After stealing that TIE with Zeb and "destroying" it. Ezra was ready to take a nap. As he lay down to rest. His thoughts drifted to his new crew. Sabine had said they were family, and he wasn't exactly sure how he felt about that. After he lost his parents he had been on his own, and he had tried so hard to convince himself that that was all he needed. Still life with this new family was certainly entertaining, and he was warming up to them. I mean sure Zeb was annoying and kriff chopper, there were so many times he wanted to sell that rust bucket for scrap metal. But he seemed to be getting along with Zeb now if only because of their shared hatred for chopper. Sabine was cool, although she was frequently annoyed by him, but if he had to be honest that was mostly his fault. And Kanan, Jedi training was going slow, but he was excited to start learning from him. His relationship with Hera was a bit hard to describe, but she had put her faith in him multiple times already, and saw things in him that he didn't even see in himself.
There was still one thing that confused him though. If the ghost crew was a family then Kanan and Hera were clearly the parents, but were they actually together. He thought they must be. Hera frequently called Kanan "love" and they had that constant playful bickering that he remembered fondly from his parents.
Ezra was feeling a little hungry so he went to the kitchen to get some space waffles, and found Zeb and Sabine sitting at the table eating as well.
"Hey, what's the deal with Kanan and Hera?" He asked. "They're dating right?"
Zeb and Sabine both looked at him funny and then went back to eating their waffles. Before Zeb finally said, "Kid, that's the one question you're not supposed to ask"
Ezra felt a weird sensation in his fingertips as he started to play with the fabric on his pants and he looked at the ground. He must have said something wrong. He had just gotten on Zeb's good side after they stole that TIE, and he really didn't want to annoy him again, but still he wasn't sure what was wrong about asking about Kanan and Hera.
"Zeb, give the kid a break. He's new here" Sabine said. "We don't talk about Hera and Kanan. Stuff between them's private.
"Because they're dating?" Ezra said with a slight smile.
"Because if you keep talking about them. Chopper removing the bolts from your bed is going to be the least of your worries," Zeb growled.
Ezra backed away slightly. He couldn't tell if Zeb was joking
"I'm so confused. What's wrong with these questions"
Zeb looked at him again, but luckily Sabine took pity on him. "Come into my room. I'll explain the situation"
As Sabine and him walked to her room. He remembered the time he had been there earlier today. When he told her he liked her art and asked if he could be her inspiration. That was such a dumb thing to say.
"Zeb's just giving you a hard time because he doesn't know the answer. The truth is none of us do," Sabine said.
Ezra was at the very least surprised that the rest of the crew didn't know about what was going on with Kanan and Hera. They had been there for years, so he couldn't understand how they didn't know what was going on with the parents of the crew.
"How? Do y'all just not care? Doesn't it effect like missions and stuff and isn't' there a jedi rule against dating"
"You'd have to ask Kanan if there is a Jedi rule against dating. And it's not that we don't care. It's just.." Sabine trailed off before continuing. "Of course I want to know. It's just I don't know how to figure it out. We obviously can't ask them"
"Why not" Ezra asked
"Because it would be weird," Sabine said.
Ezra knew it was probably a bad idea, but he wanted to know, and what was the worst thing that was going to happen. It wasn't like they were going to kick him off the ship. He had just joined the crew. He walked into the cockpit and saw Hera was scrambling the ghost's signature again. At least that's what he thought she was doing. He wasn't exactly sure. He didn't know much about flying.
"Hey Hera, are you and Kanan dating"
Hera looked at him and laughed. "Didn't the rest of the crew warn you about asking questions like that"
Ezra looked down towards his shoes and he shuffled back out of the room.
"Ezra, I'm kidding. And the answer is yes. I thought we were pretty obvious"
