Work Text:
The clock on Vegas’s phone shows that its an hour before it strikes midnight. Pete sighed lightly, looking at the peacefully asleep Vegas right beside him. He felt like he has never been happier ever since he and Vegas got together for almost four months, but part of him always push that happiness away and Vegas knows about it.
“Pete, no matter what you are facing right now, I will always be right beside you. You can tell me whenever you feel down, whenever you can’t sleep, I don’t care if its 3 in the morning, I’m willing to hear about everything that’s inside your mind, alright? I want to fight your battles too.”
Those words has been repeating over and over again ever since Pete couldn’t sleep. His mind is too loud and too hazy, but he wasn’t thinking of anything. Carefully slipping out from Vegas’s arm, he heads to the kitchen and cook a pack of ramen, which reminds the comfort that Vegas always radiates. “This isn’t going to comfort me. I need some fucking coffee.”
The Apple Watch that Vegas bought for him on his birthday is wrapped around his wrist, he stares at the watch as he remember the words from Vegas.
“Happy Birthday Pete, I bought you an Apple Watch and an iPhone. I know how you like to take late night walks alone, so every time I wake up and you’re not there, I can just go to where you are and silently follows you to make sure you’re safe during your night walk.”
Vegas had made a lot of effort in order to keep his lover safe. No matter where Pete is, no matter who he is with, Vegas will find a way to make him safe no matter what.
He took a jacket from the closet and kiss Vegas’s forehead before leaving to buy a coffee from the nearest cafe that he could find.
The walk felt painfully slow, but he enjoys with especially with the song that is playing through his earphone. He did indeed felt so sleepy, but he knows that he couldn’t sleep. “Fucking hell— why the fuck I can’t sleep? I just want a fucking sleep, god fucking damn it.” The frustration that fills his head were enough to make him cry. He squat down on the spot and held his hair so tight, wanting the mind to be silent even for a second.
Upon arriving the coffee shop, he just order the simple iced latte and head straight to the park, where there’s barely any people at a time like that. It was unexpectedly cold that night, but all he’s wearing is a pair of short, a thin shirt and a sport jacket. “Great... Vegas is going to be mad for wearing such thin clothes.”
“Pete, I told you to wear warm clothes whenever you’re going out at night, I promise you that I’m not mad, but I’m just really worried and I don’t want you to feel unwell later.”
Remembering those words, he felt a slight fiery anger up his chest. “Why the fuck would he care, its me who’s getting cold not him, honestly what the fuck.”
As soon as he realised what he has said, he came back to his sense. “No, he wants to care cause he loved me. I should— no honestly I fucking hate him, fucking— ugh!”
On the other side, Vegas woke up again to an empty bed. “He must’ve been on a late night walk again.” He reach to his phone and look at the location, its the usual park that he always head to. Out of the blue, the sky were thundering and the rain came pouring down. “Fuck— I should go right now.”
He wasn’t sparing any involuntary thoughts in his mind, he grab the motorcycle key and immediately went to the park. “Pete, please tell me you’re under any shelter, if you don’t I swear to god I’m not letting you go on a night walk again without me.”
As he arrived at the park, he saw the only one figure sitting in front of the lake. “Shit, Pete.” He run towards the figure and he could sense something bad was going on. He slow his step toward him and he saw the side eye stare. That stare. Its going really bad this time.
“Pete? Let’s go home please, okay? Its pouring down so hard, I’ll get you warm, alright?” Trying to deal with Pete’s split is the first step to bring him home. “Get the fuck away from me, Vegas. Why the fuck do you care?”
He has to admit, those words did hurt him but he knows that Pete is not himself at the moment. “I care because you’re important to me, Pete. You changed me into a better person than before.”
“Why the fuck aren’t you leaving me, then? After all, am I not just your pet?”
Vegas could feel a lump in his throat, the tingling sensation on his face, but he tries to hold it back. “No, Pete, you’re a human, and you’re my person.” A single streak of tear fell off from Vegas’s cheek, trying to convince him that he did genuinely love him as a person.
It was a long pause in the middle of their conversation. During this time, Vegas took the chance to slowly get closer to Pete and kneel beside him. He was hesitant to hold him, but he just softly tap on the younger’s shoulder. “Pete...?”
“I’m— I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, please Vegas, I’m sorry!” Violent sobs filled the park mixed the sound of the pouring rain. “Its okay, Pete. You’re okay now, no one can hurt you, alright? I’m right here.”
“I didn’t mean it, I’m so sorry.” He just kept crying while Vegas hug him tightly. “Let’s go home and get you warm, alright?”
“No, fuck you Vegas! Fuck you, I fucking hate you, I hate you so fucking much!” Pete try to push Vegas away but the latter just kept hugging him tightly with his cheeks full of warm tears. “Pete, please, I need you to be with me, I’m begging you.” He softly spoken the words into his ears, attempting to bring back the real Pete.
“Fuck, fuck fuck— I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” He felt a tight fist on his back, making him cry even more. “Its okay Pete, let’s go home, please?”
He felt a nod movement on his shoulder, they slowly got up and hop on the motorcycle, heading back to their condo.
For a slight moment, Vegas find it so hard to deal with Pete’s condition, but its the consequence that he’s willing to take to care and protect the person that he love. This happened a lot, but each time, it gets harder as Pete’s borderline develop more and more. He just need to find a way for Pete’s condition to wind down, by building the trust that Pete needs.
Later when they arrived at the condo, Vegas help him get into the warm bath, massaging his head while washing the hair. “Are you feeling any better?”
Pete shook his head, and it was expected. “I don’t remember what happened, but I feel so bad. I’m so sorry, Vegas.”
Part of Vegas is thankful that Pete didn’t remember about the hurtful conversation, but part of Vegas wants to talk about it with him, which means he has to remember about it. But that’s a talk for another day. For now, he’s just glad that Pete is safe right in front of his eyes.
“Its okay, I promise you that everything is okay. Even if its not, I will do anything to make it okay.”
Pete looked down and silent tear fell down his cheek. But Vegas could figured from his shoulder’s movement. He rinse the hair and dry them, preparing to go to bed. “You go to bed first, I will bring you something, alright?”
He nodded as he climb onto the bed, slipping into the comfortable duvet. Vegas came back with a glass of chocolate milk. “Have this first so you can feel better, alright?”
Pete’s love for Vegas just keep increasing, and he’s thankful for it. “Do you wanna talk about it? If you’re comfortable, of course.”
“I... I just couldn’t sleep and I hate it when I can’t sleep because there’s nothing I can do about it. All I want is one peaceful sleep, you know? I haven’t had that in a long time. I really miss sleeping.”
Vegas who is sitting on the other side of the bed, just smile and caress the soft cheek. “Do you want me to help you sleep?”
“I don’t even know if its going to work.” Pete’s doubt is one of Vegas’s enemy, cause he keep doubting about every single thing in his life.
“Let’s try, alright?” He took the glass from Pete’s hand and went to put it in the kitchen. Once he’s back, he put on his body spray and told Pete to change into one of his shirt. “Are you sure? This is your favourite white shirt.”
“Yes, Pete. My clothes is your clothes. Don’t worry about it.” He softly smile as he climb onto the bed and wait for Pete to done changing. “Alright, come here.” He open his arms widely and Pete immediately put his forehead against Vegas’s chest. “Just like that, I’m here to help, alright?”
He keeps softly caressing Pete’s hair while placing his kisses on his head. He could felt Pete’s tear on his shirt, but he just keep hugging him. “You know, I used to dislike your smell cause its so strong but its weird that it brings me comfort each time you hug me.”
Vegas replied with nothing but a smile. Soon, he felt a slight snore coming out from the younger. He adjust his position a little, just so he could meet with the peaceful sleeping face.
“Remember that I’m right here, I will protect you from the world."
