Chapter Text

Hyunjin wasn’t unloved growing up, far from it in fact. But that didn’t change how difficult it was to grow up transgender after coming out at only 11 years old. He had known for years that his body did not match who he was and that thought sent him to sleep in tears. Hyunjin loved his parents dearly, and they loved him. They tried so hard to understand him, they coped with the name change and pronoun changes but couldn’t cope with him changing how he looked. So he never did, he kept his hair long, and was forced to wear skirts. It was hard for him growing up, he never felt like he belonged anywhere, even at home. He didn’t have many friends, but equally he wasn’t bullied. He simply floated through school waiting until he could escape to university. He just wanted to be himself.

Finally the day came, he found out he got into his dream university. He stood at the door of his small apartment, just off his university campus. His parents had helped him move into the small apartment as well as buying him food for his first week away from home. He took a deep breath and let his shoulders drop, finally feeling some semblance of relaxation in a space that was his.
“Okay, first things first, wardrobe.” He nodded to himself making his way to the bedroom. Hyunjin was going to put everything even remotely feminine at the back of the wardrobe and bring everything more masculine towards the front. He didn’t have many masculine clothes, but there was enough for him to put together a couple of outfits. Once his clothes were sorted, his chest felt lighter, and his breath came easier.
“Right I have the induction tomorrow, so sleep needs to happen. And I’m already talking to myself.” Hyunjin shakes his head at himself before changing to his PJs and climbing below his covers.

In the morning Hyunjin woke early, nerves wracking him. He got dressed in jeans, t-shirt, and checkered shirts. To try and ease his racing heart he danced around his miniscule living room with his headphones on - though if anyone asked he would deny this. But it helped him and took up the time until he needed to leave for the induction. The walk to campus was quick, although he’d walked around the performance art’s building three times, and was beginning to panic. An older student, with fluffy blond hair squished into a beanie and a friendly smile approached him.
“You look lost?”
“Ah I am, uhm, I’m looking for practice room 3, for the first year induction.” Hyunjin says, cringing at the high tone of his voice, feeling a bit betrayed by his own body. The other student doesn’t say anything about his voice, but he does nod.
“Ah, Minho is the TA for that class, follow me. I’ll show you.”
“I’m Hyunjin by the way.” He mumbles quickly following the other down the hallway.
“Oh, I’m Chan.” The blond grins over his shoulder before knowing on a translucent glass door.
“Hey Minnie, I have another for you.” Chan calls, opening the door, letting Hyunjin into the room who bows quickly.
“Thanks Channie.” The brunette - Minho - calls, eye roll practically audible.
“Sorry for being late.” Hyunjin says, making his way to an empty spot in the back of the room.
“It’s all good, easy to get lost right.” Minho grins, eyes following Hyunjin, well more specifically his ass, as he sat down.

The induction is over quickly, with Minho leading the group through a quick routine to see what level the group was at. Once the other students started leaving, Minho wandered over to Hyunjin.
“Hey so, you didn’t miss much at the beginning of the induction, mostly just introductions.” Hyunjin looks at Minho with wide eyes nodding.
“I’m Hyunjin, I use He/Him pronouns.” Hyunjin’s heart was pounding in his chest, making it ache as he finally introduced himself using his chosen name and pronouns. Minho oblivious to the heart palpitations the younger was experiencing, nodded at him.
“I’m Minho, I use He/Him too.” He smiles quickly before pausing for a moment. “Oh I forgot, This is my number.” Minho mumbles, grasping Hyunjin’s hand and writing his phone number on the back of it. Minho couldn’t help the red blush spreading over his cheeks as he wrote the number, meanwhile Hyunjin couldn’t help the grin he wore proudly.

Jisung walks into his boyfriend's practice room excited to see how his first induction went. Minho stood in the middle of the room smiling and bidding a blushing Hyunjin goodbye. He was still standing there well after Hyunjin had left, eyes glossed over despite his boyfriends happy chatter. He jumped about 4ft in the air when Jisung waved a hand in front of his face
“When the fuck did you get here?”
“I’ve been here for 5 minutes babe.” Jisung laughs while giving his boyfriend a small shove.
“So was it that first year that has you smiling like a psychopath? The one with the amazing ass?” Jisung laughs brightly, raising an eyebrow at his boyfriend.
“His name is Hyunjin!” Minho pouts, shaking his head at the shit-eating grin the younger wore.
“I gave him my number also, Sungie. I should have spoken to you first.” Minho says, catching Jisung and wrapping his arms around him, before planting a kiss on his forehead, causing him to cross his eyes.
“Yeah of course it’s okay, I have always loved you and your love of collecting strays.”
“That is Channie, not me baby. But I gave my number to him in hopes that I could date him at some point.” Minho says, leaning down to hide his face in Jisungs neck.
“Yeah that is Chan more than you to be honest. As for the dating, let me meet him first, then we can go from there. I don’t want us to get hurt again.” Jisung says, playing with his boyfriend's hair.
“I don’t want us to hurt again either, I love you Sungie, no one else is worth that.” Minho smiles and kisses his boyfriend briefly on the lips. Jisung kisses him back slowly, clinging to his boyfriend.
“Shall we go for lunch with the others?” Minho asks
“Yeah I am starving, I missed breakfast. I was busy writing with Chan and Changbin. Although Chan was late, which is unusual.” Jisung says with an adorable confused look on his face.
“I didn’t get breakfast either, I was way too nervous for this induction. Oh Chan being late makes sense, he helped Hyunjin find the practice room.” The pair left the practice room, hand in hand, and walked towards the recording studio Jisung and the other two often occupied. Once they had collected Chan and Changbin, they made their way to the cafeteria.
Hyunjin left the practice room, stumbling over his own feet as he left. Only he could have gotten to the building early and still managed to be late. Though now he was overthinking Minho's kindness, and the number written on his hand in thick black ink.
“Ugh, I’m being stupid.” He mumbles walking across campus and back towards his apartment. His anxiety had been high since he met Chan and walked into the induction late, leaving Hyunjin shaking. He was still shaking when the air was knocked from his lungs as he was shoved to the floor, his notebook and paper going everywhere in front of him.
“What the hell!” He cries out, looking up at the jock that stood above him smirking.
“What’s wrong can’t stay on your feet, bambi?” He sneers down at him, laughing and walking off, leaving Hyunjin on the floor sighing. He knelt picking his things up, when an adorable guy ran over and beant down to help him.
“I’m Jisung, I am so sorry he was a jerk. I hope you’re okay.” The other guy smiles, cheeks puffing up adorably. He hands Hyunjin his papers before offering a hand to help him up.
“I’m Hyunjin.” He says taking the offered hand and standing.
“You’re Hyunjin! You should come to lunch with my friends and I.” Jisung says not giving the other a chance to answer, before towing the taller one over to the table that his friends had claimed.
“Hey guys this is Hyunjin.” Jisung grins as Minho chokes on his water, spluttering. Hyunjin giggles a little bit, waving at the others in the group, He gets waved to sit down at the table with everyone, Jisung on one side and Minho on his other.
“So uhm, what's everyone's name and major?” Hyunjin asks, sipping on a juice box. Minho completely misses the question, far too focused on Hyunjins lips wrapped around the straw. So Chan cleared his throat and began to introduce himself.
“I’m Chan - although you’ve met me. I am a music production major, working on some tracks with Jisung and Changbin.”
“I’m a performing arts major with an interest in fashion and costume.” Felix says from where he is squished between Chan and Changbin.
“Woah! Dude your voice! That’s so cool.” Hyunjin says, making the other giggle and smile brightly.
“Jisung and I are fine arts majors with a focus on music performance and composition.” Changbin smiles as he kicks Minho in the shin when Hyunjin nods and turns to the other slightly.
“Uhm, I’m a performing arts major, and a TA in the first year's dance classes.” Minho stutters slightly, smiling at Hyunjin.
“Jeongin and I are philosophy and business majors.” The brunette with adorable square glasses said, thumping the boy next to him whose entire attention was on the book in front of him.

Soon lunch was over, and the group dispersed quickly, leaving Hyunjin to wander back to his apartment smiling. He dropped his things on the coffee table in the living area of the apartment, he took a seat on the sofa looking at the number scrawled on the back of his hand. Should he text it? Was he just giving the number to be nice? Hyunjin groaned and added the number to his phone. He wanted to message the elder, he seemed genuinely nice. Hyunjin typed and re-typed the message for 5 minutes.
[Hi its Hyunjin 🙂]
“God why did I think the smiley face was a good idea.” He pouted, dropping his phone on the coffee table, and putting a drama on while he waited for a response.

Minho was laid on the sofa with Jisung snuggled into his chest. They were watching for the millionth time Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, when Minho’s phone pinged. He picked it up, saw the message, and promptly dropped it on his face. Groaning while his boyfriend sat up cackling.
“I can’t believe you just did that. Is your face okay?” Jisung giggles, poking Minho’s cheek.
“I’m fine, Love.”
“Who messaged you?”
“Hyunjin, I wasn’t expecting it.” Minho explains, looking up at Jisung who was now straddling Minho. “What do I say?”
“Well what did he say?”
“He just said, Hi its Hyunjin with a smiley face.”
“You could just say Hi, back?” Jisung shrugs
“But that’s boring!” Minho pouts before beginning to type out a response.
[Hi, Jinnie. Wait, can I call you Jinnine?]
Minho groans after clicking send.
“God that is stupid.” Jisung shakes his head at his boyfriend's self beratement, and leant down to kiss him gently.
“Don’t panic, he seems sweet. You’ll win him over for sure.” He says feeling Minho hold his hips.
“Kiss me?” Jisung laughs, and indulges his boyfriend below him. If anyone would have said to Jisung, a year ago, that stern almost cold dance senior would be below him pouting for a kiss - he definitely wouldn’t have believed them. But he was so glad that it had happened. Minho had warmed up in general and it was amazing for those in the couple's life. Minho tightened his grip on Jisung’s hips, bringing him back to the present. Jisung bit down lightly on his boyfriend's bottom lip, making him gasp, deepening the impromptu make out session.
“Seriously! You aren’t the only ones that live here!” Jeongin says as he and Seungmin walk in holding takeout bags. Jisung whirls round cheeks red.
“Sorry Innie.” He says, climbing off of his boyfriend.
“Leave them, they aren’t the only ones that have made out on the sofa.” Seungmin says pointedly before tugging Jeongin down to kiss him gently.
“They didn’t need to know that.” The youngest pouts. Seungmin laughs, handing him the plates for the food for all of them.

Hyunjin, an episode deep into Sweet Home, jumped when his phone buzzed on the table. He read the message quickly and giggled.
[Of course you can call me Jinnie! I was wondering if I could pick your brains on dance styles?]
He sent the message quickly pausing the episode he was watching. He wandered to the kitchen and made himself some food, smiling to himself. A response comes through quickly.
[Of course Jinnie. What would you like to know?]
Hyunjin slurps up a mouthful of noodles, hissing when it singed his tongue, he read the message with his tongue hanging out like a puppy.
[Ah more need to run through the different styles practically, as I have a background in classics so need to transfer skills.]
[Sure we can run through some styles this week before lectures start up.]
[That would be awesome!]
Hyunjin is left grinning, excited to spend more time with the elder, and hopefully the cute boy with the chubby cheeks.

Minho was left grinning at his phone throughout dinner. Jisung smiled at his boyfriend, handing him another slice of pizza.
“Minnie, food darling.” Jisung giggles.
“Sorry I’m helping Jinnie go over some dance stuff this week.”
“That’ll be good, maybe I can drop in and make friends too.”
“I’d love that!” Minho smiles brightly at Jisung, while Seungmin mimes throwing up, and Jeongin shakes his head.
“At least they aren’t as bad as ChanBinLix.” Jeongin says, face screwing up at the thought of having another dinner with the trio who were sickeningly in love.
“But they are cute!”
“I didn’t say they weren’t but sometimes they are too much.”
