Work Header

devils got you on the run

Summary:

Sequel to "come to me in the night hours" - must read that first to understand this.

Wednesday is navigating being both Tyler's master and his girlfriend, while also writing the sequel to her now best-selling book and research on Hyde's. Her schedule is packed full, but when a series of crimes start occurring in Jericho once more she can't help but investigate.

And that's without taking into account the mildly threatening text messages she's been receiving since returning from winter break.

Notes:

And here we are for the sequel! Thank you for checking it out.

Chapter 1: love me like you mean it

Chapter Text

Tyler moped all throughout his work day, knowing that Wednesday wouldn’t be coming through the doors of the Weathervane at any point for the next month. He knew that by this point, she was probably already well into her journey back to New Jersey. Knowing she had memorized his work schedule to not text him at work, he wasn’t surprised to not see any messages from her until after his shift had ended, but it still hurt a little bit.

Once he was home, he was still upset. Wednesday was now exchanging a few messages with him, but stated that she would be a bit busy unpacking and dealing with her family for the evening. They wanted to celebrate her coming home, and he couldn’t blame them.

“I’m back,” Donovan called out as he walked through the door that night, “Tyler?”

“Living room,” he said, watching his dad walk into the room, “I’ll probably head upstairs soon if you want the TV.” He sighed, setting the remote down and getting up.

“What’s got you in such a bad mood?”

Tyler just looked at him in response, knowing that the sheriff was more than aware that Nevermore students had just moved out for the winter break.

“Oh calm down, you’ll be seeing her in two weeks.”

“Their break lasts until mid-January, dad.”

“Yeah, but you’re going to see her, aren’t you?”

The younger Galpin blinked, confused, “No? She lives in New Jersey, how would I-”

“Oh, I thought you knew.”

“Knew what?”

Donovan shrugged, “Mrs. Addams called me a bit ago, around Halloween I think? Asked if I’d have any problem with you flying out there after Christmas and staying until they moved Wednesday back up here.”

Tyler looked at his father like he had grown a second head, “And you agreed? You’re going to let me stay there?”

“You’re eighteen, and I know that family can keep your other side in check if needed. Hell, if it even still exists.”

In their time studying Hyde, neither Wednesday nor Tyler had bothered mentioning to Donovan that Hyde had broken its dormancy the day he came back to Jericho. It allowed them more freedom, at least for now.

He could have hugged his dad at that moment, he was so happy. Why did Wednesday not mention this to him at all? Hell, she probably hadn’t known herself. Would her parents even tell her before he arrived, knowing she might protest?

The next day when they FaceTimed he found out that she had just found out herself, and she wasn’t against the idea of his visiting. “My family home has a lot more space than yours,” she explained, “We can test Hyde’s limits more, and in more…unique ways.” He didn’t want to think about what that meant.

The day after Christmas, Donovan took Tyler to the airport and sent him on his way with yet another lecture on being safe.

“For christs sake, dad,” Tyler groaned, “How many times do I have to tell you we aren’t doing that? You don’t have to keep reminding me about condoms.”

“I put a box in your bag just in case, anyways.”

“Dad!”

“Just go, don’t miss your flight or you’re not going.”

The flight itself was short, though with his excitement at seeing Wednesday again it felt like it lasted a lifetime. He had to stop himself from scooping her up into a big hug the second he saw her standing in the airport once he had gotten off the aircraft, knowing that it would likely be the last thing he ever did. And honestly, at that moment he considered it a good way to go out.

Westfield, New Jersey was not what Tyler had been expecting. It looked so…normal, for it to be the town the Addams family would choose to reside in. But once they exited the city limits and drove up on the looming mansion, his eyes widened. That made a lot more sense.

Wednesday gave him a tour of her childhood home, including the cemetery where she pointed out different relatives and spoke of their deaths. She ended the tour with showing him her bedroom - it was huge, a four poster bed in the center, a sleek black desk nestled under the window with her typewriter on it, and even a sitting area around a fireplace on the other side of the room. There was an ensuite that was much nicer than any bathroom he had ever been in before.

“My parents know I like my own space,” Wednesday said as she saw him gawking at her bedroom, “So they gave me a bit of a sanctuary to be alone, and away from them.”

“Wow,” he finally managed, “So, where are all the headless barbies I’ve heard so much about?”

“Not in here.”

“But you still have them?”

She rolled her eyes and motioned to his suitcase, “You can put your clothes in my closet, I’ve cleared a space to keep ours separate.”

“Why would I keep them in here?”

“Because you’re staying in here?”

“Where will you be?”

“...in here? It’s my room, Tyler.”

It dawned on him then that they’d be sharing a room, sharing a bed. That would be new for them, sure they had cuddled but this was something else altogether. It shouldn’t have come as such a shock to him that her parents were okay with this, seeing as they had already made jabs at them being married one day. This detail of his stay definitely never made its way to his own dad, though.

Tyler highly enjoyed his stay at the Addams home. Their interactions with each other were so…familial. He met Grandmama Addams, who seemed to randomly appear and disappear as she pleased. Honestly, he had only seen the woman once when she came for dinner and said something about Tyler being the perfect one before disappearing again.

Pugsley showed off his collections of all things to Tyler, excited to finally have someone resembling a brother in the house. Meanwhile, Gomez and Morticia smothered him with the same love they did their own children. Even the Uncle Fester he had previously met showed up at one point, and was still just as confusing as before.

And of course, he got to spend as much time as he wanted with Wednesday. They had even managed to take their relationship to another level, despite what he had said to Donovan at the airport that day and his initial nervousness at sharing a bed with her. Not that he had been expecting it, but the box in his suitcase got its use.

Tyler also learned that the Addams didn’t typically ever wander into nearby Westfield, instead Lurch did all the shopping unless someone just had a desire to get off the grounds of the manor. Wednesday only did this once during his visit, and only to show him the town. Tyler wondered if the real reason was to see how the townspeople of Westfield reacted to her, but he never voiced that.

Most people purposefully went out of their way to avoid her, which made sense in his mind as she had put piranhas in a swimming pool, injuring one of their own. There was one couple around their age, however, that had been brave enough to approach them.

“What’re you doing here?” the girl had pretty much hissed at her, “Didn’t you get sent away to some prison?”

“You must be very observant,” Wednesday retorted, “I was here all summer, as well as last winter. Surely you knew this.”

The girl huffed and crossed her arms before zeroing in on Tyler, “You should stay away from her, you know. She’s a total psycho. She’s probably killed people, buried them up at that weird house of hers. ”

“And how do you know he’s not some serial killing monster?” Wednesday said, “I was sent to a school of outcasts, after all. You know, werewolves, vampires, gorgons, and some you’ve never even heard of.”

Tyler almost spit out his drink, both in shock and wanting to laugh. The guy that accompanied the girl decided to chime in next.

“Hey dude, if she’s somehow blackmailing you or anything-”

Tyler tried to deadpane the way Wednesday always did, though he knew it didn’t work as well as he’d have liked. “Like she said, I’m a serial killing monster. I hardly need help from someone like you.”

The couple gaped in shock and fear, quickly turning and leaving the two alone. Tyler finally let himself laugh, “Oh my god, okay, that was amazing. You’d never get away with anything like that in Jericho.”

“That’s the only benefit to this town. Unfortunately he wasn’t one of the ones in the pool that day, this conversation would’ve been much more amusing.”

“God, I love you.” he grinned, “Think we can scare anybody else before we head back home?”

Needless to say, his time with the Addams family left Tyler happier than he had been in a long time. He almost asked Wednesday’s parents about any stories they may have recalled about his mother, knowing they attended school together, but held back. Maybe next time.

“Are you ready to experience actual hell?” Wednesday asked the morning they were set to return to Jericho. Lurch had already taken all their bags to the car, and they were waiting in her bedroom to be called to leave.

“Actual hell? I think it’s a little late to take Hyde into that…playroom of yours.” Wednesday had shown Tyler a room in the home full of what looked to be torture devices, stating that one day she might like to test them with Hyde. Tyler had quickly said he wasn’t okay with that currently, that any research that could possibly hurt him needed to be mild. And of course she did take advantage of this, though she seemed disappointed with the results for some reason. He never bothered asking why.

“No, I mean seven hours in the car with my parents. They can’t keep their hands off of each other long enough to take a breath half the time. Surely you’ve noticed by now.”

He had. Or rather, he’d found out the hard way whether house guests or not…Wednesday’s parents were not shy about doing whatever they wanted anywhere in their home.

“Oh, and I haven’t told you the best part yet,” Wednesday continued, “When we get to Jericho, we’re having a joint family dinner, apparently. My parents, you, me, and your father. Can’t you just imagine how well that’s going to go?”
