The Shy One

Summary:

“Why did you come in here, little girl?” he murmured into my ear.

His behaviour was making me nervous. Though I knew little about Rain, I had always seen him as the shy, quiet ghoul, inherently subservient to the rest of the pack as the newest member.

But this Rain didn’t seem to be shy.

Notes:

I wanted to post this Rain story that I started working on a while ago before getting back to more Mountain content xx

(There’s only going to be 2 chapters for this one, hope my fellow Rain lovers enjoy <3)

Chapter 1: The Black Bass

Chapter Text

I had a bit of a bad habit of being too standoffish.

In truth, it was somewhat of a defense mechanism, something that had evolved as a consequence of the kind of work I did. With the ghouls, I quickly learned that if I didn’t want to be eaten alive (perhaps literally), I couldn’t show any weakness or vulnerability. This meant forcing myself to appear unphased at Swiss’s advances and Dew’s relentless teasing. The only real way to go about it with any sort of conviction was to push them back. I had to pretend not to be intimidated by Mountain’s stature whenever he stood near me, silent and brooding. In truth, I was a little intimidated by the ghouls. I had heard the rumours as most people had and had even on occasion witnessed their strength and speed first hand. But it seemed that as long as I didn’t let my fear show, I was safe.

The only ghoul I really got along with was Aether. He had flirted with me in the past, but in a way that remained sort of an open invitation with no pressure on my part to take anything past a platonic relationship.

Rain was a bit more of a mystery to me. I knew him only as the shy one, the quiet mysterious bassist who mostly kept to himself and rarely caused trouble. He was very polite and friendly with me, always sure to give me a little wave a greeting whenever he passed by me.

I was pretty sure I had only had one real interaction with him, but I couldn’t be entirely sure. At one ritual that I had been assigned to work at, I had started feeling faint in the empty hallway outside the dressing room, having not eaten all day and working non-stop. I had managed to kick the door to the dressing room open before passing out and landing heavily on a pile of clothes. I vaguely recalled the door opening and strong nimble fingers touching my face before I was picked up and carried out of the room. When I finally awoke, I was on my bed in one of the tour buses, the smell of sea salt lingering in the air. I swore I remembered hearing Rain’s voice talking soothingly to me as he carried me to the tour bus, but I dismissed it, figuring I must have been dreaming.

Nearly a month went by before I saw him again.

After a grueling day of working behind the scenes at a ritual in London, I finished cleaning up the dressing room and stepped out into the hallway behind the venue, exhausted and ready to crash for the night. It was a double show, meaning there would be another ritual the following night in the same venue, so we were allowed to keep most of the equipment in the venue rooms overnight instead of lugging everything back to the tour bus.

Taking one last sweeping glance of the dressing room, I stepped out into the hallway to find it deserted.

“Hello?” I called out.

No answer. Everyone else must have already finished with their duties for the night.

I sighed in annoyance that I had been left behind and made my way down the hallway toward the exit. I stopped short in front of the last door, seeing the way it had been left slightly ajar. That was strange.

“Helloooo?” I called out again. And again, I was met only with the eerie silence of the corridor.

I shivered a little. I had the strangest feeling that someone was watching me, but it had to just be my nerves - clearly there was no one else here.

I pushed the door open and flicked the lightswitch, cautiously looking over the entire room to see if anyone was there. It was a small equipment room where we had stored some of the instruments and definitely should have been locked. Rain’s black bass was set on a stand up against the middle of the far wall.

It made me dizzy to think about the wrath we would have received from Copia if he had found out this room had been left open for anyone to just walk into.

I glanced out into the hallway once more, satisfied now that I was truly alone. The black bass guitar caught my eye again, reminded of the countless times I had watched Rain play it over the course of many rituals, always managing to completely enrapture the audience.

I stepped over to it, running my hand over the smooth edges. It had been a while since I had picked up a bass guitar. Fuck it, I thought.

I picked up the guitar and slung the strap over my shoulders, content with the way it instantly felt natural in my hands, like I was being reunited with an old friend.

The steady rhythm of Con Clavi Con Dio filled the tiny space as I began to play, not nearly as well as Rain played it, but not half bad either. Despite not having plugged it into an amp, the room was silent enough for the sound to reverberate clearly through the room.

Satisfied with the way the song came out under my under practiced fingers, I moved on to Prime Mover, finding the riff returning quickly to my memory once again.

I changed octaves, letting myself get lost in the rhythm of the song as I spun around on my heel.

The sight of the ghoul leaning against the doorway was nearly enough to give me a heart attack. I practically jumped out of my skin as my eyes met the dark goggles of the mask, watching my every movement.

“Shit, I’m sorry!” I yelped in surprise.

The ghoul merely kept looking at me as he took a step inside the room.

My mind raced to figure out who it was. Too short to be Mountain, too tall to be Dew. And it wasn’t Aether or Swiss. Which meant…

He reached out a hand to stop me from taking the guitar off. “It’s alright, keep playing.”

I gulped, staring at him in confusion. It was the first time I had ever really heard Rain speak. His voice was nice, soothing, and gentle like a river weaving its way through the trees. But I had heard many things about the ghouls and part of me wondered if it was some sort of trick, something to lure unsuspecting prey into a false sense of safety.

I glanced once more to Rain’s face but was only met with the cool indifference of the mask.

I took a deep breath and picked up where I left off, plucking the strings with shaky fingers as I moved through the familiar riff of the song.

Rain moved silently behind me, taking silent careful steps as he observed me in a casual but focused nature. I didn’t dare to question him, but just kept playing.

I didn’t answer, too focused on trying to keep my hands steady.

He finished making his languid circle around me, stopping at my back. The presence of the ghoul behind me sent the hairs on the back of my neck standing up.

“Can I show you?”

I nodded, relieved that he didn’t seem to be angry after all.

With his left hand, he touched his cool slender fingers to my wrist, gently altering the angle to the fretboard.

“It might feel a little weird to hold that position at first, but it’ll make it easier,” he explained, his breath on the back of my neck.

His other hand around to adjust the position of my fingers resting on the strings, effectively caging me in between himself and the guitar.

“And raise this wrist up a bit like that,” he said.

I complied and began playing the riff again, finding that it actually was easier to move through the motions this way.

“Much better,” he praised. “Good girl.”

Arousal flooded through me without warning at such a high intensity, that I had to bite back a gasp.

Rain stiffened behind me, his breath hitching.

“I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…” he trailed off awkwardly.

My face burned with heat at the realization that he could sense the state he had just put me in.

At a loss for words, I scrambled to take the bass off and quickly placed it back on its stand, avoiding Rain’s gaze.

When I turned back to him, his mask was off and the pupils of his eyes were blown wide.
I had only seen Rain without his mask a handful of times and I was surprised at how quick he was to take it off in front of me just now. He was undeniably the most beautiful of all the ghouls with shaggy dark hair that fell in waves around the smooth curve of his cheekbones and eyes as blue as the ocean.

“Rain?”

“You just… you smell really good.”

“I don’t know what happened,” I said apologetically. I felt bad for embarrassing the normally timid ghoul. “I was just caught off guard.”

“It’s just… I know that - well, humans usually -” He stopped himself, pinching the bridge of his nose as he collected himself. “What I mean to say is, I could help you with that. If you want.”

Was he saying what I thought he was saying?

I had never been with a ghoul before, but I couldn’t say I hadn’t thought about it.

An image of Rain pushing me onto the floor and taking me right then and there flashed through my mind, causing another rush of heat to spread through me, nearly as strong as the first. In the blink of an eye, Rain was next to me again, his face pushed into the crook of my neck as he inhaled deeply. The intimacy of the action made me feel heady and instead of pushing him away, I pressed closer to him, feeling my eyes slip shut.

“Sorry,” he whined out, extracting himself from me. “I couldn’t help myself, you just smell so good.”

Before I could act on better judgment, I moved close to him again and pressed a kiss to the side of his face, just on the corner of his lips. He swiftly turned his head so that his lips were on mine, moving against me without any hesitation as his hands moved to my head to hold me in place.

I whimpered a little at the feeling of the palpable tension finally coming undone, which spurred Rain to grasp me by the waist and pull me flush against him. His mouth continued to work over mine, his tongue swiping over my lips in silent permission. I opened my mouth slightly to allow him to slide his tongue against mine.

I yelped as he suddenly lifted me up by the backs of my thighs, forcing me to wrap my legs around his hips to keep from falling. Even knowing what I knew about the ghouls, I hadn’t expected that slender Rain would be this physically strong.

He pulled his lips from mine, just enough to utter one word.

“Where…?”

“Dressing room,” I managed to gasp out.

The two of us practically crashed into the dressing room, my legs still wrapped around his waist before he threw me onto the couch and climbed over me.

The weight of his body settling over me sent my mind spinning into orbit, my only thoughts of his hands, his lips, his body, and all the things he could do to me now that he had me alone.

I opened my legs for him to settle in, gasping audibly at the feeling of his hardness pressed against me through the layers of our clothes. He rutted against me as he latched his lips onto my neck, sucking at the unmarred skin. It had been ages since I had been with anyone and the thought of coming out of this bruised and marked excited me like nothing else.

Taking advantage of the surge of bravery, I brought my hand down between our bodies and lightly dragged my fingertips over his length, not enough to provide any real relief, but enough to make his breath hitch and his eyes narrow.

“Can I do something for you?” I asked, innocently batting my eyes up at him.

Rain groaned, shifting back so that he was seated on the other side of the couch. “You’re going to be the death of me, little human.”

Taking that as my cue, I got down onto my knees in front of him, settling in between his knees until I was comfortable.

I looked up at him before beginning to undo his zipper. The sight of his eyes blown wide with lust as he watched me encouraged me to pull his pants and boxers down enough to pull out his hardened length.

My underwear became even more damp as I took in the sight of him, already so hard for me.

Making eye contact with him, I ran my tongue up the side, circling it over the sensitive tip before dragging it back down at a pace slow enough to drive him crazy.

“Please,” he begged, desperately. “I can’t take anymore teasing…”

Enamoured by the neediness lacing his voice, I took him into my mouth, sliding my tongue over the taut skin and wrapping my fingers over the base where I couldn’t reach. I focused on forcing myself to breathe through my nose as I took him deeper and deeper, licking up the precum that was starting to drip down.

“Fuck…” he whimpered. “You’re really good at that.”

The praise encouraged me to open my throat to take him even further even though I was already nearly at my limit.

He bucked his hips up into me, making me cough as I fought the urge to gag.

“Shit, shit, sorry,” he mumbled, running a soothing hand through my hair as he forced himself to sit still.

I leaned into his touch as a silent assurance and continued to run my tongue up and down his length while keeping him inside my mouth.

He was surprisingly vocal, whimpering and whining with every stroke and every flick of my tongue. His moans were otherwordly, borderline filthy for the typically quiet ghoul. If I had known he had been holding all of this back, I would have sought him out months ago.

“Wait, wait, wait,” he gasped, pulling me off him. “Not ready to come yet.”

With a surprising amount of strength, he pulled me back up from the floor and set me down so that I was straddling his lap.

“Wanna get you drenched first,” he whispered.

I didn’t think I could get much more wet, but the second his fingers dove into my panties and pressed fervently against my clit, I was proved wrong. I rutted against him, grasping onto his shoulders to hold myself steady as I felt my legs already weakening.

“Can I…?”

I nodded quickly, spreading my legs more to give him better access.

Circling lightly over the sensitive skin a bit, he finally slid one slender finger inside, careful not to be too rough.

“Does that hurt?” he asked.

“God no, please keep going,” I begged.

I leaned forward onto his chest so that he could continue to bite and suck at my neck while sliding his finger in and out of me, working me closer and closer to my climax.

I had never been particularly vocal in bed, but something about the way Rain was hitting all the right spots made it impossible for me to hold back my pants and moans, and hell, Rain didn’t seem to mind.

I wasn’t going to last long with the way he was moving inside me and I wanted to bring him as much pleasure as he was giving me. I curled into his chest and looked down.

His hardness rested stiffly on his stomach, beads of precum dripping down the length of it and pooling into the soft curls at the base. Unable to resist touching him, I sat up and wrapped my hand around him, twisting my wrist as I ran my fingers up and down in a steady motion.

His pace faltered a bit, but he continued pumping his finger in and out of me, his eyes on fire with determination. It felt almost like a race as we locked eyes, the two of us working to bring the other pleasure.

I dove my fingers into my mouth to gather some of my own saliva before going back to stroking him, squeezing a little harder now. He kicked in my hand, a sign that he was about to finish. His eyebrows rose in shock as he realized he was about to lose.

“Ah!” Rain cried out, throwing his head against the back of the couch and biting hard into his own fist as spurts of cum shot out onto his abdomen.

I wanted to give him a minute to recover, but having been so close to the edge myself only seconds ago, I found it difficult to keep still.

Feeling impatient, I whined out of pure neediness, as I rocked against his hand.

“Darling, you’re so…” he faded off into a tempered moan as he saw the desperation in my eyes.

“Don’t worry, love, I’ve got you,” he murmured as he returned to his ministrations, sliding now two fingers in and out of me, picking up speed as my whining grew louder. His thumb continued to work over my clit, pressing harder and faster.

“Oh God, Rain, I -”

My orgasm shot through me before I could finish my sentence, making me go rigid with pleasure as I cried out helplessly and came hard onto Rain’s fingers. My hands twisted tightly into the fabric of his shirt, nearly ripping it.

“Yes, darling,” he said, his eyes lighting up at the sight of me coming on his lap. “That’s it, come for me.”

Shaking with aftershocks, I finally slumped forward onto Rain’s chest as he pulled his fingers from me, shamelessly licking them clean of my slick. He ran a soothing hand over my back as I curled up against him, feeling my entire body go slack.

“Okay love?”

Sated and speechless, I could only nod and croak out a strained “yes.”

We sat like that for several minutes, until I finally gathered the strength to sit up, running a hand through my messy post-sex hair.

“We probably shouldn’t do this again,” I said, biting at my nails. “I mean, I don’t want to cause any problems with Copia. He kind of discourages the Siblings from getting with the ghouls.”

Rain cocked his head at me, a relaxed and calm expression on his face.

“You sure? Dew causes problems all the time, and he seems to get away with it.”

“Mmh, you make a good point.”
