Rising Titans

Summary:

Just minutes after Belos' defeat on the Isles, the words the Titan shared with Luz seem to never take affect... Well that's certainly strange. Not just that, but death seems to lurk in every alleyway. The world isn't what Luz thought it would have been after Belos' defeat, and she's definitely not taking it lightly. Danger somehow finds a way to strike her at any moment it can.

Titan magic is supposed to have disappeared, yet it's still in effect. Everything is the exact same. What in the name of both worlds is going on?
Images of past nightmares and fears invade Luz's mind as her journey as a witch continues.
Luz Noceda, a human from Earth, a student of the Demon Realm, and a warrior of peace, hasn't finished her mission on the Isles yet. But things aren't bad just there either.
She has a dream, one seemingly impossible now. Even if it means enduring sacrifices and trials to get there, she'll do whatever it takes to make that dream a reality.

Notes:

Okay.. Let's get things straight. There's a lot that goes on with this story. More than some people might be able to handle, which is exactly why these following things are major warnings that you will definitely see as you continue to read.
-Slight violence and gore; it doesn't get extremely heavy
-Major trauma is involved
-Any and all Spanish and other languages were used through google translate
-Anything medical related is not accurate, so don’t take my word or writing on it
-Suicide is a topic brought up in this story
-There will be spelling and grammar errors, I can't say how often they appear
Aside from this, there's not much else to talk about. Well, actually there might be a few things, but you get the idea. A lot of stuff in the tags takes a while to develop completely. Same goes with the warnings. If there's something wrong with the formatting, then I'll get that fixed
When you're done reading, you're welcome to check out the notes at the end and comment on anything you find interesting! I love to hear feedback and criticism from my readers!

Chapter Text

Luz stood in the middle of the debris from the palace throne room. Eda, Raine, and King were all looking back at her. "Well kiddo, I'd say this was a good ending to a wild adventure. And you really did an amazing job at pulling through."

King added, "Yeah, but I think I'm going to miss the new look. I just wish that it could stay, just as a constant reminder of my own dad." Luz smiled sweetly. She looked up at the sky and sat down while she waited for the power of the Titan to wear off.

"I'm going to miss it too. It was nice knowing I had the power to make the difference and love out that witch fantasy I had always wanted. But this power is so limited in time that I don't have much time left to use it. I think I've had my fair share of Titan magic for now though," Luz said and watched Eda and King walk over to her.

"Luz, what's it like with all of that power?" Raine asked. Luz looked over at them, thinking of a good answer.

"You said it yourself. I look fluffier than normal. But the power is difficult to put into words. It's so wonderful and magical that I-" Luz cut herself off with a sigh. "I can't describe it. I'm kinda going to miss it when it's gone."

Raine shrugged and started to whistle their and Eda's requiem. Eda heard it and glanced over before trying to join in. "Ugh, I don't understand how you can make it sound so good by whistling."

Raine winked at Eda and joined the rest of them on the ground. Luz was still looking up at the clouds with a smile before realizing something she had forgotten to do. "Oh! King, your dad had a message for you."

"He did? What is it? Tell me, Luz!" King persisted.

"Okay, okay," Luz replied with a laugh and leaned in. She whispered, "He said, 'I loaf you.'"

"I… loaf you? I loaf you! Bread pun!" King said enthusiastically as he started to laugh. Luz and Eda joined in, all the while Raine was sitting there, confused.

Eda was the first to speak after calming down. "The Boiling Isles have been saved. All thanks to you, Luz. Now what do you say we all head back to the Owl House?"

King jumped up and shouted, "I want to!"

Luz sighed deeply. "I think I'll stay out here a bit longer. I'll join all of you in a bit."

Eda and Raine sat up and shared a look for a few moments before Raine looked at Luz. "We'll wait for you. I think it's better if we head back together."

Luz stayed on the ground and reached up, looking between her claws and the sky. "This moment will live in my heart forever. I hope you all understand why."

Eda smiled and said, "You got to use real magic. That's what you've always wanted, right?"

Luz nodded and looked over at Eda. "Yeah, I did. And I loved every moment." There was a good minute of silence before she said, "Alright let's head back. I think now is a good time."

Eda stood up and transformed into her Harpie form. "Then let's get going!" she said enthusiastically. Luz jumped up and readied Stringbean. King hopped onto Luz’s shoulder while Eda picked Raine up.

“Come on, Luz! Let’s go!” King said, eager to go back home. Luz sat down on her staff and took off into the air with Eda following close behind. Luz smiled and didn’t hesitate to put on more speed.

“Oh it’s on!” Eda shouted and chased after Luz and King. Raine wrapped their arms around Eda and closed his eyes. Eda held him tighter with her arm and said, “Don’t worry, Raine. I’ve got you.”

“Even with one arm?” Raine asked back, still not looking up.

“Even with one arm,” Eda replied confidently.

“O- okay,” Raine replied, though they didn’t move at all.

By the time Eda and Raine arrived at the Owl House, Luz and King were already heading inside. “Guess she beat us. I’m more surprised that this new look hasn’t disappeared yet. She said she didn’t have much time with her powers, but who’s to say she can’t keep them?”

Eda set Raine down on the ground so that they could walk again. Raine looked at the house and asked, “What are you going to do with Luz? Her home is the Human Realm. Not here on the Boiling Isles.”

Eda sighed. “To be honest, Raine, I don’t know what I’m going to do with her,” she said as she transformed back. “I want her to stay, but at the same time, she has an entire home to go back to. Sure, she has a home here too, but that isn’t quite the same as her real home.”

Raine looked at Eda. “I think she feels more at home here than here. But without a portal, there’s no way for her to get home.”

“We’ll find a way for her to go back home. And hey, if it’s a door like the previous one, she can visit more often!” Eda said, elbowing Raine and snorting.

Luz looked around the empty room and said, “Time to get back to work. Without Hooty, the lights won’t be working, but we can make do with that.” She concentrated her magic and created a light spell in every single room of the house to give light to everything.

King stood back and watched Luz do her magic. “Luz, what’s going to happen to you when you run out of magic?”

“I don’t know. I’ll probably become my old human self, but who’s to say? Since I technically died, I don’t know what will happen,” Luz replied, a hint of worry etched into her voice. “When I talked with your dad, he said his powers wouldn’t last forever. But I don’t know if they were supposed to last this long. He also said something about the place I saw him, where if I went under the water I really would be dead, so maybe I’m not dead.”

King walked up and said, “Not unless I have anything to say about it!”

Luz laughed and looked outside. Eda and Raine were beginning to walk back inside, although Eda had a bunch of sticks and twigs with her. As they walked inside, Eda tossed all of the sticks onto the floor and began to rearrange them. “This will make do for now.” Eda grabbed Raine and sat down, holding them close to her as she nestled down into her makeshift nest.

Luz looked at her hands and said, “I still don’t understand why it hasn’t disappeared yet.”

King jumped up next to Eda and said, “I love the new look. I could get used to it.”

Luz walked over and grabbed King, pulling him into a hug. “Oh you’re just so sweet aren’t you?”

King squirmed around in Luz’s arms, even if there was no use to it. She sat down on the ground relatively close to Eda’s nest and squeezed King one last time.

A few minutes passed by in silence before they all heard the front door open, and they looked over to see Camila, Amity, Willow, Gus, Hunter, Lilith, and Collector all walk inside. Eda was the first one up and immediately ran over and hugged Lilith, to which Lilith returned it. Raine watched, smiling. King jumped out of Luz’s arms and ran up to Collector.

“Luz!”

The voice echoed around the room and Luz looked at the Amity, who was standing there, completely shocked by what she saw before she started to run over to Luz. Luz stood up and opened up her arms, smiling, until Amity ran into them. Luz picked Amity up and spun before they shared a passionate kiss, making Amity blush. Amity looked at Luz and asked, “What happened to you? You look so different! You look so…”

“Well, that one’s a bit of a long story,” Luz replied with a laugh, realizing what Amity had left out of her last statement. “I’ll explain the details later. I’m just glad my amazing girlfriend is okay.”

Amity hugged Luz again and said, “Me too.”

Camila walked up and tapped Amity on the shoulder, so she backed away as Camila pulled Luz into a tighter hug. “Mija, what happened?”

Luz felt herself being put down on the ground and said, “Long story. I’ll explain later.”

Luz pulled Amity back in as Collector began to bring Hooty back. Lilith touched Hooty and brought him back, to which Hooty immediately twisted himself around Lilith. Camila, Amity, and Raine were all looking weirdly disgusted, but relieved that Hooty was back.

Luz looked at Eda and King, who were gesturing to Camila with an arm out to shake her hand. Camila pulled Luz, King, and Eda into a hug, but let go relatively quickly. Willow, Gus, and Hunter all walked up to Luz and gave her a quick hug, asking all sorts of questions. Luz simply replied with, “I’ll explain it all in a bit.”

Eda walked back to Raine and sat down next to them before saying, “We did it. Now, Luz, I believe you have some explaining to do to everyone else.”

Luz nodded and held Amity’s hand as she spoke. “When we were teaching Collector about how to properly treat people. Belos ended up becoming a weird Titan and causing destruction over everything and was about to control the Boiling Isles. Hence why the arm is sticking up into the sky and the skull cracked open.

“Collector flew up to Belos and tried to be nice, which resulted in him almost being killed. I ended up taking the blow thinking that I was safe as well. When I looked at my hand however, there was this weird stuff on my fingers, and I slowly… faded away. Up until I died..

“Somehow, in the in-between, I fell into a pool of water where I thought I would drown, but then King’s dad, the Titan, the big one that makes up the Boiling Isles, lifted me out of the water. We talked for a bit until the corruption stuff that came from Belos appeared on him. More like it grew from inside of him, but you get the idea.

“He offered me to take his power, and that it wouldn’t last long. I shook his paw, claw, whatever it’s called, and he started to send me back. I asked him if he wanted to say anything to King, and he did. I gave King the message, and even when I first heard it, I knew he would love it.

“When I came back, I looked like this. I had magic. I could control the glyphs. I could do the things that I knew how to do already, just without the paper. I still have that power. I guess you could say that I’m half Titan now, which is… scary.”

Everyone in the room had fallen silent as Luz explained the story. Amity squeezed her hand tighter and said, “I know that this may sound a little weird, but I like the new look. I could get used to it.”

Luz looked over at Amity with a slight smile, but it quickly fell. “I don’t think it’ll last forever. He said that it won’t last long, but it’s already been a long time since he gave me his power.”

Eda looked at Luz and said, laughing, “Well for now, we can call you Titan Luz if you want.”

Luz shook her head. “That’s like calling King, Titan King, which sounds very weird if you ask me.”

Eda shrugged. “Can’t argue much with logic, even though arguing with logic is what I usually do. And magic. And rules. And-“

Camila interrupted Eda. “Mija, just know that even when you look like this, we still love you.”

Luz smiled and looked down at the Titan’s symbol on her chest. It was still glowing, which meant that the power hadn’t run out. She sighed and felt Stringbean rest on her shoulder. She gently scratched Stringbean’s neck and stomach before sitting down.

Amity sat down next to Luz as Willow asked, “How did you guys defeat Belos?”

“Yeah,” Hunter added. “I didn’t see his Titan form, but the palisman souls that he took must have had an effect on it.”

Camila looked at Hunter. “Palisman souls? You mean the souls of the magic animals on your staff?”

Hunter nodded. “He almost took Flapjack’s soul. Luckily he couldn’t do anything since he was controlling my body before we came here.”

Gus asked, “Would that have even worked since you’re a grimwalker?”

Eda and Raine looked at each other, then at Hunter. “Grimwalker?” Eda asked. “How much did we miss out on?”

Luz took over. “A lot, but we’ll explain it all over time. As for Hunter, yes, he’s a grimwalker. Belos even called him Caleb, which was his brother’s name. If I had to guess, Caleb was the one that Belos kept making grimwalkers out of.”

Hunter shuddered, but Willow rested her hand on his shoulder. “Don’t worry Hunter. It’s not a big issue anymore.”

Hunter blushed a little bit and nodded. Eda sighed a bit and said, “I’ll explain how we killed Belos. Every detail that I can remember anyway. Especially since the Owl Beast inside of me went out of control. King lost control of himself as well after Luz disappeared.” Eda took a deep breath and explained the whole story behind Belos’ death.

Luz listened as well, and during the middle of it all, she reverted back to her human self. Nobody noticed, except for Amity. Amity looked at Luz and whispered, “You’re back.”

Luz looked at her, a little confused. “What?”

“You’re back to your normal self. It looks like the Titan’s power wore off,” Amity said, lifting Luz’s hand up so she could see.

Luz took a moment to see what had happened. “WAAHHHH! When did that happen!?” Luz shouted as she backed up, looking at herself once again.

Amity laughed. “Just now sweet potato. You just changed back.”

Luz looked up and saw everyone in the room looking at her. Eda, King, Raine, Hunter, and Lilith were all laughing. Willow, Gus, Camila, and Hooty were more shocked than anything since there hadn’t been anything flashy.

Hooty looked at Luz and shouted, “It’s Luz!”

Gus pointed out, “Yeah, it has been. Luz has been here the whole time.”

Hooty narrowed his eyes. “Hmmmm… Okay!”

Luz sat back down with Amity. “Today has been really weird for me. Of course it’s been weird for all of us, but it’s been exceptionally weird for me. I thought I died. Twice. Then I got Titan powers and now I’m back to normal.”

King jumped onto the ground with a “Weh!” He looked at Luz and said, “You were the only one to have some crazy transformation, except for Eda of course. She can always turn into Harpie Eda whenever she wants.”

Eda rolled her eyes. “Well I’m going to finish the story. It’s up to you guys if you want to listen.”

“I do,” Willow, Gus, Hunter, Lilith, Hooty, and Camila said in unison. Eda continued to explain the story while Luz and Amity started to walk outside, holding hands and walking side by side.

As they walked outside, Amity asked, “Hey, are you okay? You usually wander off if something is bothering you.”

Luz sighed. “Yeah, there is.”

“Do you… Want to talk about it? I think that I deserve to know since I’m your girlfriend.”

Luz walked up to the cliff that overlooked the Boiling Sea. "Yeah… I guess I could," Luz said as she pulled a light glyph. Amity turned to Luz, waiting patiently. Luz tapped the paper and let the light float up into the sky.

"I guess I'm more worried about the future than anything. But I guess there's more to it than just that," Luz finally admitted. Amity turned her entire attention to Luz instead of the light.

"Why would you be worried about the future?" Amity asked. Luz looked down at the ground with a sigh.

"For the first time, I felt like the kind of person I wanted to be. You know how we started out. You were so convinced that I couldn't become a witch. I thought I could. And just in this past day, that dream became a reality. It didn't last for long, but I finally felt like the person I had always dreamed of being," Luz said, looking up only when she finished.

"If you're talking about Azura, believe me when I say this," Amity started. "You're the best witch I've ever met. You learned to do magic in a way that nobody else could. That makes you remarkable."

Luz smiled briefly before saying, "I'm still not the best person ever. I'm the one that started all of this. I'm the one that set all of the chaos we dealt with into place." Luz looked down with a sigh. "If anyone is better than me, it'd be you."

Amity lifted Luz's head up and said, "I'm not that great either. If you remember the old me, the one who was always obsessed with being on top, then you already know how horrible of a person I could be."

“Well, then we can both be like that together. Be the not great selves we are,” Luz said with a bit of confidence. Amity laughed a bit, and they sat down, looking out at the sea. Seconds turned into minutes, and minutes turned into hours. Nobody had come out to check on them in all that time.

Luz ended up falling asleep on Amity’s shoulder while Amity had an arm draped across her back. When the sun started to go down, Eda came out. Raine had stayed inside to talk with the others, and everyone had said their goodbyes to Collector after he released everyone from the archives, and both Luz and Amity had waved to him as he flew off as he flew back home to the stars.

Eda walked up to them and asked, “Are you two okay?”

Amity looked back and covered her mouth with a finger, gesturing to Eda to be quiet. Eda nodded and crouched down next to Amity. “Anything I can get you two?” Eda asked in a whisper.

Amity looked at Luz and said, “I think a blanket will be okay. We’ll probably stay out here for a while longer anyway.”

Eda patted Amity’s shoulder and said, “Keep up the good work kiddo. One day you’ll be even more of an amazing girlfriend for Luz here than you already are.”

Amity smiled and looked back out as Eda walked back inside. While Luz and Amity sat out near the cliff while Eda was retrieving a blanket for them, Camila asked, “Are they okay?”

Eda gave her a reassuring smile. “If you mean Luz fell asleep on Amity’s shoulder, then yes.”

Camila let out a sigh of relief. Willow and Hunter were talking in the kitchen while Gus was busy looking through some of the remaining things in the house. Eda looked at all of them and said, “I’m really going to have to restock on everything here.”

Raine popped in from the nest. “I can help with that. Darius would probably be willing to help too. The other coven heads might not be so up for the idea, but Darius is the one that I would trust most in this kind of situation.”

Eda looked over and gave a thumbs up. “Sounds perfect to me. I think the sooner we can get everything, the more this will feel like home again. As for Hooty, since he controls a lot of the house, he needs to get back onto the door again.”

Lilith looked up from her corner and said, “I don’t know if we should do that. He’s much better like this in my opinion.”

Hooty appeared behind Lilith and said, “I’m not leaving my Lulu.”

Eda rolled her eyes. “Alright, fine. We can live without you being in the door for a while.”

Hooty smiled and rested down on Lilith’s lap. Eda walked up to Luz’s old room and grabbed a blanket that had been spared when the Emperor's Coven Guards came and trashed the place. She looked around the room for a bit longer before walking back downstairs and outside.

Eda walked up to Amity and Luz before handing Amity the blanket. “Here. It’s what I have left right now.”

Amity looked up and grabbed the blanket, draping it over her and Luz. “Thank you, Eda. For everything you’ve done for Luz. And me. And everyone else.”

“Well what can I say? Everyone here is like family, and since it’s also my house and you’re all living in there right now, you’re all my responsibility. But I should thank all of you for making things much easier for me. Taking care of King and Hooty for so long was a pain in my side.”

Amity giggled. “I’m sure Hooty was the biggest thorn for a long time.”

Eda let out her boisterous laugh. “Yeah, I’m going to miss those days. I never thought I’d be a mother of seven.”

“Camila said the same thing once. She didn’t think she’d ever be a mother of six," Amity responded, trying to suggest someone that Eda could relate to.

“Only six? There’s five of you,” Eda pointed out.

“Yeah, well there’s someone else. Her name is Vee. She’s a basilisk, but-"

"A basilisk? " Eda interrupted. "Do you know how dangerous those things are? Luz told me about one that attacked Hexside and stole other students', and teachers', magic. Those things can't be trusted, and you were living with one?"

Amity looked at Luz. "She's not dangerous. Luz saved her from a wannabe witch hunter."

Eda looked out at the boiling sea and sighed. “The Boiling Isles never had a good past with basilisks. But I guess there’s always room for change. Like with Luz. Her change was remarkable, and it was a good one. So the change with the basilisks will do some good.”

Amity nodded and looked at Luz. She smiled and started rubbing Luz’s shoulder before pulling her in a bit closer. Eda, Amity, and Luz stayed close to the edge of the cliff as night fell.

When the moon rose well into the sky, Camila walked out and over to the three of them. Gus was following her out, but she ushered him back inside and told him to keep everyone in there.

Camila stood behind them for a bit before asking, “Are you going to come inside?”

Eda looked back and replied, “I will. We’ll leave these two out here for now.”

Camila looked at Luz and Amity before noticing they were both asleep. She smiled and said, “Let’s go in then. I think we should all get some rest after today.”

Eda stood up and began to walk back with Camila. Camila took one last look at Amity and Luz before whispering, “Goodnight.”

Amity woke up when she heard them walking away, but didn’t quite catch what Camila had said. She looked over at Luz, then up at the sky to see how late it was. She gasped a bit when she realized how late it actually was. She looked at Luz again and started to seriously debate on waking her up to head inside.

Amity sighed and smiled. “You know what, I think we should stay out here for tonight.” She kissed Luz’s forehead and closed her eyes. She used a bit of her magic to create a small orb of abomination slime that she flung into the air. It made a small explosion in the air before it fell down into the sea. Amity lay down on her side and rested her other arm over Luz and pulled her in. Amity began to fall back asleep, resting her forehead against Luz’s as she did so.

During the middle of the night, Luz had a nightmare about Belos. She was already trembling in her sleep, but she couldn’t tear away from the nightmare. Tears were already building up behind her eyes.

A light appeared above Luz. Her hands glowed and the Titan’s symbol appeared once more on her chest. Her eyes changed. The fangs, hair, horns, and claws, all grew back. Neither Luz nor Amity knew it had happened while the nightmare continued.

“Well, Luz, you’ve grown quite powerful. I see the Titan chose you to be his predecessor,” Belos rambled, hiding behind his old mask. Luz gripped her staff tighter and squeezed her eyes shut. “It would be a shame if you lost control and… slipped. That is why I’m offering for you to join the Emperor’s Coven. Join us and you will never lose control of your new magic. After all, you’re in possession of wild magic.”

Luz swung her staff to her side, planting the hilt on the ground. “I’m never joining a coven. Not after what you did!”

“The Day of Unity? The same goes with the Titan’s heart! Those were always an important part of the plan,” Belos sneered. “Wild magic is dangerous! I showed everyone on the Boiling Isles the truth!”

“You’re a liar and a fraud! You don’t deserve anything!” Luz shouted back.

“Then you’re going to watch me take away everything you love. Everything ,” Belos groveled. Luz rushed forwards and swung out with her staff. Belos morphed into his sludgy form and disappeared. When Luz turned around, she saw Gus, Willow, Eda, King, Hunter, Amity, her mother, and everyone that she had ever cared about on the Boiling Isles, suspended in the air just a few feet above the floor.

“Luz, get us out of here!” Eda called out, to which Luz immediately hopped onto her staff and flew up to them. Belos appeared in front of her and grabbed her. He used the same sludge from his body and threw her against the wall of the throne room. Luz looked down and used a strength spell to try and escape, but it seemed to be reinforced with some of the magic that Collector had given him.

Luz heard everyone across the room scream in fear and looked up. The first thing she saw was Gus’s body falling down to the ground. Willow was already tearing up, but everyone else was just shocked. Belos laughed maniacally and looked back at Luz. “This is what you deserve.”

Luz looked at Gus and felt tears pricking at her eyes. Belos walked across the line of her friends and laughed again before killing Hunter. Hunter’s cries of fear could be heard before they were immediately cut off. “Oh, Caleb, how much of a disappointment you were.”

“Hunter!” Luz and Willow shouted at the same time. The tears started to spill from Luz’s eyes, but she couldn’t look away no matter what she did. She couldn’t look away from the horrors that were unfolding in front of her eyes.

Belos looked at Willow and said, “Ah. The half-witch. I’ll be doing you a favor.” He walked up and held her face in his hand. “Although,  I don’t care if you’re a half-witch. You’re still dangerous for siding with the human.”

Willow glared at Belos through her tears and said, “You’re right. I am dangerous.” Her eyes glowed green and vines erupted from the ground and dragged Belos backwards. “I cared about Hunter! And you killed him like a heartless monster!” Willow yelled as a stray thorn shot from the ground and towards Belos. Belos’s body changed into its sludgy form and the thorn went through him. Willow gasped, and the vines loosened. Belos lunged forwards and killed Willow on the spot.

“Well, Luz, you can save the rest of them if you follow me and join the Emperor’s Coven. Would you like to do that?” Belos asked as he looked back, his eyes glowing the eerie blue she had always hated.

Luz was already crying with her tears spilling profusely. “I’LL NEVER JOIN YOU!” Luz screamed from across the throne room. Stringbean responded to her screams by shifting back into her snake form, but she was trapped by the sludge trapping Luz to the wall.

“That’s just… disappointing,” Belos taunted and walked back in front of everyone else. In quick succession, he killed off everyone except for Eda, King, Camila, and Amity. “I know these four alive mean more to you than anyone else. So I’m saving each of them for last.”

Luz looked down at the ground and sobbed. Her tears ran down her cheeks and fell down to the ground. From across the room, she heard King. It gave her an idea and shouted, “WEH!” A powerful shockwave of Titan magic flew across the room and struck Belos.

He was flung into the wall behind the last four and fell down to the ground in a sludgy mess. Amity looked across the room and at Luz. “Luz, p- please get us out!”

“I’m trying!” Luz shouted and put more magic into the strength spell. She could see the sludge beginning to tear apart, but Belos was already back up.

“Since the Owl Lady can survive being chopped up, I have a different method for you, witch ,” Belos remarked from behind Eda. He enveloped Eda in the same sludge that was holding Luz to the wall and blocked every airway before suffocating her from the inside.

From across the room, Luz shouted, “Eda, no!” It didn’t make a difference no matter what. Within just a few moments, Eda was dead on the floor.

Luz cried out desperately and struggled against the sludge that was holding her back. She still hadn’t completely torn through it, but she was close. Belos appeared behind King and said, “It was nice knowing that there was a living Titan. But that doesn’t matter anymore.”

Belos killed King and stood between Camila and Amity while Luz screamed from the pain of loss from across the room. “King! No! No, no, no! King!” Luz watched as Belos killed her mother, and the last thing she saw was the look of love from Camila. Luz ripped away from the sludge and ran across the room. Stringbean changed back to her staff form, and Luz grabbed her staff.

Belos smiled and prepared an arm to kill Amity. “Don’t you dare touch her!” Luz shouted. She spun the staff, creating a spell circle, and launched a fireball at Belos, followed by three ice spikes from the ground underneath him. “Leave my girlfriend alone!”

Amity struggled against the sludge and tore an arm away from it. Amity created a small spell circle and used an abomination to tear away the sludge while Belos was forced backwards by Luz.

Belos roared and disappeared into the floor. Amity landed on the ground and started to run towards Luz, using the abomination as a bodyguard. Luz saw Amity and reached out, hoping to grab her before Belos appeared again. Luz grabbed Amity’s hand and pulled her onto her staff before she started to take off.

Amity wrapped her arms tightly around Luz’s waist and looked back to see where Belos went. “I- I think we’re safe.”

“No we’re not! We have to get out of here!” Luz shouted and shot towards the door. The sludge covered the door, blocking them from passing through, and Belos appeared underneath the two, wrapping a hand around Amity’s leg. Luz flew up towards the ceiling, unaware that Belos was holding Amity.

“Luz!” Amity shouted as she was torn away from Luz. Luz looked back down and flew back down towards the ground to grab Amity’s hand. Amity’s face was still covered in tears, but just before Luz could make it to Amity, she was killed.

Luz jumped off of her staff and landed on her knees next to Amity. “No… No, no, no, no, NO! AMITY! NO! PLEASE! NO!”

Belos morphed back and cast his mask to the side. “This. This is your punishment. I’ll let you live to suffer alone.” Belos disappeared, leaving Luz alone, surrounded by the bodies of everyone she cared about.

"Amity, no. Please. I need you. I need all of you. Please don't leave me," Luz whispered, cradling Amity in her arms. Luz lifted Amity's head up and sat there, crying. Almost an entire minute passed before Luz gave Amity a gentle kiss on her forehead. "I'm so sorry I couldn't save you. I'm sorry, Amity."

Luz heard the throne room walls breaking and falling apart. She cradled Amity's body as close to herself as she could and listened to the walls and roof break down on top of them all.

To the outside world, everything seemed normal, but, in Luz’s mind, she was being tortured beyond anything she could imagine. When the nightmare ended, Luz woke up with a jolt, her breathing unsteady, and looked at Amity. She was sleeping peacefully, but Luz was crying because she thought she had really lost her. Luz didn't even know about the transformation and lay back down and curled up next to Amity, falling back asleep within a few minutes.

The image of Belos killing all of her friends and family and all of the people she cared about stuck in her head, even in her sleep. In the morning, Hooty poked his head outside of the door and looked around. He saw Luz in her Titan form and hissed. He moved over to Amity and Luz and yelled, “Who are you? What are you doing here? Where’s Luz!”

Both Amity and Luz woke up extremely quickly and jumped up off the ground. Amity formed an abomination hand over her own and punched Hooty. Hooty shouted, “Ow! Jeez! Hoot! I’m just trying to save you!”

Amity put the abomination slime back into its pouch and sighed. “Sorry about that, Hooty. You just scared us.”

Luz was looking at herself and cried, “A- Amity!?” Amity looked over at Luz and gasped. Luz's eyes were welled up with tears, but that wasn’t why Amity had gasped. “Why is it back? Why am I a Titan again!?”

Amity grabbed Luz’s hand and pulled her in close. Even she could see the fear and worry in Luz's eyes. “It’s okay. It’ll go away soon, right?”

“I- I- I don’t know! I thought it was gone!” Luz shouted, scared. Eda had heard Luz’s scream and was already running outside.

“What’s happening?" Eda asked as she stepped outside, then saw the current situation. "Luz, what happened to you? Why are you back in your Titan form?!” Eda ran up before she stopped in front of them both.

“I- I don’t know! I just woke up and I looked like this!” Luz replied as tears slipped down the curves of her face.

Eda smacked her forehead with her only hand. “Ugh. I know you’re freaking out, I am as well, but your mom might take this harder than any of us," Eda said. She watched Luz for a moment before muttering to herself, "We were talking for a bit last night and she said that she wanted you to be you. How is that supposed to work now?”

Luz looked at herself again, then back at Amity with a freighted expression written across her face. “What am I going to do? Amity, what am I going to do? What am I going to do about this?”

Amity cupped Luz’s head in her hands. Luz's tears slowed down as Amity looked into her eyes. “It’ll be okay. We’ll get it figured out. And besides, we have a few people who know how to use potions. Maybe that could help you out.” Amity wiped away the remaining tears from Luz's face, trying to be gentle and caring.

Luz grabbed Amity’s hands and blurted, “I don’t know what to do about this. I thought it was gone! Why is it back? What even happened?”

Amity looked at Eda who was shrugging. “I don’t know,” Amity admitted, looking back to Luz. “I don’t know what’s happening.”

Luz looked away as tears started to form in the corners of her eyes once again. She didn't know what to do. She didn't know how to react to this. She just wanted to hide and cry herself away. Luz looked back at Amity, hoping her expression would bring about some relief, but none came. She looked away again as she tore away and ran off into the forest, crying. Amity started to chase after her, but Eda stopped her. “Give her a moment. She’ll come back.”

Amity looked at the forest where Luz had disappeared to and let out a sigh of defeat, looking down at the ground as she did so. “Okay. I just don’t know what to do for her right now. She’s usually so full of energy. Crying isn’t something I’ve seen her do very often.”

Eda shrugged. “I’ve seen it a few times. I’m sure Camila has seen it more than anyone. I'll go get her to help with our current situation."

Amity nodded slowly and looked to the forest once more. “Don’t worry, Luz. We’ll find a way. Just wait for us.” Amity looked at Eda, but she was gone. Amity turned back to the forest and began to chase after Luz, hoping that she would be able to do something for her girlfriend.
