Chapter Text
1.
The first time Minho did it he didn't put too much thought behind it. Kibum had left his phone behind in the living room of the dorm as he walked away down the hall to the bathroom muttering something about how boring it was right now and how he'd rather be watching anything else on TV than the game Minho had put on.
Minho noticed the phone right away, it was very unlike Kibum to carelessly leave his phone unlocked and sitting out in the open like he did and it would be such an invasion of privacy to touch Kibum's phone, right? Right?
Too bad for Kibum that Minho had already reached his limit today. They had a long day of practice and while everyone was exhausted, Kibum seemed particularly moody today and kept picking any opportunity possible to nag at Minho. Partially, (ok maybe more than partially), that was why as soon as they got back to the dorm Minho ran straight to the TV and put on the first game he found exclaiming that he simply had to watch it.
The other three were sleeping already, or at least pretending to sleep in their beds so really, the decision was easy. His eyes flicked over to it several times and before he could second guess himself any more, he grabbed Kibum's phone, opened the camera and took a cheesy selfie before setting it as his background and locking the phone quickly and setting it down back where he found it.
Minho settled back on his side of the couch and tried to look nonchalant (and Jesus, why was it so hard to look normal all of a sudden?) when Kibum reappeared from down the hall.
"Ugh. This is so boring. I can't believe you're still watching this. I'm going to bed." Kibum groaned out before grabbing his phone and stalking off to go to bed.
Soon after, from down the hall Minho heard a small shriek and then shortly after Kibum reappeared, quietly yelling in an attempt to not wake the other members, "What the fuck did you do to my phone?"
Trying to keep his composure, Minho responded with, "I don't know what you are talking about."
"You can't be serious. Look at my background!" Kibum retorted, shoving his phone in the others face.
"Aww, your phone's background is me? Kibum, you shouldn't have. I'm touched, I had no idea you felt that way."
Crossing his arms Kibum snapped, "You are really going to deny this right now? I know you did this Minho."
The two stared at each other for a beat before Minho's composure broke, a small smile flickered over his face before he started laughing.
"I can't believe you think this is funny! Why, just why would I ever want to look at your face any more than I already do?"
"Just consider it payback for your attitude today." Minho said nonchalantly.
"I'm sorry, my what?"
"Your attitude. You were like a spitting cobra all day to me, even Taemin noticed it earlier."
Minho looked at Kibum's face and studied it closely. Something shifted in Kibum's face, and it softened slightly before Kibum moved to sit down on the couch, "I'm sorry." He said quietly, dropping his gaze.
"I'm sorry, can you repeat that? I don't think I heard you properly, because there's no way the Almighty Key is apologizing to me right now." Minho said, a bit sarcastically.
"Aiish, can you shut up for one minute and let me talk? I'm trying to be real right now. I'm sorry ok? My boyfriend broke up with me yesterday and I… I guess I was taking my pissy attitude off on you earlier. He was annoyed that I work so much now and dumped me after we fought about how SHINee would always be an important part of my life. I don't think he appreciated feeling second best to all of you anymore."
Minho looked at Kibum and studied his face. Kibum was still looking down and refused to make eye contact with Minho, his chest rising and falling rapidly in tune with his breaths. Minho didn't have a lot of experience with conversations like this, (breakup conversations or coming out conversations) but he knew enough to know that what he said next mattered. Reaching out slowly to grab Kibum's hand he heard the other man's breath hitch quietly before ducking his head slightly to make eye contact before speaking softly, "Hey, I'm really sorry to hear that. For what it's worth it's his loss yeah?"
"I… thank you Minho. I know we don't always see eye to eye but… thank you. Now, I'm going to bed. Goodnight." Kibum responded before giving him a light smile and standing to walk away.
"Night, bum." Minho said to his retreating back as Kibum disappeared down the hall.
Kibum changed the photo back as soon as he was alone, but if you asked him if he kept that selfie he'd deny it for years after.
