Chapter 1: chapter 1

Chapter Text

"Yeah mom schools great I guess.." you mumble, browsing over your homework on your laptop's screen. Your eyebrows furrowed as you come across a difficult problem.

"Are you sure sweetie?" your mom's voice comes out from your phone's speaker in a worries tone. "I'm just so worried that I had to send my sweet baby off to college again.."

You let out a deep sigh through your nose but smile softly at your mother's words. "Yeah I'm okay mom don't worry, I'm just a bit stressed with school is all.." You said, closing your eyes and leaning back onto your chair, looking up at the concrete ceiling of your dorm room.

"Okay my dear, don't burn yourself out too much okay? Take breaks when you need to and make sure you're eating okay? I'll send some money over so treat yourself today to a nice dinner." Your mom says in a cheery tone as the sound of a ping from your phone enters your ears, looking to see that your mom had sent some money.

"Aw mom you don't have to.." you said, smiling softly secretly thinking about what you were gonna go get after this call.

"No worries!" your mom said, "I want to make sure that you're eating well okay? I know you're probably busy right now so I'll let you go for now. Make sure you're using the money for food and nothing else! I love you see you later!"

You chuckled at your mother, "Thanks mom. I love you too." you spoke hearing her hum in acknowledgement before she ended the call, the sound go the beep going off as you let out a deep, long sigh that you didn't know you were holding in.

"Hey are you sure you're okay?"

You turn your head to your roommate, Cherry who had pushed herself off of her desk, sitting on her computer chair looking at you with concern.

"Yeah.." you mumbled scratching your head in discomfort, a grimace forming on your face.

"You're not gonna tell your mom?" Cherry asked.

"Nah.. She'd freak out.. and I don't wanna make her worry more than she does already." You sighed.

"Hm.. I guess but you know I'm here for you right?"

"Yeah." you turn to her, "Thanks Cherry."

In all honesty you were not okay. You were totally far from. This week had been an absolute living nightmare for you.

This was your second year at NCT U, aka Neo Culture Tech University. One of the top tech schools that you had been accepted to with a scholarship. As a graphic design major you were still trying to fulfill your general classes before going onto your major classes. And not only were the classes incredibly hard, the professors that you had just weren't the best at teaching either.

And the slice that took the cake had happened just the other day.

Your boyfriend Johnny Suh

cheating on you.

It would've been fine if it was just some random girl but the universe just had to add a little cherry on top.

He cheated on you with your best friend,

Yeowoo Seo.

It's not like they didn't know each other, it's not like you guys went to the same high school together. But somehow, the stars were perfectly aligned that it just had to be your best friend that you saw kissing your boyfriend at a Frat party. And you wouldn't had known if your roommate, Cherry hadn't taken a photo and hadn't shown you.

It's been a week since the incident and a week since you had broken up with Johnny. But it's still been in the back of your mind. Although you present yourself as fine, the usual questions continue to arise in your head.

'Was I not enough?'

'Is Yeowoo prettier than me is that why?'

'Why did it have to be Yeowoo?'

'How long had it been going for?'

So many thoughts ran through your head that for awhile you just sat on your bed, marinating in your thoughts while the weekend went by, but now it was a school day. So you got your big girl pants and headed off to class, cause no boy was going to stop you from getting your education, especially with a full ride scholarship.

Hell no. No boy was worth it.

Especially Johnny Suh.

"Come on let's go get dinner." Cherry said as she got off her seat and headed to her closet to grab a jacket. "Your mom sent you money right? Save that for later I'll treat you tonight." She gave you a soft smile.

"Thanks Cherry but you don't have to." You mumbled getting up to also get a jacket.

"I'm serious, I can't stand to watch my roommate mopping around in an empty stomach." She said, grabbing the door handle and pulling it open as you two head out.

"Yeah but still.. I can use my own money.."

"I'm serious, let me treat, I got a slight raise at my job so it's no biggie promise."

You let out a deep sigh. Knowing your roommate, she wasn't going to take no for an answer so you caved in as the crisp cold air nipped your cheeks.

"Damn." She said as you two continued to walk until you came across the bright yellow light of the restaurant. You grabbed the door handle and pulled open the door, letting your roommate in first as you followed after. Taking a table closest to you and sitting down across from one another. "Not gonna lie (Y/n) I never really liked Yeowoo.."

"Yeah.." you sighed as someone came by to place down the menus and waters. "Thank you." you said giving the waiter a smile as they walked away.

"Like I felt like she just used you as some sort of pet." Cherry grumbled, puffing out her cheeks as your eyes scanned through the menu.

"hm.." you hummed. "Idk we've just known each other for a long time... But yeah I guess she wasn't the greatest of friends.."

"Ugh it just makes me pissed." Cherry turned to you, "From now on I'm your best friend now okay?"

You looked back up at her, a determined look on her face and you could've sworn you saw sparkles in her eyes. "Sure." you smiled in response, a huge smile on Cherry's face, happy with your answer.

"Come on let's eat to our heart's content! Don't worry (Y/n) I'll take care of you from now on."

You grabbed your bag filled with your shower supplies and a towel hanging around your neck. "I'm gonna go shower Cherry." you said looking back at your roommate who was currently on the bed watching some videos.

"Okay! Have a good one!" She said, giving you a thumbs up in acknowledgment as you pulled open the door, placing the door stopper in-between the door and the wall, heading out to walk towards the bathroom.

'I guess Cherry did bring up a good point.' you thought to yourself, opening the bathroom door and walking towards a shower stall. 'I wonder why we were still friends, even after how horrible she treated me..'

Slowly turning on the faucet, letting the warm water travel onto your hands until it overflowed, helping you adjust to the temperature until you fully let yourself be submerged under the shower head.

'I guess she was the only one I could lean on..' water kept dripping from your head to the tiled bathroom floors.

Yet, you couldn't help but relive those memories of you two playing in the grass and chasing after one another as both of your mothers laughed from a distance. Yeowoo was a bitch. But she was your first ever true friend before she was a bitch. It just took one final blow for you to recognize that.

And it just had to be your boyfriend.

It wasn't like Yeowoo was single. She has a boyfriend too. And you were pretty sure that He knew about it as well, but you were just never able to get to know him very well. Apparently Yeowoo was never able to find the time to have you guys meet up, but Cherry thought it was because Yeowoo was jealous that you might steal her.

But I guess she was just projecting.

So hypocritical.

Finishing up your shower, you dry yourself inside the shower stall before you dry off your shower bag, wiping the bottles of shampoo and conditioner. Placing your clothes back on you have the towel hang around your neck as you open the door of the shower stall and walk out towards the sink.

'I look like...' you stare at yourself in the mirror, placing your shower caddy down on the sink, 'like a mess...' you think to yourself.

'I really need to get my shit together...' you turn your head from side to side. 'I can't just let some boy ruin my college experience it would be such a waste. But..'

Your pursed your lips tightly. Johnny was your first love, your first kiss, your first boyfriend. He was supposed to be your college sweetheart. When he confessed to you and had asked you out your first year of college, it came to you as a surprise considering how different your personalities were and how you guys weren't that close in high school. But the way he showered you with love and affection every day you were together just melted your heart in a way you had never felt before.

And all of that, the 8 months you had been together were down the drain. All the words he said, all the gifts he would send, the dried up flower petals you had been saving for sentimental purposes from the flowers he would give to you every time you guys went on a date. Every kiss, every hug. All just shattered in one photo. It's as if all that was said and done meant nothing.

And even now, after the breakup, he didn't once bother to call or text you, even going as far as to ignore you whenever he saw you. And the sly look that your best friend always gave you whenever you walked past her.

She probably thought, 'How pathetic.'

Tears welled up slightly in your eyes but you caught yourself. To lose the two most important people in your life in a split second left you in shambles.

Thank God you had Cherry.

Letting out yet another deep sigh for the hundredth time in a row, you picked yourself up, grabbed your things and headed towards the door to exit the bathroom and walked the long hallway back to your room.

Just as you were about to grab the handle of your dorm room door you felt yourself get slightly pushed from behind.

"Oh I'm so sorry." You hear a voice from behind.

"Oh it's oka-"

Your eyes widen as you turn around to look who it was.

Wet blonde hair, a towel around his neck, wearing a black compression shirt and sweatpants. The smell of men's shampoo fills the area around you, telling you that they too had also just come back from a shower.

Their eyes also widen as you guys both look into each other's eyes.

You gulp nervously as you recognize who it was. They too seem to know who you are too.

Your ex best friend, Yeowoo's now ex-boyfriend.

Jeno Lee.
