Chapter Text
Cassandra sat alone in her room, the soft glow of the Cassandrium pendant around her neck casting a gentle, lilac hue across the dimly lit space. Her fingers played with the small, purple element, twirling it between her thumb and forefinger. Despite the beauty of the pendant and its sentimental value, her face bore a melancholic expression.
It had been a week since Varian had vanished into thin air. A week filled with uncertainty, worry, and sleepless nights. Cassandra missed her friend and was haunted by the questions that had no answers. What could have happened to him during that treacherous blizzard? Why would he disappear at such a critical time? The kingdom was in turmoil, and they needed all the help they could get.
As Cassandra continued to fiddle with the Cassandrium, lost in her thoughts, a sudden commotion at her bedroom door broke her reverie. Ruddiger burst into the room with a series of anxious chitters, his small, nimble paws tapping urgently on the wooden floor.
Cassandra frowned, concern etching deeper lines on her face. "Ruddiger, what's gotten into you?" she asked, her voice filled with worry. She extended a hand towards the raccoon, hoping to calm him down.
But Ruddiger was beyond calming. He circled her, his tiny body quivering with unease, and his sharp eyes fixed on her as if trying to convey a message she couldn't quite understand.
"Calm down, little guy," Cassandra murmured, her fingers gently stroking Ruddiger's fur. "It's going to be okay. We'll find Varian. He's strong, and he'll come back."
Despite her soothing words, Ruddiger's agitation didn't diminish. Cassandra sighed, realizing that this was no ordinary anxiety. It was as if the raccoon could sense something more, something beyond her understanding.
With a deep breath, Cassandra decided to have a heart-to-heart conversation with the small creature. She settled down on the floor, her back against the wall, and let Ruddiger climb onto her lap. His tiny paws found their way to her shoulder, and he nestled there, his rapid chittering gradually subsiding.
"Ruddiger," Cassandra began, her voice low and gentle, "I know you're worried about Varian, just like the rest of us. But you have to understand that I'm worried too. We all are. We need to find him. I need to find him."
Ruddiger blinked up at her, his eyes filled with a mixture of sadness and understanding. It was as if he knew the weight of the situation and how much Varian meant to Cassandra.
"I promise you, Ruddiger," Cassandra continued, her voice unwavering, "I'll do everything in my power to bring him back. He's family to me, just like he is to you."
As Cassandra made her pledge, Ruddiger nuzzled against her cheek, a silent agreement passing between them. He may not have been able to speak in words, but his actions conveyed his trust in Cassandra.
Determined and resolute, Cassandra made up her mind. She would take care of Ruddiger during Varian's absence, just as she promised. Together, along with their friends, they would search for their missing friend, unravel the mystery of his disappearance, and bring him back home where he belonged.
With Ruddiger by her side, Cassandra stood up and left her room, ready to face the challenges that lay ahead. Varian might be missing, but his friends would not rest until he was found and safe once more.
