Chapter Text
(Author's POV)
People often look at Jungkook and wonder in shock, how does he live? How could one born without sight be so gleeful and happy?
How could he live his life without seeing everything around him?
Honestly, Jungkook doesn't mind, or care. His whole life he hasn't seen anything, and he's gotten by fine on his own. Sure, it took a lot of practice to memorize his house and avoid the corners to not bruise his hips but being blind wasn't so bad, (or at least to him) especially when his other senses were so highlighted. Jungkook had the strongest sense of smell, taste, hearing and touch out of his family and friends.
Jungkook could tell every ingredient in his food, could tell who his friends were by touching their skin, could hear stronger than usual people and could smell everything like no one's business. Jungkook could tell where his friends were just by smelling their clothes, smell their natural scents but Jungkook could also feel their auras. Or that's what Jungkook tried to explain it as.
One day back in the past when he had first gone to elementary school, his mother was shocked to see him come back on the first day of school with five kids trailing behind him.
"Honey, who are these boys?" Mrs. Jeon wondered suspiciously.
Little Jungkook looked in the direction of her voice as he stated. "They're my best friends."
Mrs. Jeon furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, "But you just met them today? How could you trust them so easily?" Jungkook wasn't one to suddenly have friends, he was very quiet and stuck away from others because he always said they 'smelled weird.' and Jungkook hated when people randomly touched him, either out of pity or when they went to introduce themselves, people had to ask his permission to touch him.
So how did these five young boys pass Jungkook's boundaries?
"I can tell by their scents, eomeoni. I can trust them." Jungkook said firmly, smiling softly and Mrs. Jeon saw the sincerity clear in his dark gray eyes.
From that day on, Jungkook's friends, (Jin, Namjoon, Hoseok, Yoongi and Jimin) were inseparable from Jungkook. They truly became the bestest of friends, helping each other through hard times, making each other laugh happily and being there for them. They all grew up together and couldn't ask for anything better. They were there when Jungkook admitted to them out of the blue that his parents wanted a divorce and didn't know who'd take care of him.
With Jungkook being blind, he had to go to a lot of doctor appointments, and that cost a lot out of the Jeon's paycheck. They didn't want to give Jungkook up but also, they couldn't support themselves anymore. Yoongi took Jungkook in as he had gotten a pretty stable income from the marketing company he was working in. He offered it to the Jeons, who asked Jungkook, as he was now an adult and could decide for himself.
Jungkook wasted not another minute as he slipped his hand into Yoongi's cold one, murmuring to Yoongi that he wanted to leave as his parents started to smell 'bad.'
Yoongi trusted Jungkook's way of judgment and they left the Jeon house without a second look. Although the Jeon's send money, it still fills Jungkook with bittersweetness.
Yet, life went on. Jungkook is now 20, finishing his year in college while Yoongi worked hard at the company, soon becoming one of the supervisors. They still keep in good touch with their friends, Jimin and Hoseok help Jungkook out in college, Jin and Namjoon are making their own brand of merchandise yet it is still a work in process.
Though his hyungs work hard, Jungkook doesn't let himself slack off. He cleans the apartment that he's memorized, he can cook some meals on his own, he's there for his hyungs when they need emotional support. But, Jungkook isn't just that, he's a hard worker as well. Sure, his job isn't like everyone else's however, as long as it helps pay the bills.
Jungkook learned Braille when he was young and has used it ever since when he's able to afford it. Thanks to his hyungs, one Christmas they scraped enough money to buy him a device with Braille keys, making Jungkook able to read whatever his friends sent on the device.
Due to this, Jungkook offered his help to people who needed their essays formatted or needed a grammar fix, because that was something he loved to do. He had a lot of college people reach out to him and it soon became a thing he received money from.
Many people have looked down on him just because he was blind but does that stop Jungkook? No, he's ready to prove all those small-minded people.
Just because he has a disability, doesn't mean he can't do amazing or even normal things.
(Present Day)
"Jungkookie, I'm home." Yoongi called out once he stepped inside their cozy apartment, slipping off his shoes that covered his sore feet.
The constant sound of tapping made Yoongi assume the younger one was working on a project. "I knew you were home a long time ago, hyung."
Yoongi chuckled, walking over to where Jungkook was sitting on the couch, a concentrated expression on his face as he typed furiously on his Braille device. "Can you really hear me when I walk up the pathway?"
Jungkook snorted, not breaking his focus. "You have a certain way of walking, hyung. It's easy to identify your footsteps."
Yoongi chuckled again, sitting carefully down next to the younger. "What do I sound like?"
Jungkook continued to type furiously as he smirked. "You sound like a kitten sneaking on a windowsill."
That made the older laugh and snort, he was very used to his friends teasing him that he had such similarities of a cat. "Whatever you say, Jungkookie."
Jungkook grinned, still typing as he faced the direction Yoongi was talking from. "I made dinner, it should still be warm. I put a lot of pepper though, so I didn't eat much of it."
"That's fine, thank you, Jungkook." Yoongi claimed gratefully, about to reach his hand up to ruffle the younger's hair yet stopped himself. "Can I touch your hair, Jungkookie?"
Jungkook smiled softly, leaning more into his hyung's presence. "You don't have to ask, hyung."
Yoongi smiled happily, ruffling Jungkook's black hair gently. "Thanks, Jungkookie."
"Did work go well, hyung?" Jungkook asked, finally putting his device away once Yoongi grabbed a plate, sitting back next to the younger with a tired huff.
"Eh, more or less. Staring so much at a computer can hurt your eyes." Yoongi said, rubbing his sore eyes as he slurped on some cold noodles.
Jungkook frowned lightly. "I thought you supervised other people working on computers?"
"I do, but that doesn't mean I don't have to work on the computer either. I have to assign my co-workers their tasks, send emails and that other shit." Yoongi noted, hastily finishing his meal as he had been so hungry.
Jungkook nodded. "You work so hard, hyung."
Yoongi smiled. "Nah, you work harder. How many papers did you fix today?"
"I had about 4 essays and one lab report to correct. One of the girls who asked me today didn't know I was blind and gave me her papers so Chim had to hunt her down to ask for her email so I could have the essay sent to me." Jungkook mentioned, licking his lips as his eyes trailed everywhere slowly.
"Damn, that's a lot, Jungkook. And you got them all done today?"
The younger blushed softly and the pride was seen shining in his dull, gray eyes. "Yeah...I had nothing else to do."
"What about your homework from your classes?" Yoongi wondered.
Jungkook picked at his nails, shyness and pride still clear in his eyes, if Jungkook wouldn't admit his emotions, they were clear to see on his face or eyes. "I finished them when I got home from my last class."
"Wow..." Yoongi murmured in awe before his eyebrows furrowed. "What did you eat for lunch then?"
Jungkook paused for a second and the older one was able to see the emotion drain from his eyes. "I, uh, ate dinner."
Yoongi huffed. "Jungkook, make sure to eat lunch okay? I'm not asking to eat 3 times a day, just at least twice, okay?"
Jungkook looked away. "Yes, hyung. I'm sorry."
Yoongi smiled softly, leaning over to caress the younger's shoulder. "It's okay, Jungkook. I just don't want you to faint again, you know it pains me to see you hurt."
"I know, Yoongi hyung. Thank you for loving me..." Jungkook whispered, turning back in the direction of Yoongi's voice, reaching his hand out, trying to find where his hyung was.
Yoongi noticed and knew what to do; he reached his own hand out to intertwine with Jungkook's, bringing the younger one closer so they could sit side by side.
Jungkook laid his head down on Yoongi's shoulder, his lower lip wobbling slightly. "I love you, hyung."
"I love you too, Jungkookie."
"Even though I'm blind?"
"Even though you're blind."
