Work Text:
Kaede woke up, and just like every morning she stretched before getting out of bed, rubbing her eyes and walking to the door, except something was different. Everything was different. The entire layout of her room was changed, and actually, this wasn't her room at all. Not in the slightest! It sent her into a split second of panic before she realized exactly what was going on, she was kidnapped. And this? Was months ago. At the start of the new season, the greatest season they ever could have planned! And these kids have been trapped for so long falling to every little motive there was.
No one trusted anyone, not in this twisted funked up world. Who knows when the last time they were out of here was? No one could ever know. Days passed and they rarely ever talked, and that really got Monokuma going. Every motive, it was all lazy and drawn out in the end. So this time he planned for something bigger, something better, something to really hit this season with a bang!
"Ding Dong Bing Bong" the announcements went. "Attention everyone, report to the gymnasium, STAT!"
They all groggily got out of their rooms and went to the gym, some more excited than others, to see what all was going on. When they got there, they all stood and waited, still tired at the sudden wake up, and patiently waiting for whatever was about to be said. Suddenly, Monokuma sprung up practically out of nowhere and the monokubs immediately right behind. "GOOOOOOD MORNING EVERYONE!" His voice echoed through the room. The monokubs all looked cheerfully gleeful. Monophanie looked up to Monokuma, "Oh father, what do you have planned for today?" Monokuma snickered.
"Since no one seems to be getting along, I've devised a plan that takes a little… teamwork." He chuckled maniacally. A voice could be heard from the back of the group of students, it was Angie's. "Oh, teamwork? Perhaps a game? This is so exciting!" Monokuma huffed, "Yes yes, I love your enthusiasm, now quiet down and let me explain!" He yelled angrily swinging his arms around.
"We're having…" he paused. Kokichi crossed his arms, "well?" "Let me have my dramatic pause!" Monokuma waved his arms again. Miu blurted out, "Well hurry it up!" Monotaro argued back, "Hey, don't yell at my daddy!" Kiibo waved his hands, "Hey now we don't need to fight?!" And of course, they fought anyway. The gym filled with yelling and swears, words blurting out left and right here and there.
It was all cut off with one, simple, phrase:
"EVERYONE QUIETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!"
The gym immediately went quiet, except for a few chuckles. "As I was saying, we're having a HALLOWEEN PARTY! and you're all being PAIRED UP!" Kokichi put his hands on his hips, "And what are you going to do if we don't participate? Kill us?" He grinned. Monokuma answered, "Precisely!" A wave of gasps went over the students.
Suddenly, a colorful spinning wheel fell from practically nowhere. "Phuhuhu.. now let's see who our teams are!" He spun the wheels, each student's eyes filled with a mix of excitement and fear as the colors went round and round.
It landed on the first one, a bright yellow, for Angie! And spun around again and again before landing on a dark brooding green, Korekiyo! "Looks like our first pairing is Korekiyo and Angie!" Monokuma announced. Angie jumped, "Oh, this'll be fun!! Just like sugar and spice!" Miu remarked, "More like salt and pepper. Both equally bad!" She laughed. Angie smiled, "Oh, good idea Miu!" Miu held her middle finger up, "It wasn't a funkin' compliment!"
The wheel spun again. A punk and purple, perfect for the Luminary of the Stars, Kaito! And it spun again until it landed on a lighter shade of gray blue, sparking Kiibo! Kaito put his fists together, "Alright, this'll be fun!" Kokichi spoke up, "I almost feel sorry for you Kaito, having to work with a Robot must be sooo hard because it can't have ideas!" Kiibo remarked angrily, "Was that a robophobic remark!? And I'm more than capable of having ideas!"
As the two were fighting, the colors went around for a third time. Gonta and Ryoma! A perfect pair… somehow.
For a fourth the colors spinned and spinned, landed now on a dark bloody red and an olive green. Maki huffed, "Do I have to?" Kokichi had his signature smile on his face, "Wow, Maki! With that sort of attitude you could be a witch!" Rantaro chuckled, "And I could be a sandddd-wich. ..no?"
The wheel spun again, Himiko and Tsumugi. Himiko looked to the side, "Nyeh… I've never made a costume before." Tsumugi beamed, "No worries Himiko, I've got us covered!" And it spun again, landing on Kirumi and Tenko. Excitement from all the groups was practically beaming through the walls.
And finally we got to the last four. Kokichi, Kaede, Miu, and Shuichi. Secretly, the couples each wished they could be paired with one another, but in the end, that just wasn't the case.
Kokichi frowned, "So where's my group huh?" He whined. Miu put her hands on her hips and blurred out, "Calm your tits, everyone, we'll find out soon enough!"
And the wheel spun, suspense rising for the four as they waited for their pairings. It felt like it just keep going on and on forever, never stopping, until finally- it matched Kokichi with Kaede, and Shuichi with Miu.
Miu put her finger up, "Looks like you and me are gonna be working together shoe-ichi!" Kaede beamed, "This is going to be so much fun! But, I don't know how we go together?" Shuichi questioned, "Why don't do you as a cat and mouse?" Miu yelled over him, "Hey, stop giving the other team funkin' ideas!" Kokichi smiled, "Wowwwww Miu, competitive already? Well if you wanna be a pussy we can let you two be the rodent and feline." Kaede let out an awkward chuckle, "Well it's still a good idea, what about a white rabbit? Oh I know, and the Cheshire Cat! Just like Alice in Wonde-"
"HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY!" Monokuma yelled furiously. "YOU CAN'T SAY THAT NAME, WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO? GET US DEMONETIZED?" Kaede was just taken aback with confusion.
Now I'll leave you all to that- and remember,
YOU HAVE SEVEN DAYS!
And just as suddenly as Monokuma appeared, he just as quickly left. Each monokub following behind, soon leaving the student in the now quiet, calm, empty gym.
So the students all go back to their rooms, all fairly complying. It’s just like any event they have been part of before. Another same old, chaotic, messy, event. But, perhaps we should embrace that this time?
There’s about an hour or so until curfew, and a certain four each sneak out each going their old directs. Shuichi and Kokichi meet up in the gym, while Miu and Kaede meet up in the library.
Kaede’s sitting on a chair, book open to whatever page, yet she’s not reading. Her eyes drifting elsewhere, she seems zoned out. Miu walks over and snatches the book out of her hands, “Hey! I thought you were going to be paying attention to me?”
Kaede looked up at her and smiled, “Hey baby, yeah sorry I got lost in thought.” She looked to the side and sighed. Miu’s angry expression showed a bit of concern before she walked over closer to Kaede, sitting in her lap. Then pulling Kaede’s chin so that the two were facing each other. “What’s wrong?” Kaede awkwardly smiled, “Nothing’s wro-“ “WRONG ANSWER!” Miu interrupted. “Tell me what’s wrong. Something’s wrong, and you know it! Now what is it, or am I going to have to kiss the answer out of you?” Miu leaned in for a kiss as Kaede giggled.
Of course her giggling smile didn’t last long, as she soon sighed again and looked back to the ground, wrapping her arms around Miu and pulling her girlfriend close. Miu looked at her sternly again, “Okay, now you have to tell me what’s wrong, or am I going to try to kiss it out of you again?”
Kaede looked up at her, “It’s just…” Miu waited patiently for her answer. She was usually really loud, active, talkative, and provocative. Usually towards Kokichi, who would annoy her the most so she would bother him right back. Except when it came to Kaede, she could make exceptions, listening carefully to her every word, hearing what she had to say. ESPECIALLY if she thought it was something that might be about her.
Kaede continued, “I feel like I should do something about us being forced to do all these activities.” Miu rolled her eyes, “Oh come on dear, it’s not even that bad! We just play along until it stops and-“ “but it’s not going to stop!” Kaede cried, cutting Miu off.
“We should do something about this, they’ve done too much to us for us to not!” Kaede continued, determination beaming through her angered face. Miu looked at her annoyed.
Meanwhile in the gym, a certain couple laid sat on the floor. And by that, one of the boys ran and jumped into the other’s arms, while the other was very much so prepared.
While the boy beneath regathered himself, the other was on top of him giggling, soon getting up to pull the other towards him. Shuichi looked at Kokichi with a smile, and the two of them laughed. However Shuichi’s laugh faded away as his eyes drifted.
Kokichi caught on and looked at the boy, using both hands to turn his face to his. “Shu, what’s wrong?” He pouted, “tell me tell me tell me!”
Shuichi sighed, “I’m just worried about this Halloween party, that’s all.” He looked at the other boy with a “reassuring” smile. Kokichi frowned, “What’s to worry about? It’s going to go perfectly as planned!” Shuichi looked to the ground again, “that’s what I’m worried about” he sighed. It was an awkward silence between both couples.
Suddenly, it felt just as though a shared thought went between Kaede and Kokichi, and now they just HAD to share it with their respective other halves. “Well what if we sabotage it?”
Shuichi looked at Kokichi with a slight hint of confusion in the glare of his eyes, “That… actually might work.” Kokichi looked at him, “Woah?! My super smart boyfriend supporting something dangerous?! I knew you had it in you Shuichi!” He beamed. Shuichi frowned, “That’s not what I-“
Meanwhile Miu looked at Kaede, “Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!” She smiled, “Knew you could figure something out, hotcakes!” She looked at her seriously for a second. “I get to help, right?”
Kaede looked at her, “Yeah, and I think I have just the right plan to do this…”
The next morning the four of them met up. Kaede trusted to work with Shuichi, Kokichi wanted to help, and Miu wanted to tag along. Both thought they were introducing the idea to the rest of the group, but surprisingly it worked out well. So after a bit of planning, they came up with an idea…
They only have a few days to do this before the big party, and there’s no time to spare! With Kaede’s directions, (and Ouma’s great leading skills), they were sure to do this!
It was simple. Step number one: bother everyone! They had to provoke the mastermind, who exactly? That’s right, they don’t know! So it’s time to get to bothering EVERYONE!
Miu went up to Angie, ready to put this plan into action! Angie could be annoying sometimes, and it seemed Miu just reflected that. Angie gleamed, “Oh hello Miu, how are you?” What could she do? Mock. “oH hEllO mIu, hOw aRe yOu?” And that went on… for a WHILE.
Kokichi went up to Korekiyo, Kaede following behind. Kokichi whispered, “Hey Korekiyo, you know you got repaired with Ryoma right?” Korekiyo frowned under his mask, “Ouma, that seems highly unlikely, you think I am such a fool to fall for that? Surely Monokuma-“ Kaede bounced right between them and interrupted. “He’s telling the truth! I was there, watched the whoolllllle thing with my own two eyes! Monokuma repaired you and said so himself!” Korekiyo frowned, “Ah, well in that case..” but Kokichi and Kaede had already run off to continue their jobs.
Next was Kirumi, and Shuichi had that covered. Shuichi put his hands together and walked up to her while she was cleaning up the kitchen. Ready to do whatever it took. Ready to bother. Except… he couldn’t do it. He had no clue how to do it by himself. They just washed the dishes together.
After that, together Kokichi and Shuichi went up to Rantaro to get this plan together. Kokichi jumped forward, “Rantaro! Did you hear, they canceled the party!” Rantaro turned to him with a bit of an amused face, “Oh really now, did they?” Clearly taking Kokichi’s words as a joke. Shuichi shyly spoke up, “Yeah, Monokuma said it himself, they just didn’t have the budget.” Now Rantaro had a bit of shock on his face. “Oh really, are you sure?” Kokichi smiled, “Yep!” Rantaro turned the other way, “Huh, weird, wonder why they would announce if they couldn’t do it.” He looked back up at the other boys. “Well thanks for telling me!” Before walking off. Success!
Gonta was next on the list, and Kaede was following right behind. Kaede walked up to him, “Gonta! So what were you thinking we should do for the Halloween party?” Gonta looked at her confused, “Huh? But Gonta thought him and Ryoma were paired?” Kaede looked with fake confusion in her eyes, her face, her expression, her voice, her everything. Completely selling the idea, despite she could have smiled to do it anyway. “Oh, didn’t you hear? We got switched to work together! But I’ll go double check!” She said, before running off.
Shuichi went to go have the talk with Ryoma next, failing again because he was alone. Ryoma saw right through him, but don’t worry, he wouldn’t say anything.
Kaede and Shuichi went up to Kaito together, Kaito here to trust his sidekick, unfortunately only to be misled in the end.
Unfortunately, Kiibo had to deal with Kokichi and Miu for quite awhile. And by awhile, at least 5 hours of pestering as a matter of fact. Poor Kiibo.
Tsumugi was up next to be bothered, and boy was she unlucky to be another unfortunate victim fallen to be bothered by Ouma.
Tenko was next, obviously Kaede went up first. Soon Miu followed behind, and the anger brought from her, may or may not be the fuel they need for the plan.
Maki was unfortunately bothered by Miu. Though to be fair, when is she not bothered by anybody? Luckily it wasn’t Kokichi, he would’ve ended up dead.
Miu and Shuichi went to Himiko, and maybe it’s a good thing these two won’t ever have to be paired again.
After all that, everyone was confused, and furious! All gone perfectly to a tee!
Okay now it was time for Step Number 2: The costume switch!
Secretly, the four snuck into the other room, replacing all of Tsumugi’s carefully made costumes with some… not so nice quality ones. They still looked like they could be right folded up, but the real deal? Not so much, not as all, and that’s just what they wanted!
Gonta and Ryoma were just simple sheets with holes, perfect for ghosts, and perfect for time management. Himiko and Tsumugi were pretty easy too, they just stole an old red cloak and had some wolf ears to go with it. For whatever reason it was Miu owned a wolf ear headband, don’t question it. Kaito’s was easy to do, just a bodysuit with a cardboard cut out of a cloud with a lightning strike coming from it taped right on. Kiibo? …he didn’t need any changes.
Now it’s starting to get a BIT more difficult.
Kirumi and Tenko were dresses with cardboard cutouts taped on, and some kitchen tools as well. Luckily the party was soon, because otherwise Kirumi would have noticed the silverware missing from the kitchen.
Maki had a traditional, cheap witch’s outfit and an old rake in replacement. Rantaro? A box with felt and fabric glued on, hot glue dried up on the edges that had seeped out, each piece of fabric representing a different layer. What does each color mean? Who knows, hopefully the sharpie was clear enough.
Angie and Kiyo were boxes, just boxes. Lots of boxes, each colored, painted, scribbled, drawn, glued, and put together with lots of love (and effort) to make… off brand spices! Pepper and salt? Yeah, as if. It was leaning a bit yellow and the gray was green but at this point who cares! Green is Korekiyo’s color anyway, and hey maybe it’s just moldy?
And finally we have our four.
Shuichi, a black bodysuit, cat ears, cat tail, and a black box. Miu, wearing what practically looked like a makeshift bathing suit and fishnet tights, thrown together with a tail and mice ears. We had a rodent and mammal, mouse and cat, cat and mouse.
Kokichi and Kaede were similar, the same but just with a twist, Alice in Wonderland Edition! Except not exactly , because they don’t have the money to buy the rights for that. Striped cat and bunny with a stopwatch was close enough!
Finally, here it was, the big day.
All this effort put into their plan, there’s no way it could be wasted now. And it wasn’t, because it was a total
SUCCESS!
The party was cool, grim, and gruesome. Looked professionally decorated, and DANGEROUS! Real axes on the walls, swinging pendulums, and don’t forget the spiked punch! Which wouldn’t be as dangerous, if it didn’t have actual spikes in it.
And just as their costumes brought this party to a fall, (everyone confused), the four snickered away in the back as Monokuma began to panic.
Ratings dropped, nothing like the skyrocket they expected.
And soon the v3 season came to an end.
The closing credits done, all 16 students rode the bus back to their homes, free of the season, back to live their normal lives. Miu and Kaede could finally be together, and Ahuichi and Kokichi would have kissed if Shuichi liked PDA. But that wasn’t about to stop Kokichi.
All 16, on their way to go home.
But in the end, who was the mastermind?
