ear again.
“I’m a little exhausted. Everything is going wrong Keigo. I can’t touch anything. What if I’m not just only not here physically but also invisible, what then?”, you asked and tried to catch your breath again.
“It will be alright. We’ll figure out something. Just continue to investigate. I’m here with you. Remember that you are not alone”
You closed your eyes and concentrated on Keigos encouraging words. He was right. You weren’t alone in this. He was right there with you. You would be able to do this. You were sure about it. After you had finally regained your strength you looked around the apartment to figure out if something had changed. It didn’t take you long until you noticed the increased chaos around the house and the extra set of clothes that didn’t belong to you on the bedroom. Whoever was staying with you in the apartment might be the culprit of this entire situation. Maybe that was Dabis nightmare seedling. Just as you returned to the entrance you heard voices and the sound of keys in the door. You hid since you weren’t sure if others could see you and observed the door as it opened.
“So what do you wanna eat for lunch?”
“Whatever you make is fine, my love”
Both voices were familiar to you and as they came into view your jaw dropped. You were looking at yourself and Dabi and they were holding hands like a couple. Just as that information arrived at your brain the scene changed to something even more unbelievable. Dabi was kissing you passionately until he let go of you and started walking towards the kitchen. You on the other hand left to go into the living room.
Your brain was trying hard to understand what just happened. Before you could even think of what to do your body almost automatically guided you into the living room to confront the you of this dream. As soon as you stood in front of her she noticed you. Horror was written in her eyes as she stared at you.
“You are me”, she said and stood up to take a better look at you.
“I know, but what is going on here? Me and Dabi? Since when?”, you asked her and watched as she smiled.
“A little over 5 months. I finally confessed to him and he felt the same way.”, she said happily and looked as if she was deeply in love.
You just stood there with your brain running on overdrive. 5 months? That must mean that time in here was running way faster than in the real world. This might be a real problem. It would be hard for you to convince Dabi to came back to the real world with you if he was already used to the dream or in this case a nice nightmare that slowly killed him. As your brain cleared up you finally understood. The you in front of you was Dabis nightmare seedling and you needed to somehow get rid of her.
“This is wrong. Nothing you see here is real”, you said and she began to laugh.
“Are you jealous that future you had the balls to confess while you are still figuring out your feelings?”, she asked and you shook your head.
“WHAT? No! But this fake world is slowly killing Dabi in the real world. Do you not realize that?”, you asked her and she just grinned.
“Who are you even to talk like this? Look at you”
She stepped closer and reached out to touch you but her hand just phased right through your body.
“You are not even here so how do you think you can save him”, she said grinning even more evil.
“He is where he belongs, where he wants to be. You could never be able to change his mind. He has everything he needs right here”, she added and you suddenly heard noises coming from the corridor.
“Little mouse, who are you talking to?”, Dabi suddenly said and already approached the room.
“No one, my love. I was just talking to myself. No worries”, she said and smiled as Dabi wrapped his arms around her waist and softly kissed her cheek.
“Alright, babe. I’ll be back in the kitchen making us some nice food. Love you”, he whispered and kissed hear lips softly.
“I love you too”, she said and looked straight at you with a devilish smile.
After Dabi had left she sat down on the couch and kept grinning.
“I guess you are on your own now little me. Good luck getting rid of me”, she added and focused her gaze onto her phone.
You walked out of the kitchen into the next empty room that turned out to be the bathroom. You looked at yourself in the mirror. At least your reflection was still there. Maybe that was at least a good sign.
“This is bad. This is very bad. Keigo can you hear me?”, you called out while looked at the mess that was you right now.
“I’m here. What’s going on?”
“The nightmare seedling that keeps Dabi in this dream trapped in me”
It was silent on Keigos end for a bit until he spoke up again.
“Fuck. So you have to get rid of yourself?”, he asked and you nodded forgetting that he can’t see you.
“Yes. Unless I find another way to have this nightmare end. Why did this have to happen? Why does the dream me have to trap Dabi in basically his dream world”
“What are you talking about?”, Keigo said confused.
“They are in a relationship. They are living in my apartment. Fuck Keigo I think I just now realized that I love him”, you confessed and Keigo slightly chuckled on the other end.
“Took you long enough. But in all seriousness is there any way to end a nightmare without destroying the nightmare seedling?”
You ignored his comment and thought of another way to end a nightmare. All you ever tried was removing the nightmare seedling. A thing you had never even considered was taking the host of the nightmare and bringing them back to reality. Maybe that was the way to get Dabi out of this state.
“I think I might be able to extract Dabi from the nightmare. But there is this problem. He can’t see me. Only the nightmare seedling can. But I have a reflection”
Keigo was thinking hard.
“Maybe if you can get Dabi in front of a surface that shows your reflection he can see you?”, Keigo suggested.
“Maybe. I’ll try everything I can. Thank you for being here”
Keigo smiled and squeezed your hand. You gathered your thoughts again and left the bathroom to approach Dabi. You walked into the kitchen and watched from the doorframe as Dabi was cooking. He looked so happy you almost felt bad for wanting to pull him out of this nightmare. You had never seen him like this before.
“I really don’t wanna take her away from you but I can’t lose you. This is not our world or reality. This is wrong”, you mumbled and continued to watch him.
You needed to find a way to somehow get him to the closest mirror. You looked around the kitchen and noticed that he moved a steaming pot from the stove to the side and the window above it steamed up. Maybe you were able to write into the fogged-up part. You concentrated your entire energy into your hands and began to write into the fog. It actually worked. The words “This is not real” slowly appeared on the window and you hoped he would soon look towards it.
“Come on, Dabi. Look up before it’s gone”, you said and finally watched him look at the window.
“That’s…weird”, Dabi said before he watched the letters disappear again.
You moved to the window again and continued your plan. The word “mirror” appeared and as he looked towards the window again you continued to write it over and over again.
“What the hell”, he said and watched the letters appear out of nowhere.
“Go to the mirror, Dabi” was the last thing I wrote into the fog hoping that he would finally get what I was trying to say.
“I’m losing my mind”, he said and continued to cook.
“Come on Dabi. Don’t make me spell it out for you”, you mumbled before you started to write “mirror” onto the window again and again.
You were starting to get frustrated, but you weren’t going to stop until he got your message.
“I’m going, alright?”, he said as he saw it and turned off the stove before walking off.
You followed him into the bathroom and stepped into vision as he looked at himself in the mirror. His eyes widened as he spotted you and he instantly looked next to him where you were standing in the mirror but it seemed that he still couldn’t see me next to him.
“How?”, he asked and you slightly smiled at him.
“Hey Dabi”, you said hoping that he was able to hear you.
“Your voice…you sound like her and look like her but what are you?”, he asked and you sighed as you realized he was able to understand you.
“I am the real her. The one you see with you right now isn’t real. She is your nightmare seedling. You are trapped in your own paradise right now, Dabi”, you tried to explain to him.
He looked at you in the mirror and then walked to the bathroom door. His eyes wandered to the other version of you in the living room.
“So this Y/N with me isn’t real?”, he asked and looked back into the bathroom forgetting that he couldn’t see you just like this.
“Yes”, you only agreed and walked over to him and placed one of your hands on his eyes.
Dabis vision suddenly changed and he was able to see the dark aura the nightmare seedling was emitting. You removed your hand and his vision turned back to normal.
“How was all of this not real?”, Dabi asked as he returned to the mirror and looked at you again.
“When you and Keigo were outside the city you were attacked and send into some kind of sleeping state. He brought me to the hospital to use my powers so I could enter the dream you are trapped in and bring you back. I know it’s a lot but please just trust me”
“How do you expect me to believe you? Y/N would never use her quirk again. She swore to herself to never use it and she doesn’t break her promises”, he said and ran his hand through his hair in frustration.
“I didn’t choose to use my quirk just like this. I chose to use it because the person that is most important to me is trapped and about to fucking die if I don’t do anything. Dabi please believe me. If I don’t get you out of here soon I’ll lose you forever”, you explained noticing your eyes started to water.
Dabi was thinking hard as he looked at you. Your words and the things he had seen matched and there was this feeling deep in his chest that was sure that you weren’t lying but he still hesitated. What if you were the nightmare seedling? What if you were trying to steal him away from paradise? All these thoughts rushed through his head until he remembered a really crucial detail. He walked back to the bathroom door and looked one last time into the living room. He noticed the missing cuffs on the other yous wrists and he instantly knew you weren’t lying. He returned to the mirror and locked eyes with you.
“You are right. This is not real. How do we get out of here?”, he asked you.
“You have to somehow take my hand. I don’t know how though since you can only see me through the mirror”, you said while your eyes watered from relieve that he finally understood his situation.
As you stepped closer to him and tried to touch him your hand went right through him. Dabi looked around and then had an idea.
“The mirror”, he said and then stepped forward to place his hand on the cold surface.
He was right. He was able to hear and see you through the mirror, maybe if you placed your hand on there too he would be able to feel you. As you placed your hand on the mirror your body was flooded with warmth.
“You are here”, you heard next to you and before he could say anything more you had already hugged him.
Dabi looked down at you and slowly moved his arms around you, embracing you even tighter.
“Finally”, you sighed and buried your face in his chest.
You’ve never been this glad to feel the warmth of another human being before. You looked up at Dabi and had to smile as he looked down at you with loving eyes.
“Let’s get the hell out of here”, he said smiling.
You nodded and moved out of the hug to look around one last time. After you noticed nothing out of the ordinary you decided it was safe to leave. You grabbed Dabis hands and closed your eyes to concentrate back on reality. A sudden cold flooded your body as you were pushed out of the dream back into reality.
You awoke abruptly from the dream and instantly looked around to see that you were back in the hospital room. Keigo was still sitting next to you holding your hand.
“Are you ok? What happened in there?”, he asked curious.
“I’m more than ok. I did it. I managed to free him from the nightmare. I’m pretty sure the nightmare seedling will die once the host wakes up again. Keigo I did it”, you said feeling so proud of yourself.
“I told you, you could do it. I’m so proud of you”, Keigo said and ruffled your hair.
You smiled and grabbed Dabis hand now with both your hands. You leaned forwards and placed a kiss on his hand. Everything that he needed to do now was just wake up.
A few hours had passed by and still no signs of Dabi waking up. You had started to doubt your actions already but Keigo kept reminding you that Dabis body just had to regain energy for him to wake up and that you just have to be patient. Maybe he really was just extremely exhausted still from the attack and then from the stress inside the dream. You lifted his hand up to your face and leaned your forehead again it.
“Come back to me, please”, you whispered and closed your eyes.
You felt Keigos hand softly stroke your back as your eyes started to fill with tears. You couldn’t have messed up. He needed to wake up soon. It was quiet in the room for some time and the silence almost felt painful.
“Hey! Hands off my little mouse, birdie”, you suddenly heard and instantly lifted your head.
As you realized that Dabi was finally awake your feelings overwhelmed you.
“Dabi”, you almost screamed and instantly jumped into his arms.
“Whoa, whoa. Easy there. You’re gonna kill me”, he laughed and hugged you tighter, burying his face in the crook of your neck.
“You saved me.”, he whispered and moved so that he could take a good look at your face.
The expression on his face was soft and loving as he saw some tears slowly run down your cheeks. Your heart was hammering against your chest and it wasn’t just because he was finally awake but because you had finally realized what you felt for him this entire time. You didn’t want to admit it but if it weren’t for the nightmare seedling you might have never realized it this early. You were so happy to have him back you couldn’t even think clearly anymore.
“Don’t cry. You’re my hero”, Dabi added as he softly brushed away some tears with his thumbs before he suddenly pressed his lips to yours without a warning.
You were taken back by his actions and slowly pushed him away.
“Hey”, you complained with red cheeks and a hot face.
“I just needed to make sure you are real”, he said grinning.
“I feel like I shouldn’t be here”, you heard Keigo laugh next to you.
You had completely forgotten that he was still there too. You blushed even more (if that was even possible) and watched as Dabi grinned even brighter as he saw your embarrassment.
“I’m glad you’re back, man”, Keigo said and pat Dabis shoulder as he stood up from his seat.
“Me too”, he answered and looked back at you.
“I’ll leave you two alone. You look like you have a lot to talk about”
Keigo left the room and took off shortly after he had entered the balcony. Now it was just you and Dabi. Even though you usually got along great it somehow felt a little awkward now, especially after he just kissed you out of nowhere. As you turned your face towards him again you noticed that the happy expression was no longer on his face. It had turned into a frown and you reached out to grab his hand. You watched his mouth curve into a slight smile as you softly squeezed his hand.
“Are you thinking about the dream?”, you asked.
Dabi locked eyes with you and nodded.
“Yeah. I can’t believe I was so blind and thought the nightmare seedling was you. I’m sorry”
“Hey don’t apologize. I understand”, you reassured and watched as Dabi looked at your hand that he was still holding.
He looked like he wished to be back in his dream world. You felt guilty for pulling him out of his own paradise, but you would do it all over again if it meant keeping him alive.
“How long were you trapped? The nightmare seedling said something about being together with you for a little over 5 months”
“6 Months I think”, he just said and your jaw dropped.
“Six months? No wonder you didn’t want to believe me first.”
You both stayed in silence for a little bit. It seemed to be hard for the both of you to talk about what happened in the dream which was understandable for both sides. Dabi realized that he was back in the real world with you and suddenly had this urge to explain himself to you as if he owed it to you. He wasn’t sure if you wanted to talk about the dream though especially after this awkward silence settled in. But as he saw your face that was practically begging for some kind of explanation, he squeezed your hand to get your attention.
“If there’s something you want to talk about because of the dream just say it”, he said in a rather cold tone.
“It’s nothing. I’m just really happy that you are back”, you said and watched as Dabi frowned.
“You are lying. I know you. You want to know why we were together in my dream don’t you?”
He looked at your joined hands before he pulled you completely onto the bed and placed you with your back against his chest before he wrapped his arms around your waist to pull you closer. You were now sitting with your back to his chest.
“Dabi…”, you whispered.
“Just listen to me and I’ll explain everything, ok?”
You nodded and waited for him to speak. He seemed to gather some more courage to tell you what was going on in his mind since he took a few deep breaths before he started to speak again. He placed his head on your shoulder before he started his monologue.
“I don’t know if you remember this still but you once showed me a book about dreams when we were still searching for a way to dampen your quirk. I remember that in that book it was written that dreams often show us scenarios that we can’t get in real life. I don’t remember the exact way it was described but I think it was something along the lines of ‘dreaming what the heart desires’. I’m pretty sure you get what I mean with that so I don’t need to spell that out for you anymore. You know when that wave hit me and I woke up in that dream I didn’t know I was dreaming. It took me a while to understand that something was wrong and I only noticed it after you had approached me romantically. I knew that you would never do that in real life and for a little while I actually tried to come up with a plan to get out of this nightmare but the fact that all I ever wanted was right there in front of me stopped me from continuing. I’m really sorry that I was blinded that easily but you know it was hard to say no to living in a world where I can touch and kiss you to my hearts content and you actually reciprocate my feelings. I guess I just really wanted to forget that everything wasn’t real. When I saw you, the real you then in the mirror I was confused. My heart was conflicted. I didn’t want to say goodbye to dream you but I also didn’t want to lose the real you. I’m really sorry for all of that”
While you listened to his words your heart had started to hammer harder against your chest. His entire monologue felt like one big confession and your heart could barely handle it. You grabbed one of Dabis hands as he was done talking and placed it on your heart so he could feel your heartbeat.
“You know…I was really scared to lose you when Keigo brought me here. I thought I might never be able to spend time with you again. To make stupid jokes, tease each other or just sit in silence and watch a movie. But most importantly…I was scared that I might never be able to tell you how much you mean to me”, you whispered and noticed how he buried his face in your neck while his hand still rested on your heart.
Dabis heart was now hammering against his ribcage as he realized that you most likely felt the same way for him.
“You really know how to make a man fall for you all over again”, he mumbled against your neck before he placed a soft kiss there.
You noticed your heart stop for a second before it continued beating fast like there was no tomorrow. You couldn’t believe that the both of you never noticed the tension between you that was way more than obviously showing that you both longed for each other. You carefully removed Dabis hands from around you and turned your entire body towards him. As your eyes met, you automatically reached out to cup his cheeks and softly stroked them with your thumbs. Dabi closed his eyes and leaned into your touch.
“God this still feels like I’m dreaming”, he whispered and opened his eyes again.
“You are not. This is real”, you whispered back and moved closer so you could lean your forehead against his.
Dabi softly removed your hands from his face and moved them ever so gently so he could intertwine his fingers with yours. A smile was drawn on his face together with a slight blush. He couldn’t believe that this right here really was reality. You stayed like that for a while until you playfully nuzzled your nose against his before separating.
“I’ll go get a doctor to check up on you and then we’ll get you home, alright?”, you suggested and he nodded still smiling.
Even a blind would be able to see how happy Dabi was right now. He was radiating happiness from ear to ear and you couldn’t resist the urge to softly kiss his cheek before you got up to notify a doctor. It didn’t take you long and you came back to the room with the doctor. He checked Dabis vitals and told you both that he could go home. You only needed to promise to keep an eye on him for the next week so he wouldn’t dive right back into work. You thanked the doctor before he left the room and Dabi instantly got up from his bed.
“Should I call Keigo to get you home?”, you asked and he shook his head.
“I can get home just fine. You’ll accompany me, right?”
You nodded and grabbed one of his hands.
“Of course. I promised to keep an eye on you and I won’t break my promise.”, you said and smiled at him.
Dabi was relieved that you were staying by his side. He wasn’t sure if he would be fine if he was left alone with his own thoughts. Besides that he was also slightly afraid of going to sleep alone since he was worried something might happen. He was sure that if you were around he would feel way safer especially since you could help him with your quirk if really something were to happen. As you arrived at Dabis apartment he opened the door and instantly pulled you into the apartment. He didn’t even dare to let go of your hand as he dragged you into his bedroom with you. As soon as he stepped through the doorframe he let go of your hand and let himself fall onto his bed.
“Exhausted huh?”, you asked and he just nodded.
“Then rest. You’ve been through enough today. I’ll be in the living room if you need me”, you said before you turned to leave the room.
“Wait!”, he called out for you and you stopped in your movement to turn to him.
“Yeah?”
“Can you…I mean…nevermind”, he said and turned his head away.
He suddenly felt like a burden and the words he wanted to say just wouldn’t want to leave his lips. Dabi wasn’t sure if you would even want to stay with him if he asked you to stay with him and sleep in his bed with him so he wouldn’t have to be alone. You noticed that he was thinking really hard about what to say. You closed the bedroom door behind you and walked back over to the bed. Dabi looked up at you with pleading eyes.
“Scoot over”
“You don’t have to if you don’t…”, he began but you didn’t let him finish his sentence.
“Scoot over already”, you emphasized again.
This time he listened to you and moved over on the bed to make space for you to lay next him. You laid down next to him and pulled he covers over the both of you. Dabi looked at you with a face that almost reminded you of an abandoned puppy. You sighed and pulled him towards you. You almost had to force him to put his arms around you. It took a little while for Dabi to understand that it was absolutely fine for him to move closer to you. As soon as he noticed that you were ok with him being this close to you he placed his head on your chest and tightened the grip around your waist. You buried one of your hands in his hair and placed the other one on his back to draw random patterns on.
“Is this what you wanted?”, you whispered and watched him nod slowly.
“Was it so hard to ask?”, you continued to ask and he nodded again.
You couldn’t help but smile. You leaned forwards and softly placed a kiss on his head before looking at him again. He tightened his grip on your waist even more and cuddles closer before he looked at you.
“Tell me if I’m being too much”, he whispered.
You could hear in his voice that he was worried about you pushing him away. This situation was new for the both of you and you were aware that he was afraid to scare you away with his actions.
“I will, no worries”, you answered before you leaned forward to place a kiss on his forehead.
He closed his eyes and smiled. You were glad to see that he was feeling better now. You watched him for his time in complete silence until he began to speak again.
“It still doesn’t feel real somehow. Being able to hold you like this in my arms and not having to worry about you pushing me away. It feels so strange…but in a good way. I like this”, he mumbled against your chest and snuggled even closer, if that was even still possible with how close he was to you already.
“Me too. And don’t think too much about what you’re doing. I will tell you if I don’t like something and don’t hesitate to ask anything. I will do anything to make you feel better”, you explained and heard him slightly chuckle.
“Anything you say?”, he asked in a slightly flirty tone and you shook your head.
“Not like that, perv. Just go to sleep, idiot”
