Work Text:

Price liked to think that he was a very observant man. After all, you don't become captain of a task force by not being observant. It's how he was able to spot snipers hidden away when no one else was able to see them, how he managed to save his soldiers from nearly stepping on a mine and getting blown to bits. He had to be observant in this line of duty if he wanted to keep himself and his team alive. He clutched the steering wheel with a sigh and silently wished that he brought his cigars with him. They have been driving for a good thirty minutes now. Price was given intel about another group of hostiles a few miles from the base he immediately rounded up the team and headed out after.

He looked up as he heard the sound of chuckling. Soap had his phone out, screen tilted towards ghost as he lent into his side. He could see the younger man practically beaming as he did. Both seemed to be in their own little world, nothing existing but each other. He wasn't stupid, he could tell that they liked each other. Anyone with eyes could tell that it was obvious except the two idiots themselves. He could see the way they softly touched each other, the way they laughed at the other's bad jokes, or how if one was in a sour mood the other would immediately know how to brighten them up.

"Captain, sharp turn ahead," Gaz said.

The older man simply held tightly onto the wheel and made a sharp turn. The tires screeched as they turned.

"Shite!" Johnny yelled out as he tried to not lose his balance and hit his head on the window behind him.

Ghost lurched forward but immediately slammed his hands on the window so as to not lose his balance. He looked down to see a very flustered Soap underneath him. Two stared at each other, completely enamored.

"Looks like you've fallen for me, eh Lt?" Soap joked with a shit-eating grin.

Ghost blinked at him, his face heating up behind the mask.

"Shut up, Soap," he said as he sat back down, though there wasn't any bite to it.

Ghost looked up to see Price looking at him through the rearview mirror. Their eyes were locked in a sense of understanding.

The captain laughed and continued to stare out at the road.

"You did that on purpose, didn't you?" Gaz said with a smirk.

"Don't know what you mean, Sergeant," he responded.

Gaz laughed at his captain's fake obliviousness. "Whatever you say, old man."
