Chapter Text

Muichiro Tokito, and his identical twin brother, Yuichiro, were walking to school.

It was actually more of Muichiro was hurrying to get there, and Yuichiro getting mad at him for small things again. Muichiro had been getting to school earlier recently, and his twin didn’t know why. He actually found it more annoying then usual.

The truth is, Muichiro had a crush on a boy from the High school’s first year. He was the sharpshooting club’s ace, and had strange, Mohawk-styled hair. He was the Terrifying Math Teacher’s Younger Brother, and scared a lot of people. He wasn’t a bad person or anything! In fact quite the opposite! He was just.. intimidating. And maybe a little bit brash. But in Muichiro’s opinion, he was absolutely perfect.

So the boy had been hurrying to school every day, in hopes to run into Genya.

He desperately wanted to be close friends with him!

Muichiro Tokito, and his identical twin brother, Yuichiro, were walking to school. Well, It was actually more of Muichiro was hurrying to get there, and Yuichiro getting mad at him for small things again. Muichiro had been getting to school earlier recently, and his twin didn’t know why. He actually found it more annoying then usual.

On the way, the trains had been delayed because of the weird, freaky train perv again. The twins had chased around that freakazoid before, and today was no different. They constantly joked about any problems on the trains being caused by the weirdo locomotive lunatic. But since they left early, they weren’t late.

Mui hurried through the school gates, pushing past the many students milling around the entrance. His heart fluttered when he saw that familiar mohawk-hairstyle through the crowd. It was hard to miss, honestly. Genya Shinazugawa was the only person in the school with that kind of hair. It was against dresscode, but the headmistress had allowed it, because it ‘helped him with sharpshooting’ or something. Whatever that meant.

The first lesson of the day went by without incident. Aside from a couple of the girls passing notes and giggling, looking at him. Muichiro never understood why he was so popular with girls. He never showed interest in romance. He wasn’t overly athletic (or, at least he thought he wasn’t), and he got higher grades then everyone else in his class. Which he assumed would make people dislike him a fair amount. It was the same with Yuichiro. In fact, Mui expected people to like his twin even less, because he could be quite rude at times.

It was the same story for most of the day.

At lunch, Muichiro spotted the Ubuyashiki siblings. He spoke to the five for a while. Despite them being second-graders, they were all awfully smart. He viewed them as sort of friends, since him and Yuichiro were often invited to their home by their father, to teach the youngest two, Kanata and Kuina, to play Shogi. On top of that, the parents were like a kind Aunt and Uncle to the twins. So he viewed the siblings as his little cousins.

The next couple of lessons passed without incident too. He spotted Kotetsu, a fourth grader he had unintentionally befriended, skipping class from the window. The boy was scrambling for a place to hide. Probably being chased by a certain faculty member with a wooden sword. Muichiro had a habit of befriending students from the elementary school.

At the end of the lesson, he looked out the window again, to see Kotetsu being dragged away by his collar. Poor kid hadn’t hid well enough. That meant his parents would be punishing him, and Kotetsu wouldn’t be allowed at the Arcade. Or to show off his fancy mechanical doll. He wouldn't be at the Tokito residence to play either. Probably just confined to the pizza place his parents owned. Or he'd be babysat by Haganezuka. Whatever it was, Kotetsu would be complaining about it.

At the end of the day, Muichiro hurried along the halls to meet his brother at one of the gates. He was hurrying until he heard his friend, Tanjiro’s, voice.

“-Alright Genya! We’ll see you on Friday!”

Muichiro stopped dead. Genya? Tanjiro never told him he was friends with Genya.

The boy hurried over, to see the love of his life walking away. He played it cool, and smiled.

“Good Afternoon, Tanjiro!”

“Hey Tokito!”

“What are you doing on Friday?”

Tanjiro smiled. He had a very recognisable smile. He almost always wore it. His smile was contagious, and soon, the younger boy was smiling too.

“Me and Nezuko are inviting a bunch of our friends to the bakery! We’ve decided to have a little party, with lots of free treats! Just to say we’re thankful to have so many friends! You should come too! We’ll add your name to the list- and bring Yuichiro too!”

That was nice. So there would be a lot of people there.

Including Genya.

“I’ll be there. I’ll try to make sure nii-san is there too.”

“It’s going to be great for so many people to be there! I just hope my little siblings aren’t too much trouble for it.”

Tanjiro laughed when he said that. He had spoken about his little siblings before. From Muichiro’s perspective, they sounded like lively kids. Maybe Kotetsu would be their friend. Actually, the energetic girl who seemed to work part-time at almost every job in their small town would probably befriend them too. What was her name again? Kanroji, he thought. She was memorable due to her interesting hair. It was big, and pink-green. It didn’t looked dyed, though, so that was the weird thing. Oh well. Would she be there? Did Tanjiro or Nezuko know her? Who knew.

Actually, he should probably get going before Yuichiro came looking for him. Muichiro bid farewell to Tanjiro, and hurried off to the gate, where his twin brother was waiting, with an annoyed expression. Safe to say, he was insulted a couple of times on the way home.

When the pair got home, Muichiro rushed straight to his room, and buried his face in his pillow. He kicked his feet and squealed like a little elementary school girl, but it didn’t bother him. His face was flushed, and his cheeks ached from smiling.

Genya was so imperfect. So human. It made him so appealing to Muichiro. So perfect. The boy would have daydreams about having fun days out with Genya. Maybe they went to an amusement park? They were had hung out a few times with a group. At first, Genya was intimidating, but Muichiro quickly learned he was just an awkward, somewhat goofy, teenager. His bark was worse then his bite. He got a little bit awkward around girls, but that was just because of puberty. The younger boy liked to tease him about it. Sure, he acted sarcastic around Genya, and teased him, but he was really constantly fighting the urge to explode with excitement. His legs ached to run, his hands wanted to clap rapidly, and his vocal chords wanted to pop.

Muichiro felt like his heart would just burst with joy!

Genya had jokingly called him ‘Minty’ once, because apparently the colour Mint Green reminded him of Muichiro. Apparently, Genya had once called Yuichiro ‘Minty’, thinking it was Muichiro, and got a black eye. Now, the two wore bracelets at school to help people differentiate them. Yui had the black bracelet, and Mui had the white one. It didn’t help people that much, but it helped some.

When he saw the colour purple, he thought of Genya.

But it wasn’t just any purple. It was that specific shade. He wasn’t sure of the exact name, so in his head, he called it ‘Shinazugawa Purple’. Genya’s colour. A colour that made him feel warm and happy when he saw it.

Muichiro hoped Genya thought of him when he saw Mint Green. After all, he jokingly called him ‘Minty’ for a while, so he must! He called him Minty until the incident with Yuichiro. He stopped after that, and when he told the group, he flushed and laughed awkwardly. Muichiro’s heart was beating so fast! Fortunatley, he was an expert at keeping his composure.

A few people around town had been nicknamed ‘pillars’, or ‘Hashira’, like they were the pillars of Kimetsu Town. Muichiro was one of these people. There were ten of them in total. A few teachers from the school, the girl with the pretty hair, and the student teacher- also known to him as one of Kanao’s big sisters. Muichiro was the only student in the middle school to be part of the town’s ‘pillars’, and one of the only two students at all, and he was incredibly proud. He didn’t show it, but he was. He was a prodigy, after all! So, of course he was good at keeping his composure. Genya had said once that he admired that, and Muichiro got so excited!

The week seemed to pass slower then usual. Muichiro was aching to get to the weekend. Not just because of Genya, but because he wanted to spend time with his friends. Besides, Kotetsu had been grounded for his stunt trying to skip class, and he wouldn’t be able to come over to his house.

Yuichiro had reluctantly agreed to come, mainly because he liked the treats they had at the bakery. Also because he liked the Kamado siblings. But mainly because of the treats, he assured his Muichiro. They finished school, and hurried home to change out of their uniforms. Then, they set off to the Kamado family bakery.

It took around 40 minutes to get there, because the trains were delayed again. The twins themselves didn’t catch the perv, though. Someone else had, apparently. They got there eventually, though. The train freak made a lot of people late to the little party. The Kamado family welcomed everyone in, no matter if they were late or not. In fact, a couple of people probably weren’t invited, Muichiro doubted Tanjiro and Nezuko had invited The Shabana Siblings, but the Kamados welcome everyone anyway. They loved their community.

Yuichiro was eating, and talking to one of Tanjiro’s younger brothers, so Muichiro decided to go looking through the small crowd of people for Genya. He pushed past people chatting, and eating, and dancing along to the music that Nezuko had put on. Aoi, Kanao and their older sisters, Sabito and Makomo, The Shabana Siblings (Who had probably shown up uninvited), Yushiro and his cat, a few of the teachers at school, the art teacher’s three wives, (also known as the Kunoichi lunch ladies), the girl with the pink-green hair, Rui (or in Muichiro’s head, the kid with the funny moles on his face), all five of the Ubuyashiki children, and a 'few' more people he had forgot the name of. This was a little more then just a few friends.. he assumed Genya hadn’t arrived, until he heard a gruff voice.

“Genya! If you break some shit, then you’re walking home!”

Shinazugawa Sanemi’s voice. Genya’s older brother. The vicious math teacher that almost everyone was scared of. That meant Genya was there. Muichiro looked around, and saw him. His face broke out into a smile, and he hurried over.

“Shinazugawa..!”

Genya turned to face him, and he smiled too. He looked relieved to see the other boy.

“Tokito!”
