Notes:

hi, so this is an idea i had while sitting alone on my college campus. it doesn't belong to any fandom but you can apply it to most ships.
not gonna lie, it's a little bit of a vent for me as well rn, just getting out some feelings bc I can't really talk about it much.

Work Text:

The Sun and the Moon are synced.

This is known by every living being to ever inhabit the Earth.

What isn't known by the living beings on Earth, though, is that the Sun is in love with the Moon.

The Sun has loved the Moon since the creation of the Universe.

Maybe it was the way the Moon fell immediately in sync with the Sun.

Maybe it was the way the Moon watched over the people of the Earth when the Sun couldn't.

Maybe it was just the way the Moon reflected the light the Sun gave off, although the Sun did not want to admit that to himself.

Truthfully, the Sun could come up with a million different explanations as to why he had fallen in love with his beautiful counterpart, but not a single one mattered.

Because the Sun could never be with the Moon.

Although completely in sync, two pieces of one beautiful soul, they were destined to always be apart.

The Sun desperately chased the Moon for a long time, to tell the Moon how he loved him.

The day he finally caught up, the day of the first eclipse, the Moon excitedly told the Sun of all his adventures, and all the amazing things he had seen.

And the Sun couldn't do it.

Instead, he listened and told the Moon of all his adventures too.

Then, they wished one another luck and continued on their separate paths.

That was his chance. Why had the Sun not told the Moon how much he loved him? Why had the Sun kept silent? He had been so ready.

Hearing the Moon talk about how much he had loved his adventures around the Earth made the Sun realize that telling the Moon how he felt was... selfish.

Their paths would never be the same. They may work in sync, but their destinies were different. Being together for more than those couple of nights a year wasn't possible. They could never be together the way the Sun wanted.

So the Sun decided to keep his feelings to himself.

It would be cruel to make the Moon feel these feelings too, just to be torn apart again.

The Sun loved him too much for that.

When they reconnected once again, they shared stories and wished one another luck.

The Sun smiled, while holding back tears, as they parted once again.

This was the Sun's great sacrifice.

Two pieces of the same soul, destined to be apart.

And the Sun said nothing, continuing silently with the pain so the Moon could live with adventure and excitement and freedom from the burden the Sun carried.

Destined for an eternity apart.
