Chapter Text

The sirens never stopped. It always felt like Gotham was so gloomy and lonesome. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to help people. To help the people the sirens are for. I looked up to my mother, who happened to be a nurse in the ER. The apple didn’t fall far enough, and I became a part of Gotham’s police force. Saying I was part of the police force was a stretch, I work at a desk. And no. I am not a corrupt police officer. Maybe a little. Nothing terrible (not for Gotham’s standards at least).
Let me give you some context.

[Present Day]

Ughhh. How did my job become sitting at this computer desk all day ? “What’s up Peaches?” He drummed his hands on my desk with his big goofy smile. “Nothing right now. What about you Dickhead?”, I smiled. He playfully acted as though he got shot with an arrow. “How could you call me that!?!”, he gave me a fake offended face “Anywho” he says, “Have you got those files on hand for me?” Shit. “Yep! Totally! I think I might’ve missed some, but I’ll drop them off at your desk later.”Oh. God really loves to play games with me. IT SLIPPED MY MIND. Sorry Dick I’ve known you for how long? A year and a half and I forgot! I really need to invest in sticky notes. “Perfect! Thanks you’re always on it.”, He winked and left. I was a little annoyed. I knew I’d have to stay longer at work. “I don’t have time for this Grayson.” I mumbled to myself.

[Fast Forward]

Finally I’m done. I can go home and… do. more. WORK. Ugh it’s hard being a hero I thought jokingly. It was 6:45 pm and I still wasn’t home. I most of the time would use the train, or walk to go to and from work. I got to my apartment and finally made food, showered, and stuff of that nature. Just as I sat in my bed, my mom called. We spoke for a good 20 minutes catching up with me trying to end the conversation soon. Eventually, It ended and I made it to my laptop. I could finally help. In my free time that I had, I was a “journalist.” I wouldn’t call myself it but, it was essentially what I did. I would go and snoop around Gotham and find some of its dirt & after go through the files and reports at the PD for any connections to see if my leads about the crime in Gotham were true. I then would write and publish online about these big schemes or jobs and expose them under my alter ego’s name Divulge. If need be, I also would send them to newspaper outlets, PD, and essentially anyone who can help beyond me… yeah it’s a lot. Especially since I’ve gained quite a large following exposing more than the law does. I know the risks and all that comes with it ,but even still it always draws me back in.

Okay you’re caught up with it all.

Right now I’m working on my possibly most risky article yet. It’s an article on Black Mask. Yes I know it’s ballsy. I'm really struggling to get information on this case, so I’ve been using my connections in the crime world to gain more. It’s definitely risky business but it's worth it for the end goal. Justice. Yikes I just sounded like Batman right there, not my thing. Instead of justice I’ll say what? penance? Retribution? Not sure. ((Ding)) My phone buzzed. I got a text message from an unknown number. It was for the case I was working on. It read “Don’t do this, the risks are too high to continue.” Duh.
They think I didn’t think of the risks?
I’m not THAT stupid but, I am enough because I’m going to continue anyway. I giggled. I’m more concerned about how the person got my number… And that they know about my CASE?! whatever. I sighed. A task for another evening. I got to work on digging through the treasure trove of files I found and brought home today. I did find a couple interesting leads I’d have to look into but one caught my eye…
