Chapter Text
The Hantengu family of Osaka is Japan's most dysfunctional family. At the head is 80-year-old Urami, a frail ex-yakuza who still sees assassins in every shadow. His five chaotic grandsons are slowly sending him to an early grave.
Eldest grandson Sekido is a 25-year-old salaryman perpetually on the verge of a rage-induced aneurysm. He once beat up his boss for "looking at me funny." Middle grandsons Karaku and Urogi, 22, are unemployable stoners who hotbox the family attic and sell weed to grade schoolers.
Youngest grandson Zohakuten, 12, is a pint-sized delinquent who was expelled for throwing a chair at his teacher. Now he spends his days vandalizing the neighborhood and robbing vending machines. The sole bright spot is Aizetsu, 19, a shy college freshman. While he gets straight A's, Aizetsu is frequently found crying in a fetal position, lamenting why a lightning bolt has not yet struck his family dead.
Unable to control this circus, Urami mostly naps the days away, waking only to accuse the mailman of secretly poisoning him. The Hantengus have been banned from every shop and restaurant in Osaka thanks to the havoc they wreak, yet remain blissfully - willfully? - unaware of what absolute menaces to society they are.
