Chapter Text
The contest was simple, When pro heroes Red Riot and Alien Queen announced their wedding day they also announced the lottery. Instead of having all of their friends in their wedding party, there would be an open spot for one lucky fan to win. This person would end up being Pro Hero Dynamight's date, as Japan's number one bachelor and number one hero, this was a huge deal and entries were coming in at an unbelievable pace.
Izuku Midoriya sat staring at the entry screen with his friends just hours before the final deadline to submit. He had filled out the personal information but there were a bunch of questions left to answer and his determination splintered with each additional question he read. Ochaco leaned in and gave him a gentle nudge to the ribs, "Finish the damn form, you know you want to."
"It's such a long shot to even win it, the news says you have a better chance of walking out your front door and being crushed by a satellite," Izuku whined, pulling his fingers away from the laptop keys.
"If anyone could win it would be you," Shouto said firmly.
"Really?" Izuku perked up.
"Of course, you have the worst luck of anyone I know so it would only make sense that something good happen to you eventually," Shouto gave a genuine smile not even realizing how harsh his assessment had been.
"Gee....thanks Shouto," Izuku shook his head slowly, he loved his friends but sometimes they did not know what to say to comfort a person.
Ochaco pushed a beer bottle closer to the greenette, "Have a drink, take a deep breath. and then read the next question aloud, we will do this together."
Izuku did his best to settle his nerves, taking a swig of the beer and going back to the laptop screen, "If you were to talk to Dynamight about anything what would it be?" Izuku suddenly beamed, "I know how to answer this one!"
Shouto's head tilted slightly as he asked, "Really, what?"
Izuku gave a confident nod, "I've followed Dynamight since his early days at the sports festivals. I have him on alert on every single social media. I happen to know that not only are we interested in the same movies, tv shows, and music, but we follow the same journalists and public figures. We also have scored over 200% on that All Might quiz that was circulating on tweeter and I didn't see anyone else that got the extra credit right."
Ochaco grinned, "See, you've got this! You two would be so compatible if you ever met."
Izuku sputtered a bit, "Compatible? I just want to meet him, I could never hope to actually date him!"
Shouto leaned in and read over his shoulder, "What about question two, 'What is your secondary gender, and are you interested in men romantically'? Sounds like they are looking for someone that would be interested in being more than a wedding date."
Izuku flushed a deep crimson, "Listen, I know what the question says, and I doubt that would have much weight in the final decision. They said it is a lottery, doesn't that mean they just pick one out of a hat?"
Shouto deadpanned, "A hat? You think that pro heroes, with all their security risks, are just going to pull a slip of paper out of a hat and invite whomever that is to their wedding?"
Izuku looked down at his hands bashfully, "Of course it sounds stupid when you say it like that."
Ochaco shot a warning look at Shouto and mouthed 'be nice' before turning back to her embarrassed friend, "I am sure they are using these long answer questions as a screening process of sorts so let's do our best!"
Izuku guzzled the rest of his beer and nodded, "Next question, 'what do you think of pro hero Dynamight as a person and public figure?' " Izuku chewed his lip for a moment before answering aloud, Shouto dragged the laptop away and typed as Izuku spoke, "Of course, Dynamight is seen as a bold and brash hero but I am sure there is much more than that under the surface. You can't just look at interviews of him and write him off because of his attitude or language, you'd be missing the biggest point of everything. He has passion, the kind of passion that only the greatest heroes have. The kind of passion that All Might himself had in his prime. This is what makes him push harder and further than anyone else, this is what put him in the top spot at the youngest age of any hero. His drive is insane and others could only hope to be a fraction of what he is." Izuku's eyes shone with each word he spoke.
"And he is good-looking, "Ochaco added."
"And he is goo-" Izuku stumbled over the words as he realized what he was saying. "No!"
"So he's not good-looking?" Ochaco laughed,.
"Well, he is," Izuku rubbed the back of his neck absentmindedly, "but that's not the point. I would never say that he wasn't handsome, because he really is. Have you seen him? Those eyes? That body? But the more important thing is his passion, his drive, and the strive for victory that keeps him going. He is the epitome of a hero, Ocha, and I would give anything just for the ability to talk to him and tell him that."
"Fine," Shouto deadpanned. "But I am sure telling him what you really think would bump your odds of being chosen."
"Next question," Izuku said, cheeks ablaze.
"What do you do for work?" Ochaco read.
"I work for Endeavor's agency as a support analyst," Izuku answered.
"Works at Endeavor Agency as one of the brightest support analysts in the field," Shouto read aloud as he typed.
"That's not what I said," Izuku defended.
"I am just putting a little pizzazz in there," Shouto typed away without reading anything he was saying.
"Will you stop? Tell me what you're putting in that box." Izuku reached for the laptop only for Shouto to slap his hand away.
"....and.....sent!" Shouto nodded as the laptop dinged.
"SENT? I didn't get to read over anything! What if there are errors?" Izuku hopped up and rushed around to see that sure enough the 'you're application has been submitted' screen showed brightly.
"It's fine." Ochaco rubbed his arm gently, "You don't want it to be over-edited, you want some character in there."
"I'm going to need another drink," Izuku said before draining his beer.
~
The week before the lottery winner was drawn flew by quicker than Izuku had imagined. He had been buried in work since Endeavor had him working on some new upgrades for flame-resistant utility gear and he barely had time away from his shop for meals and sleep. He hadn't even had time to hang out with Sho and Ocha since the night they submitted his application, and he had only been able to communicate through a series of texts, mainly gifs, and emojis, since then.
The night of the drawing Izuku managed to finish his work and drag himself home to his tiny apartment just in time to microwave a frozen meal and sit in front of the tv. He would usually watch his new favorite mini-series documenting the greatest achievements of All Might, but it turned out that all the major networks had opted to cover the drawing instead.
At 7 pm sharp Mina Ashido stood in a beautiful little black dress with a large ticket drum beside her. The chosen host for the evening was a stunning Omega by the name of Camie, she looked as if she were trying to outshine the bride-to-be in a sparkly black slinky floor-length number. Camie gave a cheery smile and began the broadcast by reminding everyone of the rules of the lottery.
"Remember everyone, teams of lawyers have looked over the entries to make sure everyone is who they say they are and that no one has any arrest records or worrisome backgrounds. All entrants that passed the basic background check were added to the ticket drum here, it will be spun once more and then a single name will be picked out of the thousands of names. That one lucky contestant will be contacted within 24 hours by the security team chosen by the soon-to-be newlyweds, and whisked away to a safe house where they can learn more about the intimate wedding details once an NDA is signed."
Camie then turned to Mina, "Whenever you're ready you can pick your bridesmaid!"
Mina beamed a brilliant smile before stepping forward and turning the crank on the ticket drum, the sound of fluttering slips of paper mixed with the silence in the studio making it all the more tense when it finally stopped. Mina opened the tiny door and plucked a small slip of paper from inside. She gently unfolded it and smiled again, "I would like to say welcome to my bridesmaid, Izuku Midoriya."
The plate Izuku was holding slipped from his hands and clattered to the floor, breaking into dozens of pieces. His heart hammered away in his chest and he could hear nothing beyond the ringing in his ears. He stared at the screen watching the banter play out between Camie and Mina, but he barely registered the fact that their lips were moving. He was going to be a bridesmaid in the wedding of the century. He was going to be Pro Hero Dynamight's date. He was going to pass out right this second if he didn't remember how to breathe.
The room began to spin slightly as he finally managed to take a deep breath, it took a moment before he registered that his phone was ringing. Looking down he saw Ochaco's name flashing on the screen. He fumbled with the device before finally swiping to answer the call, a shrill scream blared through the phone and he immediately knew his friend had seen the drawing.
"Izuku," She called out, "you're going to meet your favorite hero!"
"I-" Izuku felt the room shift as darkness crept into his vision, "I-" He attempted again as his palms grew sweaty. He didn't even manage another sound before fainting, falling back on his worn-out sofa as Ochaco continued to squeal over the phone.
