And though it broke my heart, the day we had to part. I'll always thank you for giving me the most wonderful summer.

Summary:

They couldn't get to her in time. The afterlife wasn't so bad. The waiting was the hard part. Looking off into the Sunset Wednesday tried to understand what happened, but- no one could tell her. So she had to wait for the one she loved. Enid.

Work Text:

Pain settled in. Wednesday was gasping slightly, as she clutched the dagger sticking out of her abdomen. She felt the ringing in her ear, but soon... it was replaced with a melody, that annoying.. song..

Wonderful Summer was the song. Enid would play it when she was down in the dumps, and it would be on repeat, even while Wednesday and her slept, how it blasted through the she-wolfs headphones.

Wednesday had grown to it thought. The melody, the background singers, it made Wednesday feel some sort of peace.

But right now, as she was loosing blood, the thought of not being able to return to Enid was making her heart pound. She needed to get up, as the melody of the song played in her head.

She struggled to get up.

// I want to thank you, for giving me- the most wonderful summer.

Wednesday fell forward crying out. She looked over to the monster she just killed. Though, now her knife was in her.

She whimpered out. She felt so weak, so sick, yet- she needed to get back to Enid.

So she slowly got up, and started to get into a limp run. NeverMore campus was just 20 minutes away. She cursed in her native language. Why weren't any of the werewolves out? Where were the sirens sneaking off to their boyfriends? Hell the stones were nowhere to be seen.

She whined out, falling forward grasping the trunk of the tree as so much flashed before her eyes. When she first hugged Enid tightly for the first time. Their first ever kiss-

Then that fucking melody again.

// of my life, of my life, it was so heavenly you meant the world to me, and anyone could see, I was so inlove...

Wednesday had an added boost. She refused to die in these fucking woods. Not today, not now, and she started to book it. Because a groan of the loud monster scared her. It was dead? It wasn't dead.

She shouted, she felt the dense woods close around her as she kept moving. She swore she was getting tunnel vision as she held the knife still, running was hard enough, as even her legs began to fail.

The melody hit her again, as she fell once more, this time on her side. She gave a muffled cry as the roar of the angered monster made her scramble to her feet once more.

//I want to thank you for giving me the most wonderful summer. Of my life! Of my life.

Wednesday kept going, she wasn't gonna die here. No, and she kept that in her mind. But she was seeing stars, and she cried out again.

"Enid!" She yelled, it was desprate, as she panted out, coughing up blood, she had to stop, and gasp out, blood was dripping from her nose.

She wiped it, and the monster was gaining its composure, letting out roars after roars, and seeming angered it was taken on by a 17 year old girl.

Wednesday was close, she saw the clearing the path, only to stop against the tree shouting.

"Enid!!!" She held the dagger hard, she wanted to pull it out so bad. The pain was unbearable, there wasn't a doubt that she had a few broken ribs at most. Yet she needed to keep going.

"I'm not gonna fucking die here.. not now. Not today. It's not my time!" She gritted.

And she could hear the monster staggering her way, as it wailed out in anger, returning to a blood curdling roar. That's when Wednesday saw the lights of Nevermore erupt.

//I never will forget, that summer day we met, you were so shocked and yet, you stole my heart away.

Wednesday grunted and shouted again, this time for Princaple Weems, the second mother she swore she never needed, but loved.

She started to make a run for it, as she could hear the closing of the monster. She kept going, shouting everyone's name she knew to at least draw attention.

"When did everyone become so death!?"

Before Wednesday was tackled by the monster, and she swore she was close, but everything felt so far.

The world slowed as the monster heaved over her, a large hand on her head, keeping her still, it's drool dripping around her as it growled, only to roar at her.

Wednesday flinched, as she knew it was over. And the song kept going. The dagger had only been pushed deeper when she was pushed chest first to the ground. It was no doubt her ankle was broken, how it was twisted under a paw of this creature.

Yet she felt calm.

The pain wasn't there. Just that dumb... lovely song..

//We strolled along the sand.

Wednesday felt the pressure on her body harden as the monster opened its mouth. Wednesday stilled herself, as tears had started to fall, trailing past her nose and downwards to the other side of her face.

She was scared. She was really really scared.

//walking hand in hand.

Wednesday had whimpered, and she was seeing stars again.

"Enid.." She cried out, broken beyond repair. She felt weak, she didn't wanna go like this.

//then you kissed me, and I knew that I would love you my whole life throughhhh..

Wednesday closed her eyes and repeated Enid's name out of desperation, though her vision was fading, her words sluring.

//I want to thank you for giving me the most wonderful summer, of my life, of my life...

Wednesday gave a weak cry once more, and there was that song. The melody that Enid sung to her after asking her out to the Raven.

//And though it broke my heart... the day we had to part, I always thank you for giving me the most wonderful summer...

//of my life...

Then everything went blank.

Wednesday didn't think the afterlife was so bad. She was trapped in darkness. But that soft melody played, the sound of the beach, it was quiet, it felt right. She took a rather deep breath, looking off into the distance.

She thought for sure she was going to hell. Yet, Goody had strolled onto the beach to greet her. Wednesday couldn't help but hug her, commenting that she looked good.

Wednesday asked Goody about reincarnation. Goody had only shrugged. "Only when you need to be reincarnated you'll know... but for now, settle back.. relax. You did good." Was all Goody could comment.

Rowan was also there. He apologized, many times to Wednesday. Wednesday accepted it. And what felt like hours, at the beach. They talked about Nevermore.

The sun setting, Wednesday took a deep breath.

It seemed a day was much longer than a day on earth. Goody inviting Wednesday to her home of ancestors. She guessed that beach life ran in the family. She accepted it.

Acceptance was easy, she was an Addams.

The days trailed by, Wednesday only staring out towards the open sea, and the setting sun, over and over again.

Until Weems ended up on the beach.

Wednesday was surprised, asking Weems what happened. Weems chuckled.

"I lived a long life. It was my time to go." When Weems left the beach, she kissed Wednesday's head, and left with a warm smile.

Though Wednesday kept waiting. This time her father and mother ended up on the beach, and Wednesday was so surprised to see them, she hugged them, she held them, they held her, they said how proud they were of her, the hardest thing to do was see her go.

Yet it didn't cross Wednesday's mind how long she'd been in the afterlife until she asked Goody.

"About 60 years. Time is nonexistent in this world, except the sun, it's slower. Everything is much slower here. We perfer it like that."

Wednesday could only nod. Even while going to rest, she would wake up early, and start her morning on the beach, until she was invited to eat, and then back on the beach. Waiting. Waiting...

And then- Bianca was there, Yoko, and so on- yet. Someone was missing. After sharing hugs, and departing farther into this new after life world. No one told Wednesday what happened to her, no one dared. And Wednesday probably could guess why.

While she sat back in the sand, watching the sun. The soft padding of feet followed up on the beach. Wednesday slowly looked over, her eyes lighting up, as Enid looked on the verge of tears, happy tears.

Wednesday had jumped to her feet, running into Enid's arms holding her tightly. Enid sobbed into her as Wednesday took deep breaths, her tears falling.

Enid apologized to her. Apologized for everything.

Wednesday held her tightly, holding her girlfriend close. She asked why Enid was apologizing.

Enid told her about how they found her dead, the monster left her be because Weems scared it off, (shape-shifting was a blessing.)

How Bianca was trying her best to heal Wednesday the best she could. But it was already too late. She was cold, limp, she wasn't there anymore.

Enid could only break down more falling to the sand, crying out to Wednesday and apologizing over and over.

A flash hit Wednesday. She saw everything.

Her lifeless body being cradled by Enid, who was sobbing uncontrollably. How Weems tried her damn hardest to clear everyone out, but emotions ran high. Weems had Thornhill her wife call an ambulance. Yet it was no use. Wednesday had been declared dead at 5:34 am.

She saw how her family had to deal with her death. Her mother taking it especially hard. It seemed Wednesday's mom and Enid had grown close. Visiting her grave every year, sharing jokes, and life. Wednesday missing the best of life, how her parents conceived another child.

How Enid owned a bakery, Bianca owning a law firm, Yoko becoming a talk host. How her brother grew into a man just like her father, her younger brother joining the circus.

Weems having a child with Thornhill and running the school still, Xavier becoming a well known artist, and so forth for everyone else.

Even in Mortica's last years alive, she and Enid would visit Wednesday's grave, and talk.

Until it was just Enid.

And.. she was here.

Wednesday sniffled, squeezing Enid tighter.

"You meant the world to me... and anyone could see that I was so inlove.." Enid admitted.

"You were my soul mate, and when I lost you... I.."

Wednesday hushed her. "It's okay.. don't apologize for what you couldn't control. Faith had plans, and stood on its tracks. Im just... glad I get to see you once again."

Enid held her close. The two hugging on the beach, as slowly the souls of everyone came together to hug Wednesday tightly. A hug, a well needed one at that.

As the false world came to a still. Enid drifted back and brushed Wednesday's hair from her face.

Wednesday looked at her and smiled, pressing a soft kiss against her lips.

With that, a flash of light.

Goody smiled from the beach home as she looked back at Gomez who was sitting on the beach chair, smoking a cigar.

"They've ascend."

Gomez chuckled deeply. "Atta girl.."

Normally the souls on the beach would go to be up in a whole new world, to live in almost normal life. But for those who wished not to, and to wait for someone on this beach, it was perfered.

Gomez still was waiting for his family, Including Mortica. Goody was waiting for the day she could meet the rest of her family. Until the family tree ended.

A promise all three knew they could wait for.

But what was important was that Wednesday was at peace.

They were at peace all, at peace.
