New Clothes

Summary:

Daniel doesn’t care if Johnny was going on a date. Or does he?

Notes:

Finally wrote another one shot for this series! Sorry for the wait. I decided to keep it short and sweet :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Green or blue?” Johnny asked whilst dropping a shopping bag by Daniel.

“What now?”

“Or maybe a t-shirt.”

Daniel looked up and was pleasantly surprised to see Johnny, freshly showered after training, clad in just jeans and sneakers. Wait, he wasn’t wearing sneakers he was wearing boots that looked brand new. And black jeans, Daniel couldn’t remember seeing Johnny wear anything other than blue ones.

“Night out?“ Daniel asked whilst trying to sound casual whilst dragging his eyes away from Johnny’s naked upper half. This evening he had hoped to share a beer or two whilst going over how today's class went, but if Johnny had other plans who was he to complain?

“Something like that.” Johnny pulled out a shirt from the bag, a deep green button down that he unfolded and held up to his body. It still had the tags attached. “Does this color suit me?”

“Yeah it does—”

“Or how about this one?” Johnny threw the shirt at Daniel and pulled out another one, navy this time, and held it up in the same manner.

“Even better,” Daniel said without thinking. “I mean, blue it’s a good color for you.” He omitted mentioning how it complimented Johnny’s eyes.

Johnny disappeared into the bathroom and reappeared a few moments later with the blue shirt on and tucked in with his hair combed neatly, he also smelt good. Really good.

Daniel felt a pang of something, he was unsure what of, but he knew that he enjoyed the time they were spending together outside of class and if Johnny was starting to see someone that would leave less time for them to hang out. It was dumb and selfish, he knew that, but he couldn’t help it.

“Sure I don’t look stupid?” Johnny said as he ticked the shirt in. “I don’t look like a try hard nerd do I?”

“You look fine,” Daniel smiled, he should’ve left it at that but he just couldn’t help himself prying for more information. “So who’s the lucky lady?”

“Huh?” Johnny raised an eyebrow at him.

“You’re dressed up and nervous. Must be someone special.” Daniel did his best to sound nonchalant, but now Johnny was grinning at him. “What?”

“Are you jealous, LaRusso?”

“Give over Johnny.” Daniel rolled his eyes. “I was just trying to make friendly conversation. That’s it.”

“Of course. So what if I told you it wasn’t a lady and it’s a guy?”

“Oh…” Daniel wasn’t how sure to respond. He wasn’t sure if Johnny was coming out to him and if he was why did that make Daniel’s heart speed up. “Then I’d say that he’s a lucky guy.” Daniel stood up and looked Johnny up and down before proceeding to tuck in his shirt at the sides where Johnny had messed up.

Johnny’s smug smile suddenly turned into a sincere one. “You mean that LaRusso?”

“Mean what?”

“That he’d be a lucky guy.” Johnny poked his chest in disbelief. “Dating me?”

“Yeah,” Daniel returned the smile. Part of him couldn’t believe he was saying this. “I do, you shouldn’t sell yourself short.”

“Thanks,” Johnny said, his voice barely a whisper. Then he stepped back once Daniel had finished with his shirt. “I’ll let Bobby know just how lucky he is.”

“Bobby?”

“It’s his birthday this evening. He’s having a bunch of people around. Thought I’d make the effort as he said Robby might be there, the two have always been close seeing as Bobby is his godfather.”

“Ahh…” Daniel felt his cheeks starting to burn up. “That makes sense. We’ll have fun and I hope everything goes okay with Robby.”

“Thanks man, so do I.” Then Johnny paused, an expression came over him as if a lightbulb had just turned on inside his head. “You can come if you want. Bobby wouldn’t mind.”

Daniel thought about it for a second, he would like to go because if anything he didn’t have anything else to do this evening, but he knew that he couldn’t. He didn’t want to get in the way of Johnny possibly reconciling with Robby.

“I’m going to have an early one tonight but thank you.”

“Suit yourself LaRusso.”

Daniel watched Johnny as he gathered his belongings. “Hey,” he said as the man was about to leave. “Beers next Friday after class?”

“Sure man. You know I keep that fridge fully stocked.”

“I know,” Daniel chuckled. “I mean do you want to go out?”

“Oh.” Johnny’s eyebrows shot up. “You asking me on a date, LaRusso?”

Daniel rolled his eyes and yet still felt his cheeks burning up. “Of course not.”

“Shame, I needed an occasion to wear the green shirt.” Johnny winked. “Friday works. Have a nice evening LaRusso.”

“You too Johnny.”

When Johnny left Daniel helped himself to the beers from the fridge. It wasn’t until he got to the second one he realised he was still grinning like an idiot and just like that he went red again.

Notes:

When I first started writing these it was when Johnny and Robby’s relationship was rocky to say the least, so I’m sticking with that and will eventually get to the current timeline :) thanks for reading!
