Work Text:

“Okay, three…two…one, rolling”
“I’m Dean,”
“I’m Sam.”
“and today we are, uh, trying the Grimace shake”
Cas nodded behind the phone.
“Happy Birthday Grimace” Sam said, holding up the purple shake in a cheering motion.
As Dean started to drink the shake, bolts of lightning split the sky, rain started pouring down.
Cas stopped the camera, “Guys, It’s raining”
“Yeah no shit” Dean remarked back.
“Okay so, now we have to make a horrific accident with the shakes,” Sam started to say.
“I don’t get why,” The angel puzzled. “all grimace wants to do is celebrate his birthday, not hurt anyone. It is a bit odd how there is a birthday for a creature who is just a marketing ploy for a fast food corporation, but I do love the shakes”
The golden sign above the mcdonald’s flickered as bolts of lightning appeared to grow closer and closer.
“Dude, there is something in this” Dean said, words slurring. Half of the shake was gone from his cup by now.
“Let’s just film the rest and go home”
-
Dean Winchester had died several times before. Hit by a car, shot, attacked, possessed, you name it, it’s happened to him.
Sometimes it felt like he wouldn’t come back, but he usually did.
He was deep in the forest behind the mcdonald’s, writhing on the ground as he coughed up purple liquid, the golden glow of the fluorescent sign was the only light available to him.
The milkshake cup, empty, laid next to his shaking body.
“Sam!” he cried out. “Sammy!”
no response.
“C-Cas!” With a thick cough, purple shake and crimson blood flowed from the Winchesters mouth to his lips , running along the sides of his cheeks and trailing down his neck.
“C-cas…Castiel” He whimpered softly, tears streaming from his eyes.
A second spurt of blood shot from deep within him and he spat it out with trembling lips.
He heard a soft noise next to him and looked to see the angel. His angel.
“C-cas what’s H-happen-ning” He whispered.
“I’m sorry Dean. I do not know.” The angel replied, voice breaking under its gruffness.
“Save me…please Castie-el”
“I’m afraid i cannot.”
“Cas? I need to…tell…you something” Another lavender cough. Deans chest was rising and sinking slower and slower each second that went by.
“Cas, I-i. I love y-you,” Dean whimpered under the pain.
The angel shed a silent tear, and as he crouched down to get closer to the man, he felt the life and light exit Dean.
Castiel pressed a soft kiss to Deans forehead.
“ i love you too. “
The last of the shake left Deans body with his last breath. The angel was gone in an instant.
The golden glow from the Mcdonald’s sign was the only light shining down on the dead body of a great man.

The only sounds that could be heard in the forest behind the mcdonald’s was the heavy footsteps of Sam Winchester and the labored breaths he was taking as he ran. If you were to ask him what he was running from, he wouldn’t be able to tell you.
One moment, it was raining and he was with his family, the next he was running for his life. The Grimace Shake cup was still in his hand and Sam couldn’t seem to let go. He stopped to catch his breath by a small creek in the forest when he heard a soft noise behind him.
“Sam.” Castiels rough voice called to him.
“Cas? Where’s Dean?” Sam panted, trying to catch his breath.
A crestfallen look was shadowed across the angels face, only illuminated by a soft yellow glow.
“Cas. Where is dean?”
Castiel swallowed hard.
“I’m afraid he did not…he’s dead.”
A confused emotion darkened Sam’s face. Tears welled up in his eyes.
“What? What killed him?”
Cas was almost in tears again, watching the younger brother confront the grief and loss.
“I believe…it was the shake. “ Cas nodded in the direction of the cup.
Sam let go of the cup, sending it smashing to the ground.
A chilling snarl was heard from deep within the forest. In an instant, Cas disappeared.
Sam kept running. He ran and ran until the creek warped into a river. On the other side of the river was the mcdonald’s parking lot, and the impala.
All Sam had to do was book it across the river and speed back home to the bunker. He stepped into the river, icy water flooding his shoes and weighing his legs down. He stepped carefully across the river, but a gnarled branch trapped his foot. The trees behind him shook and he heard a low growl. As he tried to shake his leg free from the branch, his other foot slipped on a rock thick with moss underwater. He fell backwards, neck snapping back and his head cracking on the stones. His world turned black and he was quick to lose consciousness. Sam’s blood flooded the water, staining the rocks underneath him a deep scarlet.
The creature that was behind him in the forest was quick to pounce on the limp body in the water, tearing Sam’s limbs apart and feasting on the muscles that were toned underneath the bloodstained flannel.
-
Deep in the forest, Castiel called out for Sam.
The moon shone down on the angel as he wandered the woods.
“Sam!…Sam!!” Cas yelled, but received no answer.
He heard footsteps behind him and felt that it wasn’t the younger brother. Cas grabbed for the blade in his trench coat but couldn’t find it. As he was about to turn around and see who the other being was, a purple arm held an angel blade to Castiels throat.
“Please, Don’t” Cas said calmly.
He tried stepping away but the blade moved with him and sliced through his neck. A blinding flash filled the forest, and a body fell.
Grimace had claimed another victim.
