When Can I See You Again?

Summary:

After months of being ghosted by your best friend Orange, he texted you out of the blue and asks you to come get coffee with him. You wanted nothing more than to catch up with him, but could things really go back to normal after everything that you've both been through?

Work Text:

It had been a long day at work yesterday and you wanted nothing more than to relax, watch TV, and eat a microwaveable dinner. Just as you were throwing your dinner into the microwave, you heard your phone buzz.

On your way to the couch, you picked up your phone to check who could’ve been texting you at this hour. You were left shocked once you found out who though.

Orange.

It's been months since you've last heard from him, maybe even years! Ever since the incident involving his son, he's been distant from everyone, including you. You knew he was grieving the death of his only son, and you knew it was best to keep your distance, but it still hurt.

But that was a long time ago. Today was going to be different. Orange called you out of the blue to ask if you wanted to have coffee with him that next morning, and you decided to go with him.

But of course, you ended up losing track of time and ended up being late. You dashed around every corner as you raced towards the cafe. As you passed by another corner, you could make out Orange standing around, waiting for your late ass. Orange’s face lit up at the sight of you as you jogged over to him.

“Lo siento!” You yelled as you finally caught up to him, “I didn’t realize the time, I thought I was going to be a few minutes early and-“

You stopped to take a good look at Orange. Saying he looked tired would be an understatement. He was practically hunched over with huge bags under his eyes. Despite his smile, you could tell he hasn’t gotten any sleep since you last saw him.

"You look like shit." You mentally facepalmed. That was the first thing you told him after months of being ghosted?!

Orange chuckled warmly at your words, causing you to flush lightly. You tried to hide your red face by burying it into your hand.

It was no secret that for the longest time, you had a huge crush on Orange. You two had been good friends for a while before you developed an interest in him. Although, you knew you never had a chance at asking him out. While he has many qualities that would make anyone fall head over heels in love with him, you were the complete opposite.

"It's a long story. Maybe I can tell you over a few cups of coffee." Orange interrupted your thoughts.

“Sounds good to me,” you replied, walking over to the cafe’s door and holding it open for Orange. As he passed by you, he patted you on the shoulder.

You were greeted by the familiar smell of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods once you entered the shop. Gods, you’ve missed this place. Orange walked over to the counter and picked up two menus, handing one over to you as he started to scan his.

“Ah, los precios son más altos…” You mumbled to yourself, tapping your chin subconsciously.

“What was that?” Orange asked as he tilted his menu down to look at you.

You poked your head up from your menu to return his gaze.

“It’s nothing.” You chuckled awkwardly to yourself. “Everything’s gotten so much more expensive since we’ve last been here.”

“It happens when the economy goes to shit.” Orange laughed quietly to himself as he looked back down at his menu.

“What are you gonna get?” You decided to ask him.

“Hmm…” Orange squinted his eyes at the menu before tilting his head back and letting out a long sigh in defeat. “I’ll just get the usual: black coffee.”

“You’re such an old man.” You chuckled at the way he glared at you. “I’ll get a Frappuccino and one of those raspberry sweet rolls I’ve heard good stuff about.”

“Your obsession with sweet stuff is gonna kill you one of these days, I swear…” Orange shook his head at you. You playfully rolled your eyes in response.

Hey, I’m here for a good time, not a long time.” You joked.

You both returned your menus to the counter and ordered your food. You quickly found the old booth you both use to sit in while you waited for your drinks and took your places across from each other.

As you both waited, you conversed about how life has been. From the sound of it, Orange’s life has been pretty stressful. You can’t blame the guy. The last time you saw him, his son had recently passed. You tried to cheer him up by telling him jokes and whatever you found funny. It seemed to work as you spotted a smile start to form on his lips after a while.

Not long after, your drinks and dessert arrived and you made quick work of the sweet roll. Now that the both of you have gone silent, you were left with your raging thoughts. There were several questions you wanted to ask him.

Where have you been these past few months?

Why did you ghost me all this time?

What the hell happened to you for you to look so tired?

Are we still even friends at this point?

"Hey, you okay?"

You were snapped out of your thoughts by Orange's question.

"Oh, y-yeah, I'm fine. Why do you ask? What's up?" You tried giving Orange a reassuring smile.

"Well, you were gripping your cup pretty hard there." He pointed out, making you instinctively relax your hold on your cup. "You thinking about something?"

You wanted to tell him what you were thinking more than anything else. You wanted answers.

"Nope!" You sent Orange a reassuring smile in hopes he would drop the subject.

Coward.

"If you say so." Orange went back to sipping on his cup of coffee.

You both finished your drinks pretty quickly, getting out of your seats to throw away what trash you had leftover. Orange held the door open for you as you both exited. You were about to ask him if he wanted to hang out somewhere else, but you were stopped once you felt him place a hand on your shoulder, patting it gently.

"Well, it was nice catching up with you." Orange gave you a small smile before turning away from you and starting to walk away. "I'll see ya later."

Was that it? Was he just going to walk away from you just like that? You watched as Orange got further and further away from you before you decided to speak up.

"Is that it?" You clenched your fists tightly at your sides. "You ghost me for months on end, then out of nowhere ask to get some coffee, and then refuse to tell me where the hell you've been all this time?"

Orange turned back to look at you, confusion painted all over his face.

"I-"

"You can't just do that to me!" You motioned your hands around expressively as you spoke. "I was worried sick about you! After what had happened, I thought you were gonna go off and kill yourself. You completely cut contact with me and didn't tell me why and now you expect me to act like everything is okay?! What the hell is your problem?!"

You could feel tears start to form in the corners of your eyes as you tried to blink them away. Your whole body was shaking from anger. Shoving your hands into your pockets, you turned away from Orange and started making your way down the sidewalk, but not before saying one last thing to him.

"If you're going to do this to me, then why do you even pretend we're friends anymore?"

Suddenly, you were stopped in your tracks when you felt Orange grab your shoulder and pull you back into an empty alleyway, shoving your back onto the wall. Your heart was beating out of your chest as you stared up at his eyes that shun furiously. Now you've done it.

Just as you raised your hands to block any potential damage he might bring upon you, Orange grabbed both of your wrists and shoved them above your head. He gripped both of your wrists in one hand and then used the other to tilt your head up to look at him.

“I missed you.”

You were about to say something but were quickly cut off by Orange slamming his lips onto yours. Your yelp of surprise was muffled as he pulled you closer to him, tilting his head sideways so he could deepen the kiss. Once he pulled away momentarily from you, you were able to take in a few quick breaths.

“I missed you so much.”

Instead of going right back to kissing you, Orange kept his face mere inches from yours, almost like he was asking permission to continue. You gave him his answer by closing the distance and putting your lips back on his. You could feel the desperation in his every movement as Orange slid his free hand behind your head and let his fingers slide through your hair. Once again, he released you from the kiss, allowing you to take a good look at his now tear-stained face.

“I’ve lost everything. I can’t lose you too. You’re all I have left.” Orange cupped your face into his hand, forcing you to look up at him. “Tell me you won’t leave me too. Please, I need you to promise me I won't lose you.”

“I…“ You took a shaky breath in. “I’m not going to leave you, Orange. I promise.”

You were once again brought into a kiss by Orange. This time, however, he was much more gentle with his movements, taking his sweet time savoring your taste. You pulled away from him so you can take a few deep breaths.

"Shit," you heard Orange mumble as he released your wrists from his grip, "I-I, fuck, I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry, I... Are you okay?"

You rubbed the area on your wrists that Orange had held. Thankfully, his hold hadn't been tight enough to leave any bruises. If anything, he just scared the crap out of you from the stunt he pulled.

"It's fine," you told him, peering over at Orange to watch as he nervously rubbed the back of his neck.

"I'm sorry, I..." Orange sighed as he rubbed the bridge of his nose. "I didn't mean to hurt you. That was shitty of me. I just- I shouldn't have..."

"Stop." You held up your hand, silencing him before he could continue. "Yes, what you did was kind of shitty, and while you didn't hurt me, you still scared me."

You could see the way Orange deflated at your words. Instead of letting him continue to apologize to you, you took his hands into yours, squeezing them lightly.

“I missed you too, Orange.” You looked up at him and gave him a small smile.

Orange was caught off guard by you accepting what he did to you. Nonetheless, he returned your smile with his own.

“Now, is there anything else you wanna do while we’re out?” You asked Orange. You watched as he tapped his finger on his chin contemplatingly.

“Well, we could always go for a walk around downtown and see what we can find,” Orange suggested.

“Sounds like a plan.”
