Chapter Text
I woke up to my alarm blaring.. Right, I got a new job at this fancy resturant called- uh- ‘La Guele De Saturn’- something.. I’m getting up early for employee training! I rushed outta bed, took a quick little shower, and threw my uniform on! Oh wait- I need to eat! I quickly tried to cook myself some cereal but I uh- burnt it .. This is why I’ll never be a chef! I quickly grabbed some toaster strudel and threw it in the toaster. I didn’t even bother putting the syrup on it. I rushed outside onto my bike and quickly biked to work..
I ate the toaster strudels along the way! I quickly entered the restaurant. I was a bit late but that’s not important!! “Oh wow, you actually showed up for training-“ a voice said, catching me off guard. It was my boss! I think- I turned to face him. “On time, too!” I said with a grin. “Barely..” My boss huffed out. He sighed. Whoops.. “This is a highly sought after position. Be grateful you’re even getting the benefit of being told how to do your job.” He said coldly.
“Your resume showed many… many jobs in the service industry so I assume you already have some of this down.” He says. He pauses. “Though I’m choosing to ignore the rate of which you got new positions-“ He says. Oh the nerve of this guy! “Hey! Having 28 service industry jobs over the course of 7 years is pretty impressive when you think about it!” I huffed out.
“And even less impressive when you think about it for 5 seconds more than that.” He says with an eye roll. “But with those jobs you likely know how to seat customers, go to the counter and get them to the appropriate table.” He continues. I was about to say something but he interrupted me- “Keep in mind how many people we are dining, you don’t want a large group crowding a private area.” He reminded me.
I sighed. This is gonna be a long day aint it..? The bell rang, oh a costumer! I quickly went to them to seat them. “Hello welcome to La Guele De Saturne! How many of there are you?” I ask politely with a smile “Table for 2.” The costumer responded. “Right this way!” I say leading them to a 2 seater.
“Good job. They’ll take a moment to see what we’re serving today.” My boss, I believe his name is Vincent- Vincent said. “Once they’re ready they’ll put their menus down and you’ll go to check in on them.” He continued. I thought for a second. “ What we’re severing today ..?” I echoed. “Yes, patrons don’t pick what to eat, instead we have a strict menu that changes daily.” He responds. He looks at me with a weird look for a second before crossing his arms. “You’d know that if you read the interview…” He says. “I uh, skimmed it..” I say sheepishly.
The costumers were ready to order so I went over to them and got their meal tickets. They both ordered appetizers. I went over to the kitchen window. “Once you have their meal ticket bring it to the market between the window and the door- that’ll send it to the kitchen.” Vincent says. I look for the marker for a split second before finding it. I sent the meal ticket to the kitchen.
“The cooks will start to work on whatever order you have right away but keep in mind they prioritize cooking the dessert, side, meal, and appetizer in that order.” Vincent says. I repeated that pattern under my breath for a second to remember it before giving him a thumbs up. He rolled his eyes. “Don’t pester or distract any of the cooks if it’s taking too long.” Vince warns. I wander if he’ll mind me calling him Vince..
I waited by the window for the order. It came and I quickly grabbed the dish. “Once your order are finished you’ll find it at the window. Pick the order and bring it to the customers.” He reminded me. I put the other meal ticket into the market and delivered the food to the right customer.
Once the other appetizer was done, I brought it to the other customer. “Once they’re with their appetizer they’ll ask for more once you go back over. Don’t keep them waiting long.” Vince says.
I waited till their menus were put down to get their order. They ordered the meal. I put the tickets into the market and got their orders. I waited next to Vince since he was waiting out in the dining area for my training. “Once they’re ready for the bill, go behind the counter to check them out.” He told me. So I’m doing all the work basically.. okay than. “Most customers will ask for a full course of appetizers, sides, meals, and deserts-“ he says. I hum in acknowledgement.
The customer was ready for the bill so I got behind the counter and checked them out. The plates were left on the table.. I wander who’s gonna clean that up! “Once they’re done with their meal, make sure to clean their table, I don’t want guests thinking we leave messes out in the open.” Vince says. Of course I’m cleaning it up..
I grabbed some of the trash to throw away but the trash cab was full so I put it back.. “Are you not able to clean the table? If that’s the case the trash is probably full- Come back to the kitchen to check, the caravans will be to the right back of the door.” He explains. We both go to check.
“Eugh, yeah seems like it is-“ Vince says as he looks at the trash. My face scrunched up in disgust. Vincent closes his eyes and sighs. “If you can’t clean a table then it means nowhere for the scraps to go. Take the trash and bring it out to the alley behind the kitchen to throw it out.” He says. Why me..?
I threw the trash out, cleaned the table, and washed my hands. “I’ll let you take this next customer on your own.” Vince says.
I sat the costumer down and took his order. It was just one customer, a man. Reminds me of a decetective his outfit- that is. I marked the meal ticket and brought him his food. He just got a appetizer. After he finished eating and put his menu down I went back over to see what else he’d order,
“Do you guys sell to go boxes?” He asks. “Nope, we do not!” I say. He goes back to looking at the menu. I went to lean on the wall while I waited. “Good work. Though try to keep tone in mind too.” Vince says. Was he half assed praising my work? “I don’t want customers thinking our service is anything less than professional.” He continues. Never mind he’s just critiquing me. “But I’m not a professional-“ I say. “Exactly.” He interrupted.
The customer put his menu back down. I went to take his order. He ordered a meal! I marked the meal ticket and just as the customer’s meal got out, he left saying the service was too slow! “Ugh, did that one just leave?” Vince says with an annoyed groan. “They were probably expecting fast food level speed anyways, we wouldn’t want them coming here.” He says. I agree with him on that. “The good news is they still have to pay for what meals they did eat- but in the off chance a respectable customer loses their patience and leaves, they likely won’t be leaving any tips and won’t be paying for ang further meals. It’s in your best interest to not let that happen.” Vincent continues. No tips?! What bullshit!
I started cleaning the table up. “But that did leave you with a dead plate- unless another table wants that exact order, you’re stuck with it until you throw it away. A perfectly good meal gone to waste. Bring it back to the trash can.” Vince says. So basically free food! Hell yeah! I won’t have to do takeout!! I finished cleaning the table and took the trash out again.
“Good work- Some other things may come up but for now you seem prepared enough. We’ll be opening in just a moment- you set?” Vincent asks, I nod and start my day of work. “Now that you’re properly trained in you’re ready to actually start working. Here’s our menu for the day.” Vincent says to me before I start work. I look over the menu.
Once I had the menu in mind I was ready to start my shift! I flipped the closed sign on the door to open. I waited for customers to arrive and slowly the did. The first day wasn’t quite busy but not quite slow either. A fair amount of customers was seated and I was trying my best to serve a few.
I was checking out this older male.he has greyish hair, a goute, and some glasses. I was giving him the check so he could get his money ready for the register. Vincent came out of the kitchen, guess he’s supervising my first day to make sure I don’t fuck up.
“Thanks pretty little lady for bein’ an amazing server. I left my number on the check case you wanna give me a call. Names Kurt” The man- er kurt said with a wink.. I felt uncomfortable. He paid me and left. I took the note that has his number and put it with the trash on the table as I cleaned it up.
“What was that all about? You looked quite uncomfortable when checking out that customer.” Vincent says. He stopped me at the kitchen door. “Oh it wasn’t a big deal but he was flirting with me- and well I have a girlfriend named Manon, it just made me uncomfortable.” I explained Awkwardly. He hummed in acknowledgement. He has a weird look on his face.. “Okay. You can get back to work, just wanted to make sure he wasn’t causing any issues.” Vincent says. I nodded and threw away the trash.
Soon enough the establishment was emptied of any customers so I decided to talk to Vincent! I’m bored anyways. “Heyy Vincey! It’s pretty slow out there so I thought to talk to you!” I say as I chatted with him. He looked caught off guard by the nickname.. “If things are feeling slow it’s likely you’ve forgotten about something- Keep the customers needs in mind.” He says. I rolled my eyes and walked back out to the dining area.
Soon enough the day was over, we closed up and I got some leftover Green Onion Rolls! Free food! I biked home. As soon as I got home I changed into comfortable clothes and heated up the food! This was my dinner..
I accidentally burnt the food but either than that it was pretty good! A bit fancy for my taste but perfectly fine other than that!
Meanwhile
Kurt, the guy from the diner was walking out at night. The streets were empty until Kurt was yanked into an alleyway and shoved onto the ground.. a man wielding a knife stood in front of him. “I wasn’t quite happy when I was told you flirted with a waiter from my establishment. Especially since it was a waiter I already favor..” The mysterious figure said coldly.
Last thing Kurt saw was a knife slinging towards him. Now the La Guele De Saturne has extra meat for meals..
…
“I should check up on him..” The figure says to themselves as they stand in the freezer of the La Guele De Saturne. Maybe if Rody was still awake he would’ve been able to see the figure outside the window..
