Work Text:
'And now, to soothe ourselves into this cold, mellow morning: Just The Two Of Us by Bill Withers and Grover Washington Jr., a classic from the early 2000s...'
The radio scratches with a noise, the song beginning a second later as Steven perked up from where he sat on the dining table.
Unconsciously, his hand had put his fork down on his plate, intent on listening to the interlude of the song.
Klaus watched his husband with curiousity, the song beating softly in the background. And once the lyrics were sung, the redhead could find himself eager to listen to it too.
'I see the crystals raindrops fall, and the beauty of it all, is when the sun comes shining through...'
Steven began lulling his head to the music with a peaceful smile on his face, then he spared Klaus a look.
'To make those rainbows in my mind, when I think of you sometime.'
The two locked eyes, Klaus slightly embarrassed that he got caught looking at Steven whilst he was having a moment.
'And I wanna spend some time with you.'
"Klaus," Steven's chair skidded backwards as the ravenette stood from his seat, an avid arm reached out to the other.
"Steven?"
Klaus stared at his hand for a second, before taking it with an amused huff. The two now stood away from their dining table, one hand on the other's waist, and the other intertwined with each other's.
'Ju~ust the two of us... We can make it if we try...'
"I heard this same song on the radio last year, Mrs. Veded told me it was a very good song."
The man clad in dark blue pajamas began to sway them both into the slow rhythm of the song, humming along. Klaus continued to gaze at his husband in fascination.
'Just the two of us, just the two of us...'
Klaus squeezed Steven's hand affectionately, "And I presume that it reminded you of something?"
'Just the two of us, building castles in the sky...'
"If I remember correctly, it was the month before I properly proposed to you. Ring and everything." Steven chuckled, spinning them around.
"Really now? This song must've given you the courage." Klaus mused, shifting his weight as Steven prepared to dip him.
'Just the two of us. You and I.'
"Just the two of us. You and I."
The larger man could feel a childish glee decorate his heart as he witnessed Steven cheekily singing along as if he knew the song like the back of his hand.
Nothing could compare to the glow that radiated off of Steven in that very moment, how it heavily contrasted to the grayish-blue skies that lied beyond their window.
Klaus had only seen this glow during times where Steven was really in his element, where he had nothing to worry about; and if he was so full of love, just like he is now. He had the same glow when they both got down on one knee, the same glow when they exchanged vows in the small venue of their wedding and that very same radiance when they made love to each other on the night after they had committed to each other for as long as they could live.
"I'd indulge in that. Just the two of us." Klaus finally says even as Steven looks down on him with adoring eyes.
He smiles with his eyes closed, "Unsurprisingly, it's the name of the song, Amor."
"Huh. Well, this is a very good morning, hm?"
