Chapter Text
Alphas are the worst. That is one of the few things Yoongi knows for certain; they are loud, obnoxious and smell horrible; at least the ones trying to court him do. So why, why was he currently in a bar swimming with alphas? Right, his supposed best friend begging Yoongi to come out with him that night.
“Yoongi you never leave the house, come have some fun. I swear I won’t ask for at least another month.”
Yoongi didn’t believe a word of it, but he came anyway after Jin threatened to call his alpha boyfriend and have him physically carry Yoongi there. So that’s how he ended up here, sitting at a table with two alphas. To be fair, Namjoon and Hoseok didn’t smell all that bad to him. They were tolerable, at least. That had been Jin’s biggest worry when it came to introducing Yoongi to “the man I’m going to mate”. Him and Yoongi had been friends since elementary school so his approval meant everything to Jin. He got lucky that Namjoon smells like freshly mowed grass on any given day, a bit of fresh dirt thrown in when he was particularly heated, in every sense of the term.
This was, however, his first time meeting Namjoon’s best friend Hoseok. He mostly kept to the other side of the table, laughing with Jin and Namjoon over god knows what. Yoongi wasn’t really paying attention, his focus teetering between the beer in front of him and this alpha staring him down from the bar. Despite all the scents filling up the space, it’s like this alpha was leading his scent straight to Yoongi and it made his nose scrunch up in disgust.
“I need one of you two to scent me,” he looks up to shocked faces. Namjoon had known of Yoongi’s dislike of alphas. He had assured him that he didn’t take offense to it because he himself has seen how condescending many of them are. They give all of us a bad reputation he had snarled as him and Yoongi got into a deep conversation about outdated notions and traditions of what it meant to be an alpha and an omega. “That alpha from the bar is about to come over here and I need one of you to scent me so he fucks off.”
“Jin’s been hanging off of me all night.” Hey Jin attempts to act offended. “It won’t seem believable. Hobi, you do it.”
“Me?” He looks between Namjoon and Yoongi like he’s almost scared to go near the omega.
Traditionally, Yoongi was a desirable omega. Appearance wise anyway. Outside of the comfort of his own home, specifically his nest, it was a different story. He’d been on some first dates with alphas that he didn’t find completely unappealing but it never led to a second date. His less than desirable non-omega personality seemed to drive them away. But why should he let his guard down? Why should he show these strangers his soft side to begin with? How does he know they deserve to be treated with such kindness and care? No, they had to prove to him they deserved it for a reason other than just being an alpha. And most alphas assumed they deserved it because of their rank, which turned Yoongi off even more to the idea of dating one.
“I’m not going to bite, I just...ugh he smells horrible.” His eyes widen as he sees the alpha throw his shot down his throat and stand. “He’s coming over here. Please Hoseok, please.” He gives his best pleading eyes and he knows they can smell the distress oozing from him.
“Yea, yea okay.” Hoseok quickly stands and everyone shifts to their left, giving him room to squeeze in next to Yoongi. He tilts his head to give Hoseok room to nuzzle against his neck, keeping his gaze on the alpha that had started to walk in his direction, almost challenging him to actually follow through with it. The ruse seems to work, the alpha immediately stopping when he seems to be able to smell it’s an alpha scenting him, not wanting to challenge Hoseok. Yoongi lets out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding in relief, that’s when Hoseok’s scent really fills his nostrils; a nice honeysuckle scent laced with what Yoongi could only describe as what a thunderstorm would smell like.
“He’s gone. Thank you.” Hoseok gives a nod but doesn’t move to go back to his original spot at the table. It’s not the worst thing, having an alpha by his side. Especially in a bar like this. “You don’t smell so bad, you can hang out with us again some time.” Hoseok gives a bright laugh and his scent mellows out into a softer scent, pure honeysuckle, as if he’d been on edge since they’d arrived. Maybe Namjoon had warned him of Yoongi’s aversion to alphas, but ya. Hoseok could stay.
Hoseok staying next to him ended up being the best thing to happen to him; every alpha that he even glanced his direction immediately looked away when they saw Hoseok next to him. Daresay, he enjoyed the night out with his friends; a shock to even him that he didn’t hate it and he voluntarily referred to the new alphas as his friends. A fact he will never admit out loud.
But the fun only lasts so long until he’s ready to go home to his bed in his shared apartment with Jin. Jin, however, decides to go home with Namjoon. Yoongi decides to take this time to enjoy his alone time.
Once home, he removes his shoes and immediately goes to his bedroom. He lights a candle, his favorite, and lets the grapefruit scent fill his senses. A scent that blends so well with his own, one that relaxes him completely. He changes into his comfiest sweatpants and old worn out t-shirt and stands at the foot of his bed, smiling at the careful arrangement of pillows and blankets. He gingerly crawls in, careful not to disrupt anything and make himself comfortable among the soft fabrics.
He lays staring at his ceiling, fully relaxed from the peacefulness and the leftover effects of the alcohol.
He stills when he hears the front door open, sure that Jin had said he’d be spending the entire night at Namjoon’s. He hopes they hadn’t had a fight, wanting to enjoy this peacefulness a little longer, but there’s a soft knock at his door.
“Jin whatever happened I’m sure it’s not a big deal,” he refuses to leave his nest, too comfortable to move.
“Hyung?”
“Jeongguk?” Yoongi sits up, eyebrows raised. It wasn’t rare for Jeongguk to stop by unannounced, but he was sure he’d been busy tonight since he hadn’t come with them to the bar.
“Can I come in?” He says it softly, barely heard over the stillness of the apartment.
Jeongguk was Jin’s younger brother and no stranger to Yoongi. Yoongi probably spent as much time with Jeongguk as Jin did, so him coming over to see Yoongi wasn’t out of the ordinary.
“You know you’re always welcome here,” and he was. Jeongguk was the only person Yoongi would allow in his nest and everyone teased him about it relentlessly. Jungkook was the only one who hadn’t presented yet, as you don’t present until you turn 21. He still had a few months to go but everyone was sure he’d be an omega.
Being the only other (possible) omega Yoongi felt close with, he was at ease letting him in his nest to cuddle, a biological need Yoongi curses if he’s being honest. It’s not that he hates affection and skinship but he is very particular about who he lets cuddle him. He’d let Jin in his nest a few times when he was particularly needy, but it was only if Jeongguk wasn’t around. Otherwise they kept their cuddling strictly to the couch and it didn’t happen often.
Jeongguk opens the door and enters quietly, practically tiptoeing towards Yoongi’s bed.
“Why are you being so quiet, it’s just me here tonight.”
“Oh, okay.” He says it louder, unsure why he’d find Jin being here such a big deal that he feels the need to keep so silent. Cause again, not unusual for Jeongguk to come over to see Yoongi. “Can I come in?”
“I’ve told you before, you don’t have to ask,” Yoongi scoots over carefully to give Jeongguk room. He crawls in cautiously, vigilant of the blankets and pillows before plopping himself down next to Yoongi.
“Hi,” he whispers again, which makes Yoongi smile.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, I’m just,” he yawns. “just tired is all. Mind if I sleep here tonight?”
“Why didn’t you just go home?” Yoongi asks as he begins raking his fingers through Jeongguk’s hair. It’s grown a lot this year, now past his ears.
“Your place was closer,” he closes his eyes, shifting his head into the feeling, a relaxed sigh leaving his body.
“I feel like I’m being used,” Yoongi chuckles, hands still in Jeongguk’s locks.
“Never,” Jeongguk whispers, voice clear he’s seconds away from sleep.
“Goodnight, Jeongguk.” Yoongi whispers back as Jeongguk’s mouth falls open slightly, a clear sign he’s already passed out.
Yoongi wakes up with Jeongguk’s head on his chest, their legs tangled up together. He must’ve rolled over in his sleep, it’s cute. He stretches his arms up, jostling Jeongguk awake.
“Mm no back to sleep,” he turns his head into Yoongi’s chest. Yoongi glances up at the alarm clock that sits useless on his nightstand, a piece of machinery he doesn’t use for its proper purpose.
“It’s almost noon,” Yoongi finds himself running his fingers through Jeongguk’s hair, a habit he’s unintentionally formed. But he feels Jeongguk’s body become heavier again, the motion lulling him back to sleep. Yoongi continues carding his fingers through his hair, leaning back onto the pillow and drifting off.
When he wakes again, the weight on top of him is gone and he can hear laughter from the other room. Jeongguk must’ve woken up and Jin must be home. He stretches out, feeling more refreshed then he has in weeks; how he usually feels when Jeongguk climbs into his bed for sleep. Being an omega, sleeping next to someone, having someone to hold and be held makes him feel more at ease, especially when it’s someone he feels comfortable being in his nest. Someone who isn’t an alpha.
He gets up and stretches, blowing out his candle, not realizing he’d left it burning over night. He exits his room following the laughter into the living room.
“There’s sleeping beauty,” Jin teases as he walks in. Jin and Jeongguk sitting around the coffee table with bowls of food in front of them.” You two looked so cute all cuddled up when I got home.” Jin practically coos at them.
“Don’t be jealous cause I won’t let you in my nest.” Yoongi teases back with absolutely zero bite to his words. And it’s not entirely true, he’s let Jin into his nest before, usually when Jin is feeling down. They aren’t exactly the type of friends to cuddle, not like him and Jeongguk. They were close in other ways, their love language being more teasing each other.
“I left you some food on the stove,” Jin says, stuffing his face with another lump of food. Cooking was their other love language; always making sure the other is well fed.
“It’s nowhere near as good as yours but it’s good enough. Ow hyung,” he hears from behind him as he walks into their kitchen. On the stove is a pot of what looks like kimchi fried rice. Yoongi grabs the bowl that Jin left out for him on the cabinet and fills it before joining the other two in the living room, taking a seat next to Jin on the couch.
“How’d it go last night?” Jeongguk asks, knowing Yoongi was meeting a new alpha for the first time.
“Hoseok wasn’t so bad, he’s tolerable.” Yoongi says between bites, shrugging his shoulders.
“Not long until you present, Guk-ah. Then we’ll have another omega in the pack,” Jin pokes his chopsticks at Jeongguk’s arm.
Jeongguk smiles in response, mouth full of food which brings a sense of calm to Yoongi. Their pack was a small one, Namjoon was their head alpha, Jin and Taehyung being betas and then Yoongi. Jeongguk was anxious to join, he’d said as much; wanting to be able to smell their scents, wanting to be able to scent with them. Yoongi would be lying if he wasn’t curious about what scents Jeongguk would carry, how they’d mix with his own lavender scent. Not because he was attracted or wanted Jeongguk in that way, but because Jeongguk was just so soft. And their scents intertwining was just a given, not only due to being pack mates but due to their regular cuddling.
“What if I’m not an omega?” Jeongguk looks down at his food.
“Whatever you are is what you’re meant to be, we’ll love you no matter what.” Jin answers, and Yoongi nods.
“Even if I’m an alpha?” He looks to Yoongi as he says it, fear apparent in his eyes. That was honestly something Yoongi never even considered but obviously something Jeongguk has.
“Even if you’re an alpha,” Yoongi puts his hand on Jeongguk’s arm, a way to comfort him knowing that whatever he presents as is good enough.
Because Yoongi knows Jeongguk; he knows that even if he presents as an alpha he will still be the same lovable boy he already is. His presentation won’t change that. He’s been adamant about no alpha’s in his nest though. There was still a bit of time before Jeongguk would present, though; time for Yoongi to consider if he’d break his biggest rule if that were to happen.
