Work Text:
After spending three full hours trying to get Scaramouche out of bed, Yae, Baal, and their son made it to the Dawn Winery. They're preparing for a family vacation and decided to team up with the Dawn Winery family to tackle the trip together and help them pack up.
Scaramouche didn't really enjoy being around the Dawn Winery kids to be honest. They were always happy and did way too much for his own liking. It always takes him a second to warm up to them no matter how many times he's seen them.
"Scara, maybe you can go help Razor?" Albedo's soft voice snaps him out of his thoughts.
"Oh yeah, sure." Scara drags with a slumped posture. Heading up the stairs, Scaramouche registers that the "Razor" kid doesn't bother him quite like his siblings do. He's quiet and keeps to himself. Maybe helping him out is a good excuse to not interact with with the others actually.
Speaking of one of the mini devils, Klee runs past him, being chased down by Bennett, who almost makes Scaramouche fall.
"SORRY SCARA!" Bennett yells from down the hall. Scaramouche rolls his eyes, "Definitely not as annoying as them." He mutters under his breath. as he steadies himself.
Knocking on the door down the hallway, he wonders about how Klee managed to stay in her nightgown and not be dressed already like the rest of her family is. Do Diluc and Albedo not have control of their own kids or something? Well…actually Scara shouldn’t be one to talk about getting ready on time, considering the drama fest he put up this morning.
"Come in." It's simple and quiet, but not quiet enough for Scaramouche to not hear it.
Opening the door Scaramouche walks in and looks around. Upon seeing the person in front of him with short, uneven, silver hair he backs up, assuming he’s entered the wrong room.
Did they take in another kid or something?
"Sorry, I thought Razor would be in here-" Scaramouche bites his words when the person turns around and turn out to be Razor.
“Do I look that different?" Razor whines. Aside from the hair, Scaramouche realizes that his grammar also got a little better.
"Well not really, from the back you do....I thought you didn't want to cut your hai- wolf." it’s such a weird term for him, but he got in trouble last time for not calling Razor’s hair his “wolf”.
Razor turns towards the vanity across the room and pouts a bit at his reflection, petting the longer bit of his hair, "I didn't...but want fix..it up." So maybe his grammar isn't so good. He still sounds unsure of his words, but it’s not as bad as it used to be.
Scaramouche scoffs, "Yeah, it looks weird, Rae." The brutal honesty makes Razor turn around with wide eyes, "really?"
Something about the puppy eyes get to Scaramouche, instantly making him fix up a softer sentence, "Yeah, but I can fix it." it make him silently curse himself out for speaking faster than he could think, but he couldn’t help it.
"can you?" Razor asks, staring at Scaramouche from the vanity mirror. Scaramouche would never admit out loud, but the look on Razor's face made a soft spot in his heart and suddenly he felt like he couldn't say no. The certified softness is settling for sure.
Scara nods at him and walks over, "Do you have any scissors?"
Razor opens the drawer to the vanity and pulls out scissors, taking a seat in the chair in front of the vanity. Scaramouche takes a deep breath and grabs the scissors. Now that he's closer and able to take a better look at Razor, he begins to wonder about how Razor ended up with such an odd cut.
"Razor, how did your uh, wolf end up so uneven anyways?" Scaramouche bites his words a bit when he sees how Razor's eyes sadden. "It was an accident. I just got....over....overwhelmed I think. I wasn't thinking clear like water and I just cut it......wanted to look less wolf....but I miss wolf too."
Scaramouche sighs, "If it makes you feel any better, I once didn't like how much I looked like my mom, so I decided to cut AND dye my hair. It was terrible, I was blonde with a bowl cut."
Razor lets out a small chuckle, "I remember that....you were- you- you went to my twelve birthday like that."
Scara makes a bashful face at the memory, "Yeah, yeah I did." reminiscing on the moment makes Scaramouche a little warm inside.
a few minutes pass with just small talk and styling Razor's hair. It's not much, but it's enough time to just give Razor a special place in Scaramouche's heart for real.
"Razor, you're done." Scaramouche tells him while turning him around back around to face the mirror.
Razor's eyes light up when he sees the haircut he was given.
Scaramouche gets nervous with the reaction, preparing an explanation for himself, "I asked you to face me earlier so that I could cut your bangs properly, I know you probably don't like it but I just-"
"Thank you."
The words linger in Scaramouche's head for a second, "Wait what?"
"Thank you, Scara, I like it." Razor turns back around to Scara and hugs his waist, laying his head on his stomach. Scara tenses up at first, but ends up patting the other's head awkwardly, with quite the fond smile.
The moment is broken when the pair hear Yae calling out to them from downstairs, "KIDS IT'S TIME TO GO!!"
Letting go of Razor and going over to the bed to grab the boy's luggage, Scaramouche is hit with a question from said boy. "Scara, do you want to share a room with me at the beach house?"
Scara can't help but scowl a bit, he’s never shared a room with anyone after the fourth vacation, "I don't think so. I'll just claim the room I go for every year." Razor frowns a bit and picks up his clothing bag from the other side of the bed, "Okay."
They head out the room and make their way down the stairs. Albedo silently head counts those who are walking downstairs and halts when he counts off Razor and Scaramouche.
Albedo calls out his son “Razor?" Razor feels all eyes on him and he bites his lip, walking down the last three steps. Albedo puts his hands on the teen's shoulders and smiles, "I like the touch up." His dad’s voice gentle than ever
Razor lightens up a bit, "Thank you, Scara did it."
Albedo silently thanks Scaramouche, receiving an awkward laugh from him.
Fischl touches a few strands and nods, "It looks rather dashing, younger brother." on her side, Klee and Bennett agree about the haircut, leading into Klee saying she wants one just like it.
Yae whispers something to Ei, earning a elbow to her side. Yae laughs it off and picks up her bag.
Diluc clears his throat, gaining everyone’s attention, "I assume we're all ready?" words of assurance come from around the room.
When everyone starts loading into the van, Scaramouche is stopped by Yae putting a hand on his shoulder, "Soooo, you're gonna finally change your room this year?" she perks with a devious smile.
Scaramouche shakes his head, "don't get carried away." he’s considering it...maybe
