Chapter Text
“You never listen to me! You want to help but you never hear what I say and always think I’m in the wrong!” He screamed at his father, Jake , inside the mauri. “Lo’ak.. You know its been hard with the family going through grief..” HIs father had sighed out and put a hand on his head to relieve the stress. “I know but I’m part of this family too right? Or am I not fit enough for it?” Lo’ak was letting out huffs as tears started to fall down.
“Lo’ak! You know your part of the family, Your fingers identify who you are!” “Well that sucks doesn’t it, being a freak, even almost dying wasn’t enough for you to see me.” Jake’s eyes widened at this, “Do not talk about the war like that Lo’” “I’m not even talking about the war dad! Ao’nung had left me at the reef and I was almost killed by an Akula. But you wouldn’t know would you?’ Tears were running down his cheeks like rain, pattering down on the woven floor under them. Jake had grabbed his arm and Lo’ak winced, Jake moved his arm only to see bruises on his inner chest. “What happened?” Jake said in a soft tone, Lo’ak looked ashamed and looked away. “ I bruised my ribs that day.” Jake’s face turned into a frown. He knew from experience that bruised ribs hurt a lot.
His mother had walked in with his siblings following, Tuk had gone up to Lo’ak and hugged him when she saw he was crying. Kiri just followed her mother and only batted a remorseful eye. Neytiri had caught eye of the bruised chest and went up to them, “Ma’Jake, what has happened to our child?” She said as her fingers ghosted the wide range of bruises. Lo’ak shrugged them off and hid his chest with his arms, “ You would’ve known if you let me speak when I was brought back.” Neytiri just looked at Jake, “ What is he talking about? “ She said while Jake let out a sigh and put on a face of disappointment. “That day with Ao’nung, he got attacked by an akula.” Neytiti gasped and looked back at her son, who was rubbing the remaining tears of his cheek. “So.. that story with the tulkun was true?” Lo’ak looked up at her and nodded. “Why didn’t you tell us?” Tuk had let go of Lo’ak and went to sit by Kiri who was watching the whole thing unroll. “Like I said! You never listen to me! You don’t even want to hear what I say!” He started to walk to the door, being stopped by his fathers harsh hands.
Lo’ak looked back and started to shout out loud, “When was the last time you actually cared? The last time you hugged me was when Neteyam died and even before that the last time was when I was 6!” He had broken out of his grasp. “I wish I wasn’t even in this family.” He said before leaving. Everyone in the mauri was in a shocked state as an uneasy feeling filled the atmosphere. He had ran into the storm outside and went out of view. No one ever saw him again even with the search party.
Until his body came up on the shore.
