Chapter Text
The room was way too hot right now, he wanted to get out as fast as possible and go somewhere else, somewhere dark and cool. He felt like he was sweating so badly, maybe even through the dress he was wearing. It was too much… Without thinking further, he raised his hand and practically begged the teacher to let him leave, before getting up and hurrying off down the hall, backpack tossed over his shoulder. He peaked around and darted into a supply closet he frequented to escape commotion when he was overwhelmed. It wasn’t like didn’t enjoy things being loud, but with multiple things stimulating his senses at the same time, he sometimes needed to decompress.
Right now, trying to focus on school and deal with the STIFLING heat was just too much. In the closet, it was dark and cool, he leaned back on the one area of the wall that wasn’t lined by supplies and exhaled. This closet was well loved, often he met up with Alex here and they’d hang out for a little bit, but Alex would always run off so he wouldn’t be late or get in trouble. If his mom found out he skipped class, they were both sure she’d flip and ground him. She was totally biased towards Gene being a bad friend too, though she was always deceptively friendly.
Alex had told him she thought he was a negative influence on her baby boy and that he should not take advice from someone “like him.” Of course, Gene didn’t care about her opinions, even if they were extremely questionable, he only cared if Alex still liked him and wanted to spend time with him. He loved spending time with Alex and they’d been getting so close lately, finding out weird things about one another, having more sleepovers, and excessive inside jokes. It was nice for Gene to have someone so close to him and only him. He had other friends, but they were all friends with his sisters first. Alex was HIS friend, but also Gene felt a very special connection between them, something that was unique and unexplainable.
He realized he was getting lost in thought about Alex and had to just take a deep breath and close his eyes in the dark room. Unfortunately it was getting kinda stuffy already, but there was nothing else to bother him so it was something he could handle. Slowly, he let his mind be empty and he slipped down to sit on the floor, cherishing how cool the smooth cement felt on his bare thighs. It was great here, just vanishing from the world for a little bit, having personal time to decompress. After he relaxed, he’d be back to face the world and the heat again, with a smile on his face, following his own beat.
The sound of the period change bell struck and his eyes flew open, staring at the door as he heard the sound of kids leaving classrooms and hundreds of feet trampling through the hallways. He didn’t wanna get up and throw himself out into that, so he just stayed still, like if he moved someone would know he was in here and come to look. Gene rested his head back on the wall, holding himself in place until the warning bell rang and the foot traffic grew much slower and the chatter grew quiet, allowing him to relax again.
However, the sound of the doorknob turning had him alert, blinking a few times as it swung open, revealing Alex before him. “Oh my god…. No way! Aren’t you gonna be late for class?” Gene asked from where he sat, pushing himself up onto his knees as he stared at the larger boy.
Alex laughed at the reaction, smiling as he entered the closet and shut the door behind him. “Yeah… but I just seriously do not want a history lesson today. The heat already has me miserable.” He leaned back on the closet door.
Gene stood up and grinned big, eyes adjusted to the dark by now so he could see Alex towering over him even as he leaned. “Hey, me too! It’s awful today. I swear they have no AC in this place.” Gene groaned, but still got closer and hugged his friend.
“Geeene…” Alex whined lightly, his low voice cracking, but he didn’t tell him to stop, he just embraced Gene close to his body and smiled to himself. “You’re such a teddy bear.”
“And I’m cute like one too!” Gene laughed, nuzzling his face in Alex’s chest and breathing his scent in. He smelled like cheap body spray, a little deodorant, and sweat.
“Gene! Are you sniffing me?” Alex chuckled now, shaking his head at his friends blatant flirtatious behavior.
“Yesssss, you stink GOOD!” Gene rubbed his hands over Alex’s chest and shoulders, humming in delight. “Ah, I wish we had a bed. I wanna lay on you and snuggle right now. Like totally naked with a fan on us.”
Alex sputtered awkwardly, lightly patting Gene’s back. “Well, okay then weirdo… Stop it.” Alex shook his head, smiling fondly.
“Man, but your smell is just so comforting. I love it.” Gene sniffed him now like a dog, standing up on his tippy toes to get to Alex’s neck and nuzzle his skin and flippy brunette hair. “Let’s ditch school and go outside. I wanna feel the breeze on my legs and the wind in my hair.”
“I’m already ditching this class period, if I ditch another one there’s no way-“ Alex started, but Gene stopped him.
“Do you seriously wanna stay here in the closet for an hour? It’s gonna get so hot!” Gene batted his eyelashes at Alex. It was already getting way warmer in here with them both, Gene was right… “And if we leave for one period and you wanna come back, we can wait until the bell rings and slip in and blend with the crowd, huh?”
Alex pursed his lips, his hand still resting on Gene’s back, but drifting down to the middle. “…Agh, fine. You’re right. We are gonna die here, it’s too hot.”
Gene jumped and threw up his fists, pumping them in the air before he patted Alex’s chest.
“Alright, let’s do this.” He smirked and narrowed his eyes, scooting Alex out of the way to stand behind him. Slowly, he turned the door knob and cracked it open, peering out the gap into the hallway. Totally empty. He looked both ways before glancing back and nodding. “Okay, let’s go.” Gene took Alex’s hand, pulling him from the closet and hurrying down the hallway with him. They skidded around the corner, seeing the doorway at the end of the hall, but Mr. Branca was crossing the hall at the same time, walking in front of the entrance to the school, humming a tune to himself.
Quickly, Gene halted and back stepped, pushing Alex against the lockers and pinning him there for a moment. Alex held his breath and stared down at Gene, unable to stop his eyes from glancing down at how nice his breasts looked in the dress he wore and how good they looked pushed up against his chest. God, he got a boner so fast then, but the nerves were keeping him relatively present, so when Gene looked up at him and said they were good to go, he started to move his feet. They hurried down the hall and threw the doors open, accosted by the breeze from the nearby ocean immediately. It was still warm outside, but much better in the open air.
They both sighed and headed around to the backside of the school, avoiding windows and hurrying past doors. There were no windows at the back of the school, so they walked to the brick wall and rested against it.
“Oh, it’s so much better out here…” Alex breathed, closing his eyes. “I’m actually glad you convinced me to come outside. It makes me realize how terrible the temperature is in the school. It was miserable.”
“Look, we are hefty, the heat doesn’t agree with us and the school’s air conditioning is crap.” Gene fanned himself and looked over at Alex. “Plus, school is just lame.”
Alex nodded, “Well, you don’t really like school at all, so that’s not surprising.”
“I’d much rather be making some tunes or writing a story or something. It’s not that often I get to write what I want to in school. Usually it’s like ‘Gene, stop writing all that weird nonsense and write about this old guy who was racist and dumb.’” He scooted closer to Alex and leaned his head on his shoulder.
“I know, I know. You’re just a free spirit, not fit for all this rigid structure.” Alex fondly said, looking down at Gene who was peeking back up at him too. Immediately, Alex’s face reddened and Gene giggled at the sight. “Awww, you’re so cute when you blush like that.” Gene stood up straight and stepped in front of Alex, pinning him to the brick wall like they’d been against the lockers before, but Gene was smirking up at him now. “Wanna make out?”
Alex’s mouth dropped open, eyes widening in surprise.
“Oh my god, I didn’t think your face could get any redder, but I was WRONG.” Gene slid his hands down Alex’s chest and grabbed his wrists, putting Alex’s large hands on his hips before slipping his own arms around Alex’s neck.
“But, we might- It’s-“ Alex couldn’t formulate a sentence, he was focused on Gene’s lovely hips and the way they felt beneath his hands, yet again seeing those breasts pushed up against him.
“Come on~! Alex, I wanna kiss you!” Gene fluttered his eyelashes and wiggled his hips a little bit. He couldn’t get closer, Alex was too much taller than him.
“Mmm… okay, okay. Yes, alright.” He gave in, swooned by the sweet look on Gene’s face, “You’re just too pretty, I can’t say no.”
Gene grinned big, giddy that he was here right now, melting into Alex as the larger boy closed the gap between them. Like magic, Gene felt warmth pool in his stomach and his chest tighten, heart pounding in his chest. That Alex could say something so amazing, then kiss him so perfectly was just insane. Maybe he was biased because he was absolutely so into this guy, just embarrassingly attracted to him, but he LOVED the way Alex kissed him.
Alex slipped his arms around Gene’s waist, resting one hand on the small of his back and the other caressed down his hip and back up to the mid back. Their lips caressed against one another’s slow, but determined. Alex’s lips were a little chapped and his stumble was a bit scratchy, but Gene loved it. Gene’s face was smooth and soft, his lips a little sticky and flavored like strawberry, Alex’s favorite lip gloss Gene wore. It made Gene taste like candy and he always wanted to just eat him up, call him a pretty girl and shove him up against the wall.
Gene parted his lips and swiped his tongue against Alex’s mouth, instantly coaxing his lips apart. Alex happily joined in and they intertwined their tongues together, growing more heated. It just felt so good, so easy to get lost in the sensation, in the boiling hormones and their warm bodies together.
“What! What are you two doing?!?” A familiar voice shrieked beside them, instantly breaking them apart from their kiss. It was Mr. Frond… of course. I just came out here to get some fresh air and- you-! Gene Belcher, I expect this sort of class skipping from you, but Alex Papasian? You’re a good kid!”
“I-I’m sorry, we- it was- ….” Alex trailed off, not knowing what to say. If he said they were hot and left to cool off, that would not explain the making out. Nothing could really explain that, it was obvious what it was.
“Hey, come on now. It’s not that big of a deal, right?” Gene shrugged, hand on one hip.
“Oh, it’s a big deal. Both of you, detention after school. Now let’s go. Back into class.” Mr. Frond demanded.
“No, I can’t get detention!” Alex said in exasperation, sighing hard and frowning.
“Well, you both should have thought about that before coming out here and….” Mr. Frond seemed a little flustered, “Just get back to class!”
Gene took Alex’s hand and pulled him along, like usual, walking past Mr. Frond to the double doors he’d come out of. Gene let Alex in first and looked back at the guidance counselor, smirking at him with confidence, smoothing his dress a little and then entering the school with Alex. The door shut behind them and they were left in the quiet of the hallway.
They started walking leisurely, both silent for a little bit, but Alex spoke first. “I can’t believe I got detention… my mom’s gonna be so livid.”
“I’m sorry Alex. I didn’t mean to get you in trouble. Look, we can make up something about where you were after school so she doesn’t find out.” Gene said kindly, but Alex huffed and crossed his arms. He just shook his head, saying nothing else. Right as they got to Alex’s classroom, the period bell rang and shifting could be heard in the class. The door flew open and everyone started pouring out. Alex gave a little wave and walked off to his next class, leaving Gene remorseful in the hallway.
The last class of the day was dreadful, just a total drag. Gene couldn’t focus at all. He wanted to get to detention already so he could talk to Alex and apologize again. The thought that Alex was pissed at him right now was so awful, it made him sick. He was antsy, tapping his foot, hardly able to listen to anything the teacher was saying to the class.
He decided to pass his time by trying to write down some thoughts on the obligatory paper he had in front of him, jotting down a few apologies he could say to Alex, some things they could do to trick his mom, but he crossed a lot of that stuff out, ending up doodling hearts with “Alex” in them or “A+G” or even writing out “Gene Papasian” and feeling a little swooned at the thought.
He started to crudely draw him and Alex holding hands, little hearts scribbled around their heads. He had his chin resting in his hand, elbow on the desk as he fondly smiled down at the paper before him. It inspired him to write some cheesy little song lyrics beside all his doodles that kept building up. He realized he’d drawn over the entire page and blushed at himself. He had to make sure Alex knew he was sorry and wasn’t angry with him. Gene loved him so much, he didn’t know what he’d do without him. Maybe he was being over dramatic, but he didn’t care.
The bell rang soon and Gene just stayed in his seat, waiting for a good while until everyone was up and leaving, he folded his paper up and held it before leaving the classroom. He had to meet up with Louise and tell her she had to leave without him. Gene walked the halls through the kids at their lockers, stopped at his own locker to grab his backpack, then tossed it over his shoulder and kept going.
Soon, he saw Louise in their usual spot and he waved at her as he got closer. “Hey girl, why the long face?” She said immediately, aware of Gene’s emotions cause he wasn’t exactly good at hiding them.
“I got detention.” Gene sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Oof, what’d you do huh?” She crossed her arms over her chest, still staring at him from where she leaned against the wall.
“I skipped 5th period, but I would have been fine if I hadn’t ended up running into Alex.” Gene pursed his lips.
“What, he ratted on you?” Louise raised an eyebrow, straightening up a bit in shock.
“No, no, it was MY fault. He skipped 5th too and it was just too hot in here, I convinced him to leave, then… you know, Mr. Frond caught us making out behind the school.” He groaned and leaned his head back, “I feel so stupid. Now Alex is mad at me cause he got detention too!”
“Oooooo, yikes, kiddo. Now that… That’s rough.” She shook her head and clicked her tongue a few times in disapproval.
“Well, boyfriend’s angry, better do something nice for ‘em. Least you got detention together to beg his forgiveness.” Louise pushed off the wall, “I’ll tell Mom and Dad when I get home. Don’t get in trouble again, mischief maker.” She laughed and patted Gene’s shoulder, before turning to leave the school. Gene just stood there for a while, holding the piece of folded up paper to his chest, wondering what to do.
Alex was outside the room where detention was held, wondering how mad his mom was gonna be when he got back. Maybe she was right to say that Gene was a bad influence on him. I mean, the only reason why he knew where the room for detention was held was because of Gene. He’d stopped by here to say goodbye to Gene before he’d left school multiple times.
In that moment of turmoil, he heard the one he’d been mentally discussing speak.
“Hey, Alex.” Gene said softly, standing a few feet away.
“Hi.” Alex replied simply, not making eye contact. He didn’t really feel like talking. Gene didn’t say anything else to him and he was glad for it at the moment.
They waited in silence while the hallways emptied and Mr. Frond showed up to unlock the door and let them in. Apparently it was just them today, cause he came in after them and sat down at the desk. “Now Gene, you know the drill, but Alex you can just work on homework or read. Whatever you want. Just stay quiet. This is detention. Don’t sit next to each other either. There’s plenty of desks.” He frowned at them both and set a book down on the teachers desk, “I’m disappointed in both of you. School is important, you know. Though I know you don’t think so, Gene.” He sighed and opened his book, starting to read.
Alex sat down and Gene sat one desk away from where he was. He put his backpack down and took out a math textbook and a notebook and started to do homework, feeling Gene eyeing him from where he sat, but he didn’t look over at him. Alex just wanted to focus on this.
Time was passing extremely slowly for Gene, cause he didn’t bother to do anything. He wouldn’t be able to focus and like hell he was doing any homework. He just tapped a beat out on the folded up piece of paper he’d been holding, thinking about all the things he wanted to say. Gene just wished they’d been able to keep kissing outside the school early, then none of this would have happened.
“Mr. Frond? Can I go to the bathroom?” Gene finally asked.
The counselor groaned then, setting his book down on the desk and standing up, “Fine, but I’m taking you there. I’m not letting you get out of detention.”
Gene got up too, accidentally bumping the folded up paper onto the floor as he headed to the door and they both left, the door closing behind them. Alex was alone now, which was nice for a bit, but he did find that he was thinking way too hard now. Something about having the other two in the room kept him focused on his schoolwork and now he had the space for his mind to wander… His eyes wandered too, looking around the room and spying the paper Gene had dropped on the floor. He blinked at it for a moment, contemplating picking it up, but he decided he should just leave it… okay, actually, he will just put it back on the desk Gene was sitting at.
Alex stood, going over to the next desk and leaning down to pick it up. He held it then, realizing this was the paper he’d seen Gene holding out in the hallway. It wasn’t for him though, so he set it down on the desk and stared. Maybe curiosity was getting the best of him… he wanted to look now. It was probably just doodles and Gene wouldn’t mind if he looked anyway.
He picked the paper up again from the desk and held it in his hands, slowly opening it like he was afraid of what was inside, while glancing at the door. When he did actually open it and he processed what was there, his face burned with embarrassment. He had not expected that. He brought the paper a little closer and fixed his glasses, scanning all of it.
There was a cute little drawing of him and Gene holding hands, hearts everywhere, even Gene’s name written out with Alex’s last name attached to it, but the most important part was all of the scribbled out apology attempts and the little poems or songs lyrics written in between all the other things. One of them read, “We’re just too different yet just so same. I know this probably sounds pretty lame. But I think you’re handsome, I think you’re cool. I’m sorry for what happened, outside the school.”
The words were crossed out and it was pretty dorky, but Alex found it extremely endearing. Some of the others were unfinished, just a single line here and there, but one of the others said, “Peanut Butter and Jelly, sticky and sweet, that’s you and I, on breads we meet. Good apart but better together, no matter if you’re under the weather. Can’t no combinations have us beat, we’re a snack and a treat!” Alex smiled warmly at the cheesy lyrics, his chest tightening and his heart skipping a beat. Gene really was sweet…
He knew Gene hadn’t meant to get them in trouble, Alex had just been frustrated and nervous about how his mom was going to react. He had been skipping class either way, without Gene’s help. The sound of people outside the door had him quickly refolding the paper, tossing it onto Gene’s desk and sitting down again at lightning speed. He put his cheek in his palm and picked up his pencil, looking down like he’d been there the whole time doing his work.
“Alright, go sit back down now. There’s still 30 minutes before you need to go home. Just TRY and do something, Gene.” Mr. Frond made a face as he sat down again.
“No promises, nooooo promises.” Gene grinned, heading back to his seat and flipping down. When Frond finally opened his book again, Gene glanced over to Alex, who was… Looking right at him? Gene’s eyes widened, then he pointed at himself in surprise.
Alex smiled at him and gave a little half wave, which Gene quickly returned, excited that Alex didn’t seem as mad anymore. He wanted to pounce into his lap and ask him if everything was alright, to kiss him all over the face and say, “God, Alex Papasian, I love you so freaking much, it hurts!” but he didn’t, he just had to wait.
As soon as Mr. Frond told them it was time to go, Gene leapt up and scampered over to Alex, crouching down by his desk as Alex put his homework away. “Alex, I’m sorry I got you in trouble.” He said honestly.
“It’s okay, Gene.” Alex replied, just as honest.
“Really?”
“Really.” Alex zipped his bag up and got up from the desk, “Don’t forget your stuff.” He laughed a little and Gene bopped his own forehead.
“Thanks, I’d forget so much without you.” He laughed and grabbed his bag and stuffed the folded piece of paper into it before tossing his bag on his shoulders.
Alex lightly took Gene’s hand and led him this time, walking them from the room while Mr. Frond watched after them in what was maybe contempt or confusion. (It was hard to tell, but it didn't matter.)
“Don’t worry about the detention. We both skipped class, you didn’t force me to do it.” Alex assured, looking down at Gene.
“Okay… cool.” Gene replied, surprised by the change of heart but happy for it. “Hey Alex?” He asked, meeting eyes as he looked up.
“Yeah?”
“I love you, like an embarrassing amount.” Gene admitted, receiving a slow, but joyful laugh, “What?! Don’t laugh, I mean it!” He blushed hard, crossing his arms over his busty chest.
“I know you mean it. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to laugh, I just… I’m excited that you told me, but I have to admit…” Alex trailed off, making Gene stop and blink at him, starting to feel extremely foolish. Was Alex really just laughing at him, thinking he was ridiculous?
“Earlier, when you left the room with Mr. Frond, you knocked that piece of folded up paper on the ground and I sorta picked it up and looked at it.” Alex admitted sheepishly, looking down and avoiding eye contact.
“Wh-… You looked at that? It was just- I couldn’t figure out what to say and- I’m- It’s-!” Gene tripped over his words, plummeting deeper into embarrassment.
“I loved your words. I loved your drawings too… I also love you, too. Seeing that paper made me realize I was being stupid. I’d happily skip any class to be with you.”
Gene completely stopped walking now, turning to face Alex entirely and grabbing his shoulders, looking up into his eyes. “You’re amazing.” He said, breathless.
Alex stood there and stared back, slowly resting his hands on Gene’s waist like they had earlier. “Come on, you’re being dramatic.”
“No, I’m not. You’re so smart and funny and you treat me well and you’re handsome, totally the full package with extras on the side.” Gene laughed a little and stood up on his tippy toes, sliding his arms around Alex’s neck.
Alex quickly grabbed Gene and spun him around, much more physically capable after his massive growth spurt a year back. He was glad for his height, he really liked being taller than Gene, being able to pick her up and twirl was an amazing feeling. The way Gene giggled and hid his cute face in Alex’s chest, thrilled by the action, fueled Alex to do it more. He even kissed Gene after he was back on the ground, so happy to taste that lip gloss again.
“Well, I’m already gonna be getting home late… Anything you wanna do first?” Alex asked, feeling indifferent towards his future consequences. Sometimes he forgot that his mother didn’t need to come first all the time in his life, he could do what he wanted to do. He is 15 now, he should be allowed to stay out after school for a while and spend time with his girlfriend.
“Ooooh, you’re being a bad boy, huh?” Gene raised an eyebrow and smirked at him.
“Yeah, I’m being a bad boy.” Alex laughed, holding the front door open to let Gene out, then he followed.
“Hmmm…” Gene thought for a moment, tapping a painted nail on his chin. “OH! I have some cash at the bottom of my bag I keep forgetting about! Let’s go get slushies!” He bounced at the idea, grabbing Alex’s arm.
“Fuck, that actually sounds amazing. Yes, yes, let’s do that right now.” Alex fixed his bag on his shoulder then took Gene’s hand and smiled down at him, admiring his profile as they walked.
Gene was so cute, sweet, goofy, and undeniably attractive. Her curves had filled out so much as they’d gotten older, making her bustier and curvier than all the others in the Belcher family. Seeing Gene next to them was always kinda shocking. They were a stocky family, but Gene was such an hourglass figure. He’d taken all the breasts, hips and ass from the rest of the family, especially Louise. Alex was always happy to walk behind Gene in school or look down at her when they were close together.
He was getting extremely distracted by Gene right now, not paying attention to where he was going at all. Thankfully, she had things under control and was watching where they were going, determined to get to the convenience store a few blocks away. Gene started humming a little tune, one that Alex hadn’t heard of didn’t recognize, but he liked it. He liked everything Gene wrote, songs or stories or lyrics.
Gene brought out the immaturity in him, made him laugh and smile more, something he found a lot harder these days. Gene even made him feel better about himself and his weight, while his mom was calling him fat and telling him he needed to eat healthier all the time. It wasn’t like they didn’t eat garbage, unseasoned nonsense all the time, but he was still like this! Gene said it’s “just who he is” and that “he’s handsome as hell and wouldn’t change a thing.” Those things he remembered all the time when he had to look in the mirror to fix his hair or get dressed in the morning. At least his best friend and girlfriend loved him for who he was. He loved Gene, even more right now than before. He finally spoke up, “I really loved all the things you wrote on that paper. Do you… think I could keep it?”
Gene looked up at him now, surprised, “What? Really? I mean, I guess. It was kinda stupid, but if you really want it, then sure, I’ll give it to you.” She leaned in now and rested her head against his upper arm, slipping her fingers around his arm and holding it close against her side. They walked like this for the next block until they reached the store and Gene excitedly scampered inside, pulling Alex along.
They went to the back wall with the slushy machines, grabbed cups and lids, then filled them up to the brim with a myriad of different flavors. Gene grabbed them both straws and handed Alex his before they walked up to the counter. Gene set his drink down and slipped his backpack off before unzipping it and reaching to the bottom. It took a few moments before he finally found a crumpled up five dollar bill, then unfolded it and smoothed it out on the counter.
He handed it to the clerk, who looked less than pleased but took the money wordlessly, then Gene threw the change back into the bottom of his backpack, then took out the piece of paper and handed it to Alex before zipping his bag up again. Gene tossed it back on her shoulders and shifted it to comfort before picking up his slushy. They walked out of the store together then, both happily sipping their drinks. Alex tucked the paper immediately into his back pocket, not wanting to lose it. He was gonna hang it up on his wall and look at it all the time.
“This was such a good idea.” Gene hummed, sipping his drink again as they strolled casually, without a purpose now. They were happily aimless, enjoying each other's company. The cold of the drink and the breeze in the air dramatically cut down on the summer heat and made it far more bearable. Alex reached between them and slipped his fingers into Gene’s hand, wrapping his larger hand around the others. Things felt so relaxed, so right. Gene just smiled and they kept walking, casually sipping their drinks and heading towards some unknown destination.
Eventually, they got to a small grassy park that was a few blocks away, with brick walls lining the edges. They followed the sidewalk into the park, admiring the trees, passing by anyone that was there without a glance. There were some young kids on the playground, yelling and laughing, while some parents talked with each other nearby. Alex and Gene just passed that by and headed to a bench beneath a few trees, taking a seat close to one another. “It’s a nice day now that we aren’t in school.” Gene finally said.
“I can agree with that for sure. If they wanted us to enjoy school, they’d at least need to fix the AC.” Alex retorted, shaking his head.
“Maybe that would be better for you, yeah.” Gene giggled and leaned his head on Alex’s shoulder.
They spent the next 20 minutes or so, just peacefully enjoying the shade and their sugary drinks. It wasn’t often Gene could be quiet this long, but Alex made him feel so calm and at ease. Things were easier with him around. Gene was even able to understand school way better than he used too. Alex was just so smart and he didn’t mind teaching Gene and he did it really well. People always got frustrated with him in the past. While Alex did occasionally get frustrated, it wasn’t because Gene couldn’t understand, but because he kept pestering Alex while he was focused.
“You make me so happy, Alex.” Gene nuzzled his face against Alex’s sleeve, breathing in his smell. He hummed in delight.
Alex slipped his arm around Gene’s shoulders now, pulling him up against his side and holding him close. He leaned in, keeping Gene near as he kissed those pretty lips.
“We should… go somewhere.” Alex offered hesitantly, “Somewhere more private?” His voice cracked in his nervousness, face turning red.
Gene blushed too though and grinned at him, nodding, “Yeah, but where? I mean… it’s not like there’s lots of places to have privacy out here.” He glanced around and contemplated for a little bit, “I wish we just had a place that was our own, even for just a little while.” Gene pursed her lips and looked lost in thought.
“Maybe the library?” Alex suggested, but immediately regretted it. He went there all the time, what if he got caught and was banned forever? That would be devastating
“No, too quiet… Hmm.” Gene put a finger on his chin and thought for a moment, contemplating it, then he gasped and his face lit up. “Okay, okay, now I don’t know if you’re down for it, might be a little too scary for you, but… there’s this house I know that has been for sale for a little while, they were having an open house just last week and the back door is unlocked. Louise and I snuck in there to check out the food situation during the open house and came back after everyone was gone and they totally forgot to lock the back door…. Sooooo, we could try and see if it’s still unlocked?”
“Isn’t that like breaking and entering?” Alex asked, nervous and weary about the idea, but he did want to have privacy with Gene right now.
“Not breaking! Just entering, I mean, we won’t break anything, probably.” Gene laughed and grinned at Alex, fluttering those long eyelashes.
“I dunno, Gene… What if someone catches us?”
“No one lives there! And if someone shows up we can just run out or hide!” Gene clasped his hands together.
Alex paused, looking down at his girlfriend's cute face, begging for acceptance and lost the will to say no to it. “Okay, alright, yeah, just don’t get us caught please.”
Gene bounced up and down, cheering and grabbing onto Alex’s arm.
“Let’s go! It’s a little further back towards the grassier part of town.” Gene pulled him along, always dragging Alex with him despite any of Alex’s nerves or unwillingness. Truly, it was good for Alex, he was too afraid to do anything and needed to spread his wings a little more.
