Chapter 1: is that you on that plane

Chapter Text

Bakugō Katsuki loves spicy food.

The burn on his tongue, how his whole being comes alive for those blissful few minutes.

Was it too much to ask for that feeling all the time? And sure yeah, he’s not the most romantic guy out there but he’s seen enough of those terrible rom-coms with his hag of a mother to know that dating someone should be exciting. His blood should boil and his thoughts should only be about consuming more.

Yet, he’s been stuck with fucking Deku. Like a bad cold, the other young man is hard to shake. It doesn’t help that their mothers are best friends and have forced them together since they were babies. He’d only said yes to this date because he wouldn’t hear the end of it from his witch mother, but regret sits heavily on his shoulders when Deku shows up to his door fifteen minutes early, wearing a full on suit, and holding a rather large bouquet of flowers.

Annoyance rattles in Katsuki’s ribcage. If he were someone else, maybe this display would do something for him. Make him soften. Instead, he hardens and practically slams the door shut off its hinges. Deku looks startled, but the awkward smile doesn’t leave his thin lips. Katsuki considers swatting the flowers out of Deku’s hands but just barely manages to hold himself back. No doubt his behavior will get back to his mom, and he’s planning on asking her for a favor after this ordeal.

“Let’s get this over with, Deku,” he says aloud, snatching the flowers away from Deku. He places them on his porch. “Lead the way.”

Deku’s mouth opens and closes a few times before he offers a shy smile. “Thank you again for saying yes Kacchan; you have no idea how happy I was when you sent me that text! I ran downstairs and had to tell mom right–“

“If we don’t get going in sixty seconds, I’m walking back inside my apartment.”

Deku’s back straightens and he offers another sheepish grin. “S-S-Sorry… I’m just so…!” He shakes his head and gestures toward his parked car. “After you!”

Katsuki takes another deep breath before forcing himself toward the car. It feels like a death march.

When Katsuki presents as an Omega, his mother couldn’t be happier. After all, Omegas are rarest of the rare and treated like gods; they’re the only ones that can conceive without major complications. Not like Katsuki ever planned on having children, which he’d decided when he learned about secondary traits. Around that time he also decided that he would be an Omega, the best and most desirable Omega, ever.

His first heat hits him like a truck one summer’s day. He’d just gotten home from beating Deku literally into the dirt over a game of kickball. Of course he won the little skirmish, as always, and he was feeling satisfied with himself. Until suddenly he was too hot to make his way upstairs to his room. He stumbled instead toward the couch and felt a twisting in his gut and excruciating pain in his pelvis. Though he knew this would happen on some level if he presented as an Omega, the intensity of it was more than he expected.

When his father came home, he found Katsuki rubbing his newly formed pussy on the armrest in a haze of arousal and need.

His mother of course was over the moon because just a few months before, Deku had presented as an Alpha. And though Omegas were now allowed free choice of their partners, whether they be Alpha, Beta, or another Omega, it was still expected that Omegas end up with Alphas.

Which, if it weren’t for Deku, Katsuki wouldn’t mind dating an Alpha. But the only Alpha he knew until they graduated a few months ago, was Deku. Those with secondary traits made a small population worldwide. It was one of the reasons why, when the time came, Katsuki applied to study abroad for university. To get away. To find other Alphas. To be alive.

Of course Deku can’t stop crying as Katsuki waits in line to board the plane. Can’t believe the fucker paid for some random ticket just to come back this far. Katsuki chooses to ignore how much that must have cost, otherwise something heavy like guilt will settle in his gut. Instead, he rolls his eyes and punches Deku’s shoulder before offering a smirk. “Maybe you’ll finally find the perfect Omega while I’m gone, knothead.”

Deku blushes at the insult as always much to Katsuki’s delight, but his lips still quiver and his eyes look no less glassy. “Are you sure you have to go Kacchan? American schools aren’t even as good as–“

“So you’re saying your mentor went to shitty schools?” Katsuki taunts, crossing his arms.

Deku pales comically fast. “Of c-c-course not! All Might is–“

“Boarding for flight 7167 to New York City, United States of America.”

Katsuki lets himself grin honestly at the sound of the announcer. He looks toward Deku and shrugs his shoulders. “Guess this is it. Tell ma and auntie that I’ll call when I land.”

And then Katsuki turns his back on it all.
