Work Text:

Hera sat on the ramp of the ghost drinking her tea. She could see Kanan meditating in the grass about 100 feet away. She loved the quiet moments like this. The kids were sleeping, or Ezra and Zeb were. Sabine was probably painting. And it was just her and Kanan. To anybody else it would have looked like they were doing there own thing, but to Hera that was her favorite part of being together: Early mornings like this where they were by themselves but together: Hera drinking her tea thinking of Kanan while Kanan sat meditating. She didn’t exactly know how Jedi meditation worked, but she still felt like she was a part of it when Kanan was doing it.

As Hera was finishing her tea, she thought back to last night. How they stayed up all night talking, about everything from the rebellion, to their lives beforehand, about their childhoods and about their hopes for the future. It was one of those nights that she would always remember, not because anything unique happened but because it was so mundane, because that was what love was supposed to feel like.

She remembered what it was like when they first started dating all the worrying: did Kanan like her back.? How would their relationship even work? What if he rejected her since Jedi weren’t allowed to date? She didn’t have to think of that now. Not anymore. Now they were together.

Eventually they were talking about nothing at all, just whispering to each other. It was getting late, but Hera knew they didn’t have anything to do tomorrow, still she didn’t want to mess up their morning routines, so she got out of the bed and headed back to her room.

“Hera, you don’t have to go. The kids already know we’re together” Kanan said

“Okay, I’ll stay”

Hera came back to bed and Kanan wrapped his arms around her giving her a kiss on the forehead. Eventually they fell asleep wrapped in each other’s arms.

Hera smiled remembering the moment as she finished her tea. She knew these kinds of things wouldn’t last forever, that eventually the rebellion would be in full swing, and that they would rarely get moments like this in the future. But that wasn’t a reason to look down, just a reason to cherish these moments when they came.

Kanan had finished meditating and walked back to the ghost. “Hello Love, how was it today?”

“Pretty difficult. I couldn’t stop thinking of you”

Kanan smiled. Hera smiled back.
