Work Text:
Mother’s Day, the one day a year dedicated to all Mom’s in the world and where it’s (somewhat) expected for people to give gifts to their mothers.
At least, that’s what Laswell knows. She left the office and decided to visit the 141 base, Laswell did everything she could think of for the first day from meeting rookies that were present and hanging out at the base to vaguely helping Gaz, Soap or Ghost train certain rookie groups. It was calming being away from all the office work and being on base, it brought the woman joy.
Going back, it was the day before Mother’s Day and Farah and her brother, Hadir, arrived. Price, Gaz, Soap, Ghost and the two siblings decided to each buy something for Laswell. Everyone had their own ideas and that’s the day they went on a mini shopping spree. So, they left to the mall and went their own ways. About an hour later everyone regrouped in the food court, it was an easy meet up spot and nothing was in the way. The group sat in some kind of make shift circle and showed off their gifts. Price bought a candle, Gaz bought a “World’s Best Mum” mug, Soap bought a small crochet frog, Ghost bought a few flowers and chocolate, Farah and Hadir grouped up and bought a few drawing supplies.
Once the group showed each other the gifts they bought, they decided it was time to go back to base, as Laswell would arrived within the next hour.
Back to the present, around 6PM, Price had convinced Laswell to relax and sit in the common room, where Farah, Gaz, Hadir, Ghost and Soap were seated, leaving a spot specifically for Laswell. “What’s all this about?” The woman asked, sitting comfortably on the chair as she looked amongst the group. “Don’t think we forgot, Laswell” Ghost’s deep voice sounded as he stood up and handed Laswell the flowers and chocolates he bought. Before Laswell could speak another word, one by one the group handed her the gifts with smiles as she opened them all and thanked them, by the end, Laswell stood up, close to tears as the group enveloped her into a group hug as they all said “Happy Mother’s Day, Laswell“ in unison.
Later that night, Laswell was in her own room, looking over all the gifts once again and reading the cards. “I guess I was wrong..” she said softly and quietly, indeed she was, the 141, Farah and Hadir had thought of her for Mother’s Day. The only thing that Laswell had on her mind for the rest of the night was those gifts and the smiles everyone had on their faces as they watched her unravel the gifts. Laswell was grateful.
