Chapter Text
The woman’s body flew up so high that Felix was sure she was dead. But he didn’t see her land. The bodyguards grabbed him and Han, directing them out of the street.
“Is she okay?” Han asked, and that’s when they swore they heard her body land. Both Felix and Han tried to turn back, but they were strong-armed away. Everyone was. Felix found himself next to Chan, who grabbed his arm tightly.
“What about…”
“Not now,” Chan hissed. “We’ll get somewhere safe. Someone else will stay with her.” It was harsh, but Chan was paler than usual and his grip too tight. He was definitely worried. They were all crowded into one hotel room, so they’d be easier to watch.
“It wasn’t like it was an attempt on our lives,” Lee Know said, even though his eyes looked wider than usual. “Why are they acting like we’re going to get shot?”
“It’s a precaution,” Seungmin sighed, as he rubbed his face with one hand. I.N leaned on his shoulder, looking a little shellshocked. Felix sat between Changbin and Hyunjin, while Chan paced in front of the window. The concert wasn’t until the next day. Today was supposed to be their day off. They’d been going back to the hotel when…
“She did save our lives, right?” Han lifted his eyes and met Felix’s gaze. “She pushed us out of the way?”
Everyone nodded around them.
“She screamed for you to look out,” Changbin explained. “That’s when we all looked back in time to see her shove you both.” He shook his head and looked over at Chan. “Super human Stay strength, I guess.” Everyone laughed awkwardly. Everyone but Chan. He looked out the window and swallowed thickly.
“We might not have died,” Felix said. He got up to stand next to Chan, who pulled him in for a hug. “I really hope she’s okay.” Out the window, they saw the lights from an ambulance.
Chan clapped his hands together when everyone gathered the next morning. “Alright. They cleared us for a quick visit before the concert, but since she’s unconscious, I don’t think we all need to go.” They’d gotten a call late that night. The woman was alive and out of surgery. Multiple broken bones, a concussion, and she appeared to be in a coma.
“Obvious Felix and me are going,” Han said as he stood. “You too, Chan?” He nodded and looked over the group.
“Anyone else?”
Lee Know lifted his hand. “I’ll go too. Just a quick visit?” Everyone nodded. They really just wanted to see the woman and make sure she was actually alive. Felix could still see her body flying into the air. Han could still hear the sound of her landing. They would be off their game for the concert if they weren’t reassured. Plus, the woman was clearly a Stay.
At the hospital, there was a guard posted outside the woman’s door. The manager let them into the room and they all gathered around the woman’s bed. Casts on her right leg and left arm, bandages over other sections, but there were also visible scratches.
Felix went right up to the bed, leaned closer and whispered, “Thank you.” Han went to her other side and took her hand. Chan stepped aside with their manager.
“They don’t know when she’ll wake up,” the manager whispered.
“What’s with the guard?” Chan asked, though he was pretty sure he knew.
“The fans kept trying to get in to see her. Some even lied and said they were her family.”
“How do you know they weren’t?” Chan asked. He looked at the guys, who were talking to the woman like she could hear them.
“She aged out of the foster system. She doesn’t have any family.”
Lee Know overheard and stepped over to them. “So, have they made contact with anyone?”
The manager shook his head. “She worked from home, didn’t have close friends, and rarely left the house.”
“Except to come to our concert?” Chan asked. When the manager nodded, Chan couldn’t help feeling even more guilty. “We’re covering all bills, right?”
“Yes. And JYP has already released a statement.”
They were sometimes quick to act, which Chan was super grateful for. The fans had been going crazy online thinking one of the members was hurt or dying.
“What’s her name?” Felix asked from the woman’s bedside.
“Y/N.”
Chan leaned against the wall and watched Felix and Han talk to the unconscious woman.
“Don’t beat yourself up,” Lee Know said to him suddenly. Chan frowned and look over at him. “Don’t lie. You’re thinking the woman wouldn’t have gotten hurt if she wasn’t a Stay.”
Of course she wouldn’t have. She wouldn’t have left her house. To top it all off, she was hurt because she saved two members. No matter what happened, Chan would take responsibility for the woman. But at least she was alive.
