Summary:

A flight attendant decides she wants a change of pace. When she gets what she is looking for, she wonders if it was more than what she bargained for.

Notes:

This AU has been in the back of my mind for awhile and will be my first multi chapter fic. I already wrote several chapters and have most of the story planned out. There will be no spy and assassin elements nor heavy plot. Just wanted to practice writing a simple story with fluff with a tiny little bit of conflict. Not sure if this will be anyone’s cup of tea. Honestly, I’m just looking for an excuse to write TwiYor.

I’m no expert with the ins and outs of air travel and regulations, a few google searches did help though. I tried to keep plot holes to a minimum, otherwise the story itself would be much, MUCH longer and I lack the mental capacity and talent to write that much. Thank you in advance for reading and any feedback would mean the world to me.

Chapter Text

Yor was currently going through a myriad of different emotions. Yuri had called a few weeks ago wanting to share some exciting news. He had gotten a big promotion at work and was now a diplomat for Ostania, one of the youngest in the the country’s history. To say that she was proud of her younger brother didn’t come close to how she truly felt. It seemed that all her sacrifices had truly paid off.

The siblings had agreed to meet up for dinner at a restaurant to celebrate. Her mind began replaying the events of that night…

“I can’t thank you enough for everything, Sis. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you.” Yuri said as he placed his hand on his chest. It felt as if it was about to burst with all the love he had for his sister.

“Oh Yuri, you are here because of your hard work and own perseverance. Seeing you safe and happy was more than enough for me.” She couldn’t help get a little misty eyed seeing how much her little brother had grown and accomplished. If she had to do it all over again, she would without question.

“Thanks, Sis, but as much as I am grateful for this new opportunity, I do have some concerns. The job itself will require me to travel a lot, which means we won’t be able to see each other as often. Next week I will be going to Hungaria, from then, who knows where they’ll send me. I would hate to leave you alone.”

“You don’t have to worry about me, Yuri. My job keeps me plenty busy. Besides, I can take care of myself.” She told him, hoping that would be enough to ease his worries.

As the evening progressed, more reassurances were made as well as promises to ‘stay safe’ and to ‘meet up’ whenever their schedules allowed.

When she arrived home after dinner, her mind had become a whirlpool of different thoughts. After her brother had told her about his new job, it made her realize that he was no longer the little boy she was responsible for. Right before her eyes, he had grown to become an independent and smart young man who was ready to take on the world.

So she thought, why can’t I do the same?

Now that Yuri was on his own, she felt as if she had to find a new drive. A new motive. Something for herself. She felt that the time had finally come to be a little selfish for once. The thought alone made her heart beat a little faster.

Walking down memory lane, she thought back to the very little they had growing up and how difficult it was trying to get by with just the bare necessities. This meant a roof over their heads and at least one meal a day. Everything else was a luxury.

Thankfully the odd jobs she worked at had given her the chance to meet different people and form interesting connections, and one of those had been the CEO of a flag-carrier airline called Garden Air. At just shy of nineteen, she was officially their employee. Working as a flight attendant had given her life a sense of stability. Gone were the days where where she had to work multiple jobs just to make ends meet. With the salary she was now earning, she was able to provide Yuri with a more comfortable life.

Upper management had taken a liking of her right away due to her charismatic personality. She worked hard, the passengers spoke highly of her, but most importantly, no one could rival her strength. She made quick work of putting away and removing luggage and suitcases from the overhead bins which reduced aisle traffic and delays by half. Simply put, she was an exceptional employee.

Because of this, Garden Air was very accommodating with Yor. They had always scheduled her to be on short flights during the day so she could make it back home and take care of her brother in the evenings. As Yuri got older, she felt less guilty about leaving him alone for longer periods of time, so she asked to work more hours and they gladly obliged.

When she finally had made up her mind about what the next step in her life would be, she approached Garden’s management to discuss her change of plans. They really weren’t too eager to let her go, going as far as offering an increase in pay and better benefits all to make her stay. She had kindly turned it down in favor of exploring new opportunities. It wasn’t as if she was unhappy with them, she just wanted a change of scenery.

They ended up giving her a small farewell dinner, a wonderful letter of recommendation and a check in a very generous amount as a thank you for all her years of hard work.

Coming back to the present, Yor looked down at her small carry on, currently spread open on her bedroom floor. She organized her toiletries in a small pouch, a change of clothes, spare uniform and other necessities.

After nine years of loyal service with Garden Air, she had closed a chapter in her life that had changed her for the better and was looking forward to see what new experiences would await her.

She closed her bag and placed it by the door. Tomorrow would be her first day under her new employer, Wise Airways.
