Chapter Text

"Alright," Miles' voice cuts the darkness. "Uh... Right... Sorry about the cliffhanger there," Miles says. "Where did we drop off again?"

WHAM!

"Oof... That's right"

SMACK!

"As you can-"

SLAM!

"-see, we're not exactly in a great-"

PUNCH!

"-situation..."

Miles slams into the floor. He opens an eye and addresses his captor.

"What's the endgame here.. uh... me?"

Miles-42 slams down a Prowler gauntlet. Miles crashes through the floor. He groans, pushing himself up. "Hah, joke's on you man. No more chains!"

A purple blur slams into his chest, tossing Miles back, through a wall.

"Ughh... You know... You're supposed to check if walls are load bearing first." Miles struggles to his feet, his suit in tatters, blood dripping from cuts on his chest.

The Prowler-Miles drops down, an evil smirk on his face. "You talk too much."

Prowler throws a blur of a punch, and Miles' sense forces him to the left. Miles counters, lands a punch on Prowler's face, throwing him back into the wall.

There's a stunned moment of silence. Miles-42 looks up, smirking as he wipes the blood away from his lip. "Interesting," he says.

"We don't need to do this," Miles says, charging up the electricity in his fists. "I'm just trying to get back to my own world and save my Dad!"

"ENOUGH!" Prowler swings, Miles dodges, throwing an electric fist. Prowler meets it with a purple gauntlet, and-

BOOM!

The force of the blow throws them apart, Prowler flying through a wall and Miles through a window, and suddenly-

"Oh gosh!" He throws his hands out, but nothing comes out of his web shooters as he falls several stories. "What!?" Miles looks down to see both of his webshooters crackling with electricity, the force from the blow frying both of them. "Not good!"

He falls and slams into a balcony, falling through the floor, and the next floor... And the next. He finally stops on the floor of the main lobby. One of his mask lenses is shattered. A gash above his eyebrow leaks blood.

"Ughhhh..."

"Don't worry," he narrates. "I... Always... Get back up..."

He pushes a slab of concrete off of him, then uses it as leverage to push himself to his feet.

"Gotta keep moving," Miles gasps. Patrons of the hotel stare at him in shock. He notices the looks.

"Uh... Sorry..." He says awkwardly.
He limps out the door, stumbling onto the sidewalk.

Suddenly, the Prowler slams into the street in front of him, the force pushing the cars around slightly. "Dad was right. I was meant for something greater."

Miles eyes/lenses widen. "I'm sorry. About your Dad too, but I need to get back to my world to save min-"

He's distracted and too late to dodge. The purple gauntlet sends him soaring into the side of a bus. He crumples to the ground.

"OH, YOU THINK IM'A HELP YOU SAVE YOUR POPS?"

Miles gets to his feet, preparing for a fight... Again.

"IF IT WASN'T FOR YOU, I WOULDA SAVED MY OWN."

That takes Miles off guard. "N-no, I couldn-"

SLAM!

Miles is thrown through the bus, slamming into a brick wall on the side of the street. He hears screams as civilians run for their lives.

His sense comes back and he dodges to the right.

Prowlers hand goes through the wall, and Spidey spins, running up the wall towards the building's roof. He reaches it and leaps up. A beam hits him in the back.

"GAH!" Miles yelps, falling down to the roof. He looks up only to meet the fist of his alternate self. The roof cracks slightly when Miles slams down into it.

He looks up, holding up a shaky hand. His alternate self smiles in rage. His Prowler mask drops down.

Another HIT, and another, everyone else's words shooting through his mind with each punch.

SLAM! "You were never supposed to be Spider-Man!"

WHAM! "You don't belong here!"

SMASH! "You were the original anomaly!"

CRASH! Miles falls through the roof, into the apartment below. SLAM! "I didn't know... How to tell you."

With each punch he falls through another floor, and it gets more and more painful, physically and mentally. Miles is falling.

PUNCH! "This isn't what we talked about!"

He hits the floor, and another glitch takes over, it hurts like hell. But Miles doesn't feel anything. Not anymore.

SLAM! "I will take everything from you! How you took everything from me!" He falls into a basement.

Prowler drops down on top of him. He pauses, his gauntlet charging up a massive blow. Miles looks up at his alternate self. Sees the anger and vengeance in his own alternate eyes...

"I never should have visited you!" Gwen's voice rings hollow in his head.

She... She never believed in him. He was never anything to her. She was always meant to be Spider-Woman, unlike him. She only found him to make sure he hadn't caught on to everything that was really happening, to make sure he was out of the picture.

She would never be with someone like him. The anomaly.

...And Miles... gives up.

WHAM! Miles crashes through the floor, the sewer, and falls into a tunnel.

He forces himself to look up. Only to stare into the headlights of an oncoming subway train.

The train horn echoes down the tunnel. Miles stares at it, his exposed eye slowly closing. He lets out a shaky sigh in acceptance.

Suddenly, a circle of sparks springs to life around him, and then he's dropping. He lands on a coffee table, crushing it in the process. He sees the portal above him close in a revolution of sparks, just as the train is about to pass over.

His vision is cloudy. He glances around, slowly, trying to blink his vision back to clarity. He groans in pain.

At the edge of his vision, there's a figure approaching, messing with some device on his wrist.

"Hey! Hey, Miles!" The figure chirps, seemingly a young man. He comes over and leans down, and suddenly the face is in focus. It's Peter Parker, but different. His face is... photorealistic? Like the Prowler at the Spider Society. "No time to die, Miles," he says, "not for us, not yet."

And everything goes dark as Miles loses consciousness.
