Chapter Text
You’re practically squealing with joy as you watch the Polar Tang ascend after two weeks of traveling through the deep, dark waters. After all the commotion in Wano, it was nice to hide away in the ocean, but now your body is craving the warmth of the sunlight and the cool ocean breeze you’ve been missing so dearly.
Staring out the porthole of your bedroom, you see the waters start to get brighter - a more light blue as you approach the surface rather than the stark black of the depth you’ve grown so used to. There’s not a moment to waste as you rush to your dresser and rummage through your bathing suits before finally picking out a royal blue string bikini that accentuates your luscious curves and just barely covers your full chest.
The bright side of being only one of two girls on this ship is that Ikkaku is only ever in your shared room to sleep, so you pretty much have the whole place to yourself, most of the time at least. You strip out of your robe, hurry into your bikini, grab a book and towel, and spring out your bedroom door and up the stairs towards the upper deck, not caring who sees you near-naked in the halls.
You let out a deep sigh and close your eyes as you open the door to the deck. The sun kisses your cheeks in greeting and you can’t remember the last time you have felt so at ease. As you slowly open your eyes, it takes some time for them to adjust to the brightness. To no surprise, Shachi and Penguin have already mopped off the deck in preparation for this afternoon’s training session.
Stretching out face down on your towel, you kick your legs up, crossing them at the ankles, and open your romance book to where you last left off. Things were just starting to get pretty spicy until you heard a soft creak from behind you.
You turn slightly to see who could be interrupting your precious alone time, when you see golden eyes shoot towards the ocean, scanning the horizon. You could have sworn that just a moment ago, those same eyes were lingering on your backside, barely covered by your bikini.
“Captain!” You shout, turning onto your side to fully face him. “The weather is beautiful, why don’t you come join me?”
Trafalgar Law is standing in the doorway in low slung jeans and an unbuttoned shirt revealing his toned, tattooed chest. His usual hat is nowhere to be seen as the wind rustles his raven-black hair. You’re a little bit ashamed as your eyes roam freely over his revealed upper body and the ink curving around his golden skin.
Ever since you joined the Heart Pirates 6 months ago, you have always been a shameless flirt with your handsome captain. Loving how his cheeks turn a light pink whenever you brush your hand over his, watching his eyes widen ever so slightly whenever you wear one of your many scandalous outfits, or the look of pure shock on his face whenever you make a particularly lewd comment.
But after what happened in Wano, when he went up against Kaido and Big Mom, and you thought there was a good chance that you would never see him again, things began to change. When you finally saw him after the battle, your heart bloomed and shattered all at once because he was alive, but he was hurt. It made you sick to your stomach to think that if your Captain had been seriously injured, he could have lost his life considering how far away Chopper had been at the time. A shiver snakes its way down your spine at the thought.
That was when you decided to ask Law to train you to become his assistant, so that if anything ever happened to him again, you would be able to fix him up. So that he has someone looking after him the way he looks after everyone else. To say you were shocked when he agreed was an understatement. Though he most likely agreed because he had no idea you're intentions for learning medicine were to save him, should he ever need saving. He hadn't asked, so you hadn't offered that bit of information. He had simply nodded and left a note at your door that night stating that lessons would be held in his exam room every morning at 6:00.
After a moment, his eyes fall upon you, now sitting up on your knees facing him. You bat your eyelashes at him flirtatiously and something in his eyes flash as he gives you a quick once-over. You hardly would have noticed if you were not so deeply infatuated with this grumpy captain of yours.
“Y/N, already relaxing so early in the morning?” Law says with a hint of sarcasm, his eyes fixed on yours and not daring to linger anywhere else, ever the professional he is. You shift a little under his intense stare.
“I finished my studies after our lesson this morning,” you reply with a slight smile, “I’m all ready for the test tomorrow, though I might have a few questions on specific plants if you have some free time later.” As you’ve been training to become Law’s assistant, you have taken a liking to tonics and potions and are primarily focusing your studies on medicine.
He quietly nods his head once, black hair shifting in the breeze. Not only do you find him attractive on the outside, but being so close to him these past two weeks has made you appreciate his quiet demeanor, finding it very attractive at how well he seems to listen, and how he also has a calming effect on you that no one else has ever had before. You are an open book with him, yearning for him to one day open up to you as well.
“Good,” he says, clearing his throat, “We can discuss after training.” And with a quick dip of his eyes, he turns and walks back into the Polar Tang, the door falling shut softly behind him.
You purse your lips, now sitting back on your heels. While training to be his assistant, he has become a bit more chatty. Well, as chatty as Law could be, you suppose. But he had just been so short with you, which was not unordinary, just a little unexpected.
You roll onto your back, no longer interested in the sexy scene about to take place in your book and close your eyes as you let the sun wash away two weeks of the dark, blue ocean.
