Chapter Text
It was a warm evening out on the deck of the Thousand Sunny. You leaned over the railing of the deck, taking in the cool breeze and the salty air. It was peaceful, even with the Straw Hat crew partying behind you.
"Y/N! Hey! Over here!" You open your eyes and turn around to look back at Nami waving you over to her little umbrella table with Robin. You wave back and start walking, greeting your crew members as you pass them. You'd been welcomed into the Strawhat crew with open arms a good while ago, it felt like a lifetime ago with how well you'd gotten to know everyone. Being a part of the crew, it almost felt like home. Well, it was home. Traveling on the open seas, exploring islands, getting into mischief or even trouble, it was thrilling! The crew genuinely felt like your family, and they were happy you were there. You sit at the table with the two women on the crew, Nami and Robin, whom you've quickly befriended after joining. Robin reading a book in her lap, Nami leaning on the table on her elbows.
"Hey Nami! Evening Robin!" You smiled. Robin hummed at the greeting, briefly looking up from her book, smiling and giving a nod, before turning back.
"Let's grab you a drink! You gotta wash down Sanji's cooking somehow," Nami said with a smile and turned around to call for the cook over the cheers and drinking of the rest of the crew.
"Hey Sanji! We need a drink for Y/N!" Nami shouted. Almost immediately, Sanji called back.
"Anything for you Nami Swan~!" Nami turned back to you, rolling her eyes.
"I hope Sanji's incessive flirting doesn't bother you," Nami sighed, "Robin and I, we're just so used to it."
"Just second nature to living with him." Robin added, without looking up from her study.
"It takes getting used to," you admitted, sheepishly rubbing the back of your neck, "I'm sure I'll be okay." You weren’t totally lying. It did take getting used to. It was a bit odd having a man fawn over you for anything you did, especially in the… eclectic way Sanji did. But you knew if Nami and Robin could handle it and stomach it no problem, you knew you could too. And being a part of the crew as long as you had, it wasn't an impossible feat. Before Nami could reply, Sanji seemed to suddenly appear, a colorful looking drink being set down in front of you.
"A drink for you Y/N my sweet, a sweet treat for someone as sweet as you." Sanji grinned, feeling proud of his own flirtation. A slight dusting of a blush painted your cheeks as you gently took the glass.
"Thanks Sanji, looks great!" You beamed as he gave a satisfied giggle and walked off.
"Just the way he is," Robin said as you took a sip of the colorful drink.
"Guys! It's fine! If you can handle it, so can I!" You reassure as Nami leans forward on the table with a devious look.
"Sanji has seemed to give you a lot of attention lately." Nami smirked. You flushed a bit as you took a shy sip of the drink.
"I know. He's gone so far as to ask me out on a date." You say, placing the glass back on the table. This catches Robin's attention as she and Nami both look at you in shock.
"WHAAAAT?!?!" Shrieks from Nami and Robin echoed through the party, but not loud enough to get the attention of the others. You can't help but laugh at their reaction when Nami goes into a barrage of questions.
"Well?? Would you date him??" Nami asked. You chuckle and set your glass down.
"Don't get me wrong, he's cute and all, but there's so many reasons why someone shouldn't." You reply. Nami leaned back in her chair, beer stein in hand.
"That's for sure," She snorted. Robin took a sip of her wine and set down the glass.
"I'm curious Y/N, what might those reasons be?" She said, closing her book, now fully engaged in the conversation. You take another drink for courage, slamming the empty cup on the table.
"Listen. Don't get me wrong, but I like Sanji, there's.. just some deal breakers. Like, he smokes! A lot," you start, as Nami sighs.
"That's true. But he can't help it," Nami said.
"But it's a deal breaker for some, like Y/N." Robin explained.
"I know he can't help it, I just worry about the health issues, and the smell," you contributed. Nami nodded.
"Totally fair! You'd think the smell of his cooking would hide it!" Nami grinned, making you and Robin laugh in reply.
"What else seems like a deal breaker for Sanji?" Robin said, sighing as her laughter died down.
"Well, I think it's no secret he's a huge womanizer. Out of everyone here, he's most likely to cheat in a relationship." You said as Nami raised her stein and laughed.
"Man, I'll drink to that!" Nami said before taking a swig. Robin nodded.
"Very true. But I think if the right person came along, maybe it'd change his perspective." Robin added, swirling the wine in her glass. Nami snorted.
"Maybe Robin, but that's a heavy maybe," Nami said. You nod in agreement.
"Like, I'd give him a chance, if I could trust him," You said, feeling a little bad that you told Sanji you'd think about the date. You didn't totally say no, but you didn't totally say yes. Although, Sanji didn't seem totally defeated either. If anything he seemed more determined. Nami then sat up, like she'd sprung a thought.
"Maybe we can test his trust," Nami said with a grin, Robin smiled a little.
"What are you scheming up Nami?"
"I'm saying, we should make a bet!" She said, you raised your eyebrow in curiosity.
"A bet?" You asked. "Like what?"
"Hmm.." she thought for a minute, then it hit you.
"Like, Sanji can only flirt with me? No other girls?" You asked.
"Yes! Exactly! Sanji can only flirt with you, and only you! For… 2 weeks!" Nami said.
"Two weeks?" Robin said, "Does that feel a bit long?”
"Well, a week doesn't feel like he'd learn anything." Nami explained.
"What's going on?" Usopp said, overhearing the last bit of the conversation.
"We're making a bet," You start to explain, scooting over as Usopp pulls up a chair next to you. Soon, the rest of the crew is sitting around you three as Nami begins weaving the bet together like a quilt. Even Sanji seemed interested, taking the cigarette out of his mouth and puffing out a cloud.
"Okay, I'm intrigued," he said as Zoro could help but snicker.
"You wouldn't last a day," the swordsman said as Sanji pressed a foot against his head.
"SHUT IT MOSSHEAD!" Sanji snapped with a fire in his eyes. Luffy laughed at the sight like he always did, and his laugh was so infectious you couldn't help but laugh too.
"Sounds like fun!" Luffy said, taking a big bite of meat that he was holding by the bone.
"Yeah, sounds like a tasty bet. Ow!" Franky exclaimed. "But what are the terms? Yeah, Sanji has to only flirt with Y/N for two weeks, and if he succeeds, they can go on this date. But what happens if he loses?" Mumbles amongst the crew as they thought. You snapped your fingers.
"I got it! If Sanji loses he has to flirt with all the guys the same as he does the girls!" You said, hitting your fist onto your open palm beneath it. A moment of silence hushed over the crew before they all erupted. Laughter burst through the silence, mainly from Brook, Usopp, Chopper, Franky and Luffy. Zoro, who is rare for a smile or laugh, broke into hearty laughter.
"That's perfect!" Nami shouted.
"Now hold on a second!" Sanji protested, a bit of blush on his cheeks, probably in embarrassment.
"No way! It's perfect!" Usopp cackled.
"Y/N?" Sanji said, coming forward and putting his hand on your shoulder, "Can't you think of a different punishment?" He whined. You laughed.
"Think of it as encouragement Sanji! Plus it'll only be for a week if you lose. Plus you can still flirt with the ladies, you just gotta get the men included! Well.. except Chopper. He should be excluded." The crew agreed, Chopper was a lil too cute and a child to have Sanji flirting with him. Feels a little weird. And so the bet was set, Nami had you and Sanji stand across from each other and went over the terms of the bet again.
"Alright crew! Here's the terms of the bet: Sanji must flirt with Y/N and only Y/N, no other women including crew mates, for two weeks. If Sanji succeeds, he and Y/N must go on one date. If Sanji fails, he must not only flirt with the girls of the crew, but also the boys of the crew." Nami announced.
"Except for Chopper," You piped up, petting the head of Chopper who was standing next to you.
"Except for Chopper," Nami repeated. "Do you accept these terms?" You look at Sanji, a slight grin on your face as you stick out your hand for him to shake.
"I agree," you say. Sanji's cigarette stuck out of his mouth, looking you up and down before meeting your gaze. He looked like he was trying to play it cool, or be coy, but you could tell behind his eyes, he really wanted to win this date. You wanted him to earn it, and earn your trust, at least romantically speaking. Like you admitted, Sanji was cute, and you didn’t dislike Sanji, but if Sanji was as head over heels as he’d been telling you since joining, you wanted him to prove it. Sanji’s blue eyes finally met yours, put out his cigarette, and he grabbed your hand giving it a firm shake.
“I agree.” The cook said with a smirk, then bringing your hand to his lips, giving the back of it a gentle kiss. “I look forward to it.”
“Me too.” You said, feeling a little more confident in yourself. Maybe this would be fun.
