Chapter Text
“Mafuyu doesn’t like me that way…” Ena complained and sulked beside Mizuki. They were in the SEKAI, resting for a while before their usual meeting at 25 o’clock starts.
“Did the both of you get into an argument again?” Mizuki asked.
“It’s just… that dumbass doesn’t even seem like she’s interested in me at all. What I want to say is, I just feel like this is all so one sided.”
Ena understood that Mafuyu has trouble showing how she feels, no thanks to that terrible mother of hers for manipulating and suppressing Mafuyu since young. Ena is trying her best to not let it get to her whenever Mafuyu doesn’t say “I love you” back, or how she always had to initiate any romantic gestures like hand holding or kissing or hugging.
Maybe Mafuyu just accepted her confession out of pity.
There’s a festival coming up soon and Ena had her eyes on a really pretty yukata online for a long time. She planned to buy it because she wanted to look good for Mafuyu, but now she didn’t even feel like seeing her anymore. Anyways, Mafuyu already said she had to attend extra tuition classes to maintain her academic performance. Oh well, Ena thinks that Mafuyu wouldn't give two shits about how she looked either. Whatever. She’s gonna buy it just for herself to wear. And she’s gonna drag someone else along.
“Mizuki, come to the Shibuya Festival with me okay?”
“What, why me-“
“I’ll buy you a cute outfit too.”
“My, how generous! I wouldn’t pass up such a magnanimous offer!”
After thinking it through, Ena texted Mafuyu about how she wanted a break from their relationship. 10 minutes later, Mafuyu replied with “if that’s what you want, then ok”.
Seriously? That’s it? She didn’t even ask why! Ena wants to yell at Mafuyu through text, but even she’s getting tired of being mad at the lack of response for everything. So she just tossed her phone aside and buried her head into her pillow.
The pillow was drenched when she woke up the next afternoon.
Let’s take a break from each other.
Mafuyu was studying at her desk while thinking about what Ena texted a week ago. By “take a break”, Mafuyu assumed that Ena meant she didn’t want to talk to her or see her for a while. Mafuyu didn’t know how long this break was going to last, and while she enjoyed some time alone, she found herself starting to wonder how Ena was doing in this whole week without the usual texting and calls.
Suddenly, she saw movement in the corner of her eye.
Behind the pile of books infront of her, there was a shadow.
She moved the books away.
“Eh..?”
It was a tiny kitten? No wait, a bipedal cat? She looked even more closely. The “cat” was wearing a black dress with a white collar and a yellow-black ribbon tie. It was no bigger than her palm.
“This.., thing looks like Ena.” Mafuyu murmured to herself. A Ena with cat ears.
The “thing” wasn’t really happy with how mafuyu addressed her. “Ena” ran towards her hand and bit her finger. It didn’t really hurt. Interesting.
“Ena…”
The kitty looked at her again. She hugged Mafuyu's hand.
The sight made Mafuyu’s heart warm.
Another week has passed and the festival has arrived. Ena and Mizuki went around the festival and took lots of pictures. Ena posted some of the best ones on her Instagram.
Festive season♡
A minute later she already had 100 likes with some comments.
“enanan always so pretty”
“❤️❤️❤️”
“goddess”
A notification popped up on Mafuyu’s phone. She glanced at it and saw that Ena has posted something new. She doesn't really use any social media that much, and Ena was the one that told her to make an account on Instagram so that she can follow her…
Ena went to the festival today with Mizuki.
Mafuyu swiped left to see more pictures, and there was a particular picture that made her heart flutter just a little.
Next, she went to the comment section and saw strangers online all complimenting her. Mafuyu knew that Ena has quite a huge number of followers, so there were quite a number of comments, even some saying wanting to date Ena, or marry her.
“Ah…” Mafuyu didn’t realise it, but she’s holding onto her chest now. Why was she feeling so unpleasant?
And then she felt a warmth near her other hand.
It’s Little Ena. She disappeared when morning came, and Mafuyu could feel her chest feeling lighter when she saw her again. Mafuyu let her climb onto her hands and she brought her closer.
“Ena… are you the real Ena? If I talk to you, will the human Ena hear me?”
Little Ena shook her head. Mafuyu thinks that she can’t speak either. But at least she knows what was Mafuyu talking about.
“… I wonder what she’s doing. She hasn’t texted or spoke to me privately ever since she said that she wants to take a break.”
Little Ena’s ears twitched and she ran towards Mafuyu’s phone. Was she telling Mafuyu to text Ena first?
What should Mafuyu say? She looked at the last texted messages. The chat was just dead after “if that’s you want, then okay”.
Ena. What are you doing?
Plain and simple text.
Mafuyu stayed online for about five minutes waiting, because usually Ena replies very fast.
But she hasn’t. So Mafuyu puts her phone aside and went to brush her teeth. Surely… she will after she comes back.
But still nothing.
Now that Mafuyu thinks about it, Ena often asked what Mafuyu was doing back then.
An hour passed and there was still no reply.
It’s not possible that Ena was sleeping at 11pm at night, right?
Mafuyu deleted her message.
Little Ena meowed at her, as if asking “why did you do that?”
“I think she’s busy. I don’t want to bother her.”
