Work Text:
This can't be what I want
'Cause I feel like I'm coming undone
The world is cruel
It teaches you that you need all these things
I just needed you
I just needed you
To be happy
Cath stared up from her phone in surprise as she heard the sound of a bookbag clunking onto the seat next to her. It was Levi. She hadn’t really realized he wore a bookbag, of course Cath knew he attended classes but he had always struck her as a carry-everything-in-his-hands-until-it-got-unrealistic type of guy.
“Hey you” he said smiling one of his classic Levi smiles.
“Hey yourself” Cath replied.
It had been a few days since she had seen him and she had missed him more than she realized. Cath had missed his constant, warming presence, his gingerbread lattes, but most of all, his uncanny ability to calm her down just by being Levi. It was truly shocking sometimes. She felt that she had known him more than just a few months, then again freshman time moved faster than normal.
“How was Arnold?” Cath inquired, referring to Levi’s hometown.
“It was good, I saw my little sister in Shrek the Musical, she played Gingy” Levi said with a smirk
“I’m sure that experience provided you with blackmail material for many years to come” Cath replied.
“Oh you know it” Levi said “How were things here in Lincoln?”
“Just the same old same old” Cath replied.
School wasn’t exactly what she most wanted to think about at the moment. Even thinking about all the assignments he had due made her want to curl up in a ball and hibernate.
“You ok?” Levi asked Cath, suddenly worried.
There he goes again. How does he do this?
“I’m fine, I swear, just have a lot of assignments due and I got a bad grade on a test” Cath mumbled in reply.
“Sounds like you need a bit of cheering up” said Levi “I’ll be right back, your job is to relax” he left her with a kiss on the cheek.
Fat chance.. Cath thought to herself, but she ultimately knew Levi was right. She mentally went through her mini list of calming activities in her head. It took her a minute but she ultimately settled on a Simon Snow audiobook.
Cath was about 20 minutes in when she heard the familiar thump of Levi sitting down next to her.
“What took you so long” Cath asked in mock annoyance
“Don’t tell me you missed me Cather Avery” Levi chuckled
“Maybe, maybe not” Cath laughed
“Well, anyway I present to you as a student of the Agricultural College, my new invention, ‘Banana Confetti float”
“What the hell is that?”
“It’s a sliced banana with a funfetti cupcake that was placed lovingly into a rootbeer float”
“Wow impressive” Cath laughed “Sounds like a surefire route to heart disease to me”
“I can’t believe you doubt my culinary skills, Cath”
“I could never doubt you, Levi”
His face lit up into his hundred-watt Levi smile. Cath couldn't believe how happy he made her. He was all she needed at that moment.
“Well aren't you going to try it” Levi asked
Cath sipped her dessert. It was delicious.
